A dragon of the Kaldur Bloodline, patiently waiting and not at all bothered by the cold.

The Kaldur are not a strong Bloodline. Their kind emerged only recently (by dragon timelines!) and many ancient dragons consider them to be a prime example of the strange degeneration that is affecting dragonkind (the species seems to be in decline, with fewer hatching and those that do seem unable to reach the heights of power that dragons once did). Flightless, stunted in growth and lacking any magic ability beyond their icy breath and very low level wind element techniques, other dragons look at them as a joke at best, an abberration of the species to be killed on sight at worst.

Though they could never be described as being particularly highbrow, Kaldur are not stupid. They understood their plight and this has led them to live in well structured social groups, all looking out for one another and are very placid amongst their own, well able to get along without any infighting. To other species however they are dangerous, efficient predators. Strangely they do not reciprocate the disdain offered them by other dragons and though they have learned to fear the other more powerful bloodlines they also look up to them, almost venerating them in an odd, Stokholm-Syndrome kind of way.

With the rise of humanity and their conquest of even the Kaldur's freezing, inhospitable territories across the World's Spine mountains forming the kingdom of Tenra, the dragons came to an unusual decision. Instead of fighting a battle they realised would never end against such a fast breeding and adaptable species, the Kaldur instead came to the humans and offered their friendship. Over the countless generations since the bargain was made this has proved a profitable venture for both the Tenrans and the Kaldur, though this has earned them ever greater animosity from the vast majority of their kindred.

He's a senior lecturer and Steri's a postdoc so it started to go over my head a bit (I'm only a little graduate ) so I got drawing after sitting and looking polite for what seemed long enough This took about 2.5 hours, which is pretty quick for me!

after watching Whit brachna's snow painting video, i decided to test my techniques with the newly acquired brush set. it's a much more opaque oil color-ish set, works beautifully with the traditional painterly style. I haven't completely sat through MrB's video yet, but i plan to do that at least once at some point, he talks about a lot of great tips on painting.

You can get his video from ConceptArt.org, downloadable content comes with the brushes. great values if you ask me.

Hunt for the dragon. Actuary for this one [link] to be exact. That place as all good fantasy place is srounded by huge mountains. Imagine that this is a high mountain top, and shes just reached it top and looks down to a jungle place. Why are dead and ice around??? Water + cold = ice. Yeah the old dragon as all good dragon used to crush some army's with his powers, back at the good old days. And that what left behind. Better than just sing which say be aware of dragon. Who would like to climb a mountain which is freezing cold and full of dead? Well she's cold enough to do so.

Toke for a while to finish, I had so many plans with it, and only a few came to be done. Hope ya guys like.

This is the second digital painting I've ever done in my life and a first attempt to paint something semi-realistic mixed with manga style.
I had so much fun painting this...made me think of Storm Peaks or Icecrown... and it gave me a lot of priceless experience This is my oc Nimfie somewhere in the Valley of Stars..or perhaps in some sort of abyss...who knows, Celenthia is endless... : )

Done for the EOW round 100, interpreting settings from 'the Neverending Story' by Michael Ende.
For upload here, I actually took out the figures and the building structure on the mountain because it killed the feeling of scale.

I think something is still throwing off the scale relations (guess it's the variation of levels of detail)
I am also still not sure about color palette (was tweaking around quite a bit which I usually don't do)

Sorry for not answering comments at the moment, I kinda feel stressed out or... eh, socially detached... (wha?!) but I always read all of them curiously!

I've just returned (rather early) from Canada's mountain paradise of British Columbia. This western-most province of my country is without a doubt one the most scenic havens of pristine nature on the planet.

My firefighting duties complete, I was blessed with a few days of off-trail hiking both on my own and with fellow firefighters. I hiked to the top of a large mountain and along several miles of a crystal clear mountain glacial stream known as the Kuskanax River near Nakusp, B.C. in the southern interior. The icey-cold river wound through cliff-gorges and towering Douglas Fir and Western Cedar forest. Several types of wildflowers grew in clusters from it's rocky banks.

I painted this after reading about Anchorites. Anchorites are worshippers who would entomb themselves in a section of a church as a sign of their devotion. They would be ritualistically interred as if they had died.

I mixed these ideas with the idea of a mountain being a sacred place - and of the anchorite being truly dead.

This is my very first attempt at using Vue 6. Actually it is my first experience with Vue at all. I was trying to avoid the stereotypical snowy mountain scene that lots of other Vue users do in their first try but I did so anyway because it was a not too challenging first task and even though the program and those who use it are capable of producing far better stuff, I still consider it good for a first try.

I had to render this twice! The first time took 7 hours and stupid me accidentally deleted the first render. But this one was better because there is an even amount of light and shadow ( first had only the lit side facing the camera ) But for some reason the second render took 17 hours even with lower render quality ! I think it was because the preview screen didn’t have a chance to catch up. Oh well, I hope it was worth it.

