My brain pulled a 'YOU MUST DRAW THIS IMAGE NOW OR THE WORLD WILL END' moment today.

It was Namor listening to an iPod, and giving it a look of 'WTH?'

I can only imagine he got subjected to country music unexpectedly.

At least it's not the usual poses of hand on hips/ arms crossed/sulking/swimming really fast overhead. > INSTEAD, you get sneering in disgusted befuddlement Namor.

Back when I first started work on Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Roger asked me what characters I'd like to draw. He had already planned to include so many great characters, all I could come up with was Namor. Specifically, Namor being a jerk. His scape has cause too much trouble in the underwater reign.

Even the king himself has decided to capture him because the real motivation of Namor is not to capture elektro again, the real reason is to return to atlantis what the villain took with him a enchanted sphere that contains the terrible power of what people of atlantis called "the black demon"

Namor- half-human, half Atlantean, arrogant superhuman hothead, and king of Atlantis.

I got inspired by his outfit in one of the new Fantastic Four issues (seen here in 's gallery- [link]), made a few tweaks, and this is what came out.

EDIT: Since people expressed interest, YES YOU CAN COLOR IT. Just be sure to credit me and link back here if you post the resulting color job.

Hand drawn, pencils only. Colored in Photoshop 'comic book' style. Kinda messy but I wanted to finish it asap to move on to other things.

I just got through some more of the Silver age comics, and hit the one where Dorma's killed by Llyra (fffffffff). Dorma was an awesome, subtle character that countered Namor's anger very well.

And there was some show about deep sea stuff on the NatGeo channel at the time, so I was inspired to draw this sorta quick. I think this took 2 hours.

You can color it if you want, just be sure to link credit me for the lineart is all I ask.

I need to stop goofing off and finish actual work (which never ends anymore T_T)

The Atlantian prince breaches the surface to tell us precisely what he thinks of the fishing industry.

Done entirely with a borrowed 0.5mm mechanical pencil. Much thicker and darker line than I'm used to but it works fine for a simple sketch. Plus, I'm going through a small crisis, as I'm running out of 0.3mm lead and I don't know where in Vegas to get some .

Also, as I type this, I realize that Namor's hair should be tilted the other way...ummm...so...I'll just chalk it up to some Atlantian hair gel. Something with seaweed extract, to be sure. Yeah, that's it.

Here's another recent interior from comics I did - featuring the Origin of Namor from ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS: X-MEN,
which went on sale September 1.

This is the inked version of the art and inked Rachel Dodson with Windsor Newton #2 Sable Brush and FW Acrylic Ink on 11 x 17" Marvel Comic Board. I inked the little figures with Pitt and Copic pens.

"Namor and Me"
This piece was done for CBR's "The Line Is Drawn," where a list of artists (including myself) had to choose from twitter feed responses and then create cover homages. Mine was this one.

This is a cover homage to Betty and Me #16, which featured an unintentional double entendre from Archie to Betty, when asked if he had any trouble rescuing her: "I sure did, Betty, I had to BEAT OFF three other guys!" My version has the amorous Namor whisking the Invisible Girl away from her Fantastic Four teammates. And then taking the innocent double entendres to ridiculous new extremes. Yeah, I've watched a LOT of "Three's Company" episodes.

I've pretty fast, so I honestly think, (depending on the title) I could easily bang out a page of pencils a day for Marvel.

I've gained a lot of confidence and I think it's possible.

Namor is one of my fav characters ever. I love his new costume, but I think he should still have barefeet. I mean how does he squeeze those little wings thru the pin holes on his ankles.. thats just dumb.

I think his toes being exposed would help him swim faster and hes like damn near inpenetrable, its not like hes gonna stub his toes or something.....

Maybe most artists cant draw toes? I neglected to do so on here, but I love toes/hands. They have their own set of anatomy and they add character to a character.

It's colored ala Adi "the god" Granov style mixed with Tasuyuki Tanaka (Cannabis Works) using multiply/ overlay layers like granov, and making the pencil layer more of a Cyan hint like Tanaka. I'm still getting the hang of it but the more I play with it the easier it gets. I'm sure if they like this style, there are plently of people who could handle it. Once I get this sample down, I'll post the hires up for download and those whom may want to take a stab at it surely can

Okay, I have thought of designing a Namor poster for a while, and I tried it before, not liking the results. Today I started from scratch with the subject, and this is what came out of it.

I liked the photo of Adrien Brody in Predators so I chose that to be my starting point. I think in the photo he has the over-confident and cocky look that would suit Namor. I chose the tagline "Fuck the humans" to represent Namor's attitude towards mankind.

It could be that in the poster Namor is in World War II with the Invaders and that is why he is so messy, he's been fighting on land for a long time. I thought of that also when I decided to give him dog tags. He has two ornaments with him: the dog tags and the Atlantean bracelets. (At least I think they are, I can't imagine them not being Atlantean.) These represent the two sides of Namor: human and Atlantean.

So, favourite the work if you like it and please comment with your thoughts on the work!

Oh, you poor, bitter King of Atlantis. Always with the world domination.

So, this was something new for me. Well, not entirely, but a different approach. I saw this piece in 's gallery and thought it would be a lot of fun to color. And, as my gallery can attest, I was a bit lost on how to go about coloring it, since I've acquired a few different techniques. Then, I came across a painting tutorial by and the proverbial "Aha!" moment came to me.

I thought it was fitting since, about 5 years ago, it was Julie's tutorial on cel shading that got me interested in digital art in the first place. I remember the first piece I colored, an image of The Joker by Casey Jones (I might still have it...)

Okay, enough reminiscing, on to the matter at hand: the myriad of shit wrong with this piece. Yeah, I know it's there, and I never liked it when people belittled their own work, so I'll just say, it was something new that I'm working the kinks out of. And to that end, please be gentle

Namor is one of the few characters that I prefer with the new outfit (because it has trousers and a shirt!).
He is one of the "grey" characters in my opinion, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but much better than Aquaman! He can fly! LOL
