Hades (from Greek ᾍδης, Hadēs, originally Ἅιδης, Haidēs or Άΐδης, Aidēs, meaning "the unseen") refers both to the ancient Greek underworld, the abode of Hades, and to the god of the underworld. Hades in Homer referred just to the god; the genitive ᾍδου, Haidou, was an elision to denote locality: "the house/dominion of Hades". Eventually, the nominative, too, came to designate the abode of the dead.

In Greek mythology, Hades and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans and claimed rulership over the universe ruling the underworld, air, and sea, respectively; the solid earth, long the province of Gaia, was available to all three concurrently. Because of his association with the underworld, Hades is often interpreted by moderns as the Grim Reaper.

Assignment was to take a cartoon character and turn it into a person, or vice versa. I chose Hades cause of his awesome hair! XD It turned out okay, he still looks stylized BUT I ENJOYED THE ASSIGNMENT. That counts for something..right?

The consort of Hades was Persephone, represented by the Greeks as daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Persephone did not submit to Hades willingly, but was abducted by him while picking flowers with her mother, Demeter. Persephone's mother missed her and casted a curse on the land, causing a great famine. Afterward, Demeter was desperate that she pleaded to Zeus to bring Persephone back from the Underworld. Zeus sent Hermes to do so. However, Hades tricked Persephone into eating pomegranate seeds (though some stories say they fell in love and to ensure her return to him, he gave her the pomegranate seeds). Since she ate six pomegranate seeds, she must remain in the land of the dead for six months and for the other remaining six months, she may live on Mt. Olympus with her family. While she is in the land of the dead, she may not eat anything or else she will have to stay there forever.

Demeter questioned Persephone on her return to light and air:

Thus every year, Hades fights his way to the land of the living with Persephone in his chariot. Famine (autumn and winter) occurs during the months that Persephone is gone since Demeter grieves for her absence. (Wikipedia)

Re-watched Disney's Hercules like after four years, and got a brief inspiration to draw Hades. Tried to mimic the general style of the cartoon. Dunno how it turned out, haven't much drawn this character excluding a few sketches maybe years and years ago. Probably stays as a one-time try anyway.

I painted him and Defteros at the same time, going from one pic to another. What I mean is Defteros misses his gold cloth because I put all my concentration on Hades'friggin'god cloth...

I found it incredible that he was defeated in one episode, the fight was a catastrophy orz

He's the kind of character I appreciate, so....yeah I'm developing a new addiction XD

He's got a big cool dog, he's rich because he lives underground where all the gold and jewels are, he's king of the dead so he gets to hang with everyone cool who has ever died, and once a year his honey Persephone swings by to raid his fridge and gossip about all the stupid drama going on up on Olympus.

I'm not very good at giving names to my artwork. I came up with the concept for the image and after I completed it I had the thought that he looked like he was some underworld guy. So I named the picture Hades but I wasn't trying to illustrate the Greek god of the underworld. So enjoy the picture for what it is.

I was invited to participate in the Copenhagen Denmark Sand Sculpture Festival this May. The theme of the event was the History of the World, and I was given Ancient Greece to be artistic with.
I decided to recreate some Greek Mythology. The Titan Cronus had 3 sons who divided the realms of the earth between them. Poseidon took the seas and oceans, Zeus claimed the Sky as his domain, and Hades ruled the underworld. Mount Olympus overlooks from above.

It took 9 days to complete the whole sculpture. The sculpture stands 14 feet tall.

This side depicts Hades on his throne surrounded by fire.

Hades the lord of the Underworld most exactly Helheim, the land of the dead. He's one of the three major Gods that rule the three aspects of time, Past, Present and Future, in my novels.

In older Greek myths, Hades is the misty and gloomy abode of the dead, where all mortals go. In later Greek philosophy appeared the idea that all mortals are judged after death and are either rewarded or cursed.

Aaaahh, couldn't sleep last night.
So, I'm doing this little 'just because I can' side project that involves me drawing Hades as various mythological creatures..
I mean, he's a god, he can turn into anything he wants.
....aaand yeah.

ANYWAY, here's his Sea Dragon! WOOOO. The little orbs on him are like the angler fish orbs? And they go down the length of the entire body and glow brightly, especially when he's chargin' his lazer (shoots bolts of electricity from the mouth), and then FIRIN' HIS LAZER.

The three-headed dog behind him es Cerberus, the guardian dog of the Hades, and the woman is Persephone, the daughter of her sister Demeter raped by him and obligued to stay all autumns and winters with him because she ate the pomegranate. The river with the black things is the Acheron where Caronte, the boatman, brings the souls to Hades where his three judges decides to which place the soul may go.

hes got a 5ft tail- also a result of self experimentation...his tail is rather strong ..it can support 10 times his own body weight...best steer clear of it or youll get hurt!