We met him while scavenging off one of his kills. We were starving… not that we had ever been good hunters, but this winter was particularly hard. We couldn’t find anything to eat, we couldn’t catch anything… his kill was all we had eaten that week… so we followed him. He wasn’t happy at first, and tried to chase us off a couple of times, but we couldn’t give in, and in the end I think he just accepted it. It was so cold no one wanted to argue, and I’m sure at least, he was grateful for the extra body warmth. So that’s how it was, I’m not sure how long for, he walked on and we followed. I didn’t know his name then; he rarely spoke to us so we didn’t speak either. It was cold, and silent, and lonely, but we were alive and he was our lifeline.

He was a stranger there like we were, he must have been because he had no territory or place to sleep. Aik thought he was looking for someone, but whatever it was, and wherever he was going… we followed. On that particular day we were walking across a mountain plain, a blizzard had sprung up from nowhere, yet he refused to stop. It was hard to see anything; everything was completely white except for the vaguest of shapes. We were struggling to keep up with him then, but we couldn’t stop and were frightened we’d lose him completely. So we kept shouting at each other to keep going, to not give up and to move faster. We were so concerned with that that we didn’t see the crevasse in front of use. The snow had almost completely covered it over but Aik must have stepped on it because the snow gave way and she disappeared instantly. It all happened so quickly I didn’t know what had happened. I ran to the hole, screaming her name, almost falling in, in the process. It was so dark in there that, for an instant, I couldn’t see her at all. Then I did, somehow she must have grabbed one of the roots hanging down as she fell, because she was dangling there. She looked up at me, her eyes filled with fear, and I realised she ok. Luckily, the root she had grabbed hung down from the tree near me and I could just about reach it. Gripping it gently in my teeth, I pulled with all my strength, trying to pull her up.. but I couldn’t. I tried again and again, but I just wasn’t strong enough, there was nothing I could do. Finally I let go, exhausted, I didn’t look down, I couldn’t. I could still see her eyes pleading with me though. I knew she must be having the same thought I was. That sooner or later Aik would lose her grip and fall… and there was nothing I could do to save her. I looked away; I couldn’t see her face again, knowing that it would be the last time. The snow was beginning to clear a bit now, I could see more shapes then I could before, one of them was moving. I wasn’t the only one here! of course I wasn’t! …and he would surely be strong enough. I looked down at Aik again, as realisation dawned.

“I’m coming back.” I said to her and ran off towards the figure.

He hadn’t appeared have noticed we had gone and, when I caught up again, he didn’t look around to look at me. I stopped for a second, nervous, unsure... He had never made us feel welcome after all; would he really care enough to help? They were strangers after all, why would their problems concern him?

(I’m still spazing over the last one I won! <3 [link]) No, I entered because Sabby always choices the best themes for her contests and I love drawing her characters… and this one even gave me an idea of how Blade would get to met them. I’ve wanted to do that for a very long time…

I had a lot of fun on this, I tried to make it look a little like screenshots from a film, not sure it’s worked entirely... and there are a few silly mistakes... but I don’t mind. Maybe I'll fix them later...
Yes the boxes aren’t evenly spaced, it looks better like this, trust me.

Hmm… I wonder how Coronia will get Blade to help… of course I have some ideas, but I’m not saying.

There is only one real time where an artist has improved, and that is when they themselves KNOW that they have improved. I believe i can say that i have improved

This was originally just a terragen render that i was gonna leave alone, i liked the depth and atmosphere i created, and following hearing the song by immortal, i even had a title for it... but following my collab with garcia, i took it and moulded it into something a bit more solid. I haven't been doing anything explosive for a while, so i set the stage for another explosive event.

So i've looked into more detail this time, nebula technique is improving, behind the meteor i've added bits falling off for some added realism, planets are getting a lot better lately, and i'm generally pleased with the improvements i'm making all round

7hours work so just a quickie by my time-length creations.

Well.. I'd just got my camera and I HAD to try it. But outside it was -30 C..! Yes, it was very cold. But when it's very cold the trees and the snow and everything are very beautiful. So I had no choice. I put on all my warm clothes, and went outside. Brrrr!
I took a lot of pics, and here's one of them..

Blizzard clouds blowing over frozen lonely mountains. I was tempted to use the new cloud modulation feature for the clouds but felt that a customized metacloud would make for a more dramatic look. Made from an Advanced Perlin Node in World Machine with the style set to billowy and the steepness pumped way up then ran it through an erosion node.

i'm really not happy with this one, but it's been three thousand years since it was commissioned. i finished with what i had and it just didn't turn out how i wanted it to. just couldn't use the stock i wanted (AlaskaStock why did you leave me???) and it was a pain to put together. lovely character, but i guess i just didn't have it in me this time around.

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: snow leopard (Uncia uncia or Panthera uncia)
Location: Hight mountains of Central Asia (Hindukush, Himalaya...)
Size: 1.3 m long body, 1,3 m long tail weight: 54 kg
Diet: Siberian ibex, argali, wild goats and wild sheep, deer, boars, langur monkeys, marmots, similar small mammals and birds
Conservation status: Endangered (there are 4000 – 6600 snow leopards)
Interesting facts: snow leopards are considered to be big cats, althought they are quite small than other big cats | snow leopards are not able to roar | other name for snow leopard is ,,irbis“ | snow leopards use their long and very fluffy tail as a scarf to hide their neck and head in cold weather. Fluffy tail is also good for balance | they have small ears to eliminate loss of body heat | snow leopards have blue or yellow eyes.
