Did a fun 24hr poll yesterday on which one I should do a "Cute Version" of: Predator, Alien or Pinhead.

Honestly when I was posting the poll I was thinking I would love to do a little baby Predator with big round eyes or a Pinhead as a cute 3d anime-ish version but the crowd has spoken and "Alien" won it by a landslide.

But once I started painting little baby Alien, I really enjoyed it! So thanks everyone that participated!

Drew this with pastels, and it didn't look very good when I finished, The pastels saturated the velour paper and it just looked like crap, I salvaged what I could in Photoshop. Anyway this is Giger's Alien, I will have to do a another one at some point. I always thought this was the creepiest movie character. I do not think I would want to have one of HR Giger's nightmare's.

Just a quick sketch for today, done at a sketch group at work in the evening then splotched some quick photoshop over it

Surprisingly never really drawn many Aliens, even though they're super friggin' cool, so some of the details are a bit off but hey!.

Paint brush. No Airbrush was used.

Yeah, this painting is 17 years old. It's an exercise that I did for an art class when I was in the University studding graphic design.

I didn't used the airbrush at all, in those days I was reluctant an afraid to use it, also the price of an airbrush and a compressor was too high for me in those days. So I did it using only paint brush and 3 colors: Phthalocyanine Blue, White and Red.

In the beginning, I tried to do it with oils but after 5 minutes of using them I throw them away, they are really hard to control and dry too slowly. So I switched to Acrylics and I fell in love of them. But it was hard, this is the first painting that I did with acrylics and the blending was hard to achieve, specially in the flesh and the girl's face. It took me several days to finished. But I was happy with the final result. However I realized it would be really hard to paint like this, specially when I wanted to paint like Alberto Vargas. So I decided to learn airbrushing as soon as I had a chance.

But, in those early years, in every artist, is when you are really creative. Trying and willing to learn and experiment with a naive high spirit. With pure power. I wish I have half of all that now, after all this years. Now. I don't really give a fuck. All that I want is to pay the bills, art is in a second plane now.

I was a young wanna be artist in those days. To be an International Pin-up Artist wasn't in my plans at all, not even in my wildest dreams. All that I wanted is to finished the school, have a job, a car and a family...

Anyway...This painting was my Ace of Spades in those days, after that I finished my school, I was looking for a job. In those days I was knocking the doors of every publicity agency in Mexico City, with my originals in hand, there was no computers or cd's then, LOL . In fact, I got my first job in Playboy Mexico after that I showed this painting. In every place that I showed it, I got the job.

I was a freelancer, a bounty hunter. Doing the job with minimal questions and delivered. Cashing lots of money. Like Boba Fett. They offered me good positions in many places, like as Art Director in places like McCann Erickson. But I stayed as freelancer, I worked at my own will, refused to do 9 to 5...I miss those days.

Before I moved to America, I gave this painting to my favorite uncle as a BD gift.

This painting was intended to be a tribute to Simon Bisley and HR Giger.

Simon Bisley is one of my favorites and coolest artist, he is a B.M.F. . I saw him at Comic Con once.

Giger, as Sorayama, is one of my biggest influences. You can't call them "Artist", that's a short word for them, is a mortal word that doesn't apply to them.

In 1978, Giger was commissioned to be the art director of a movie, Alien. They asked him to came out with a Monster for the movie. The legend tells that, after several sketches, he was frustrated with the concepts, with a lot of stress. Then one night, the devil appeared in his dreams, it had no eyes. Soon after, he delivered the best Sci-Fi Monster ever. He won an Oscar for it.

What I like from Giger is the fact that some people is afraid of his art, some said he sealed a pact with the Devil. I love his art .

The Alien is my favorite Monster.

I signed 1978 as a tribute to it and all of them.

By far one of my fav sci-fi movies of all time. Ridley Scott's ALIEN still inspires me as well as James Cameron's ALIENS! There should have only been those two films, the other ones just got in the way, not to mention the vs movies that totally bombed.

Muchos de mis diseños tienen influencia de esta magnifica creacion de Giger,
Sé que muchos lo asocian a depredador, por la pelicula y los comics, pero durante muchos años esta criatura estuvo sola como gran exponente en la escena del diseño de terror scifi,
La solidez del concepto biomecanico fue algo que nos hizo alucinar por mucho tiempo, la forma en que los huesos, costillas o tubos tenian una direccion casi aerodinamica que hacia enfasis en las poses de una criatura al acecho... uf... te indicaba que hay mucho mas alla de lo evidente al momento de diseñar un monstruo.
Nada va ¨uesto¨asi porque si... por cierto.
Han visto esas graficas donde prueban la resistencia al aire de autos y jets, ya saben , esas camaras con ventiladores y gases que dejan ver la direccion de el viento en el diseño x de uno de estos aparatos.
Pues el cuerpo humano esta cubierto de bellos que seguirian estas direcciones ,(si llegasen a meternos en unas de esas camaras XD), dicen que por alguna herencia genetica de nuestros antepasados nadadores,,,
Asi es jaja, avanzaban horizontalmente muy rapido y por eso quedamos ¨einados¨de esa forma forever.
viendo solo el aspecto del diseño (ejem), que notable es la veta de direcciones e inspiracion que ofrece la realidad para convertirla en ficcion....

I've finished this damned illustration.
It was in a dark folder into the hard disk of my PC for a year and a half or so. I don´t remember that was here until 2 weeks ago, and then the alien jump to me screamin' "FINISH ME!".
I was frightened by it, so I draw fast and now I can sleep again.

Really, it was a 3 or 4 weeks of REAL hard work, half of them working with my 11 months daugther on my legs, as I'm doing for last 3 weeks XD.
