_{Yup, my pretty girl was born on February 18th 6 years ago and it's something that must be celebrated. As for the photo itself, it was taken on one of those days when it rains and the sky clears just before sunset, so that the sun rays hit the wet tree branches and the water drops create this magical bokeh light. (Layla was sitting on a windowsill)

Photo taken with Manual settings - the shallow DOF and bokeh effect are lens-made, no texture applied.

Like my ever so creative title? I had no idea what to call this, so I ended up going to the height of originality. OTL

I threw this into Photoshop last night and it kind of snowballed from there. Started out with me cropping it, then doing a bit of colour correction, added the text, then decided "hey, why not add some bokeh?" XD I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for having gotten better at adding bokeh to things.

Full body shots of my re-vamped Touko from the home studio shoot to come, in the meantime, enjoy this little Photoshop adventure.

A Holly Jolly Jikan

They are:

for their FANTASTIC and very hard work they do for the Group! It is truly an awesome Team, and it is most rewarding to work with them!

They are each friends, too, and have been so supportive in various ways, as well, and this very much appreciated and I want to wish them all very well throughout the Holidays and into The New Year...

This is Jikan, [who has a long time] but whose first name means "Time" in Japanese, because it was apparently "Time for me to have a cat."
HE is the CAT who STARTED it ALL.

This is an effort to do 2 things:

This will round out a much nicer collection of Holiday Pet images to be available for Holiday Animal Greeting Cards for NEXT Year...
as I had NO idea I would get what orders I DID get, this year, and I felt unprepared with the images I had, both in the area of holiday animals and regular holiday images to be honest!
[even if it was nice, that the images I had were wanted anyway... ]

And in a GREATER effort to help support The South Coast Humane Society through The Shelter Project by having a nicer variety in general.

Jikan picked me, July of 2007, when he was about a 7 month old stray kitten. He chose to live on my doorstep, though I wasn't feeding him and didn't know too much about cats, except that other people's cats always seemed to like me all my life.

Eventually, as it was Summer, we got him and my then TWO female dogs used to each other through the security door, and one day we just brought him in, and the rest is a jam-packed action-adventure history, having to do with everything about cats, for certain!

I love him immensely as he is my first cat, and we do have a very unique bond as we understand each other in many ways. He is a deep, complex, intelligent, moody boy, and loves to be near me always, but not right on me like Herbie: [link], Philippe: [link] and even our brand newest boy Jack, who does have a dA photo, too, but not his Holiday one, yet!

Jikan had a lot of health problems at first, mostly stomach, but later developed urinary tract crystals, which must be watched and maintained now the rest of his life. He has to be on special food.

Jikan's best friend is still Sha-Sha, the 2nd cat we got, who is orange and one-eyed, and those who have followed me the longest on dA, know Sha-Sha and her photos, and she'll have her Holiday Photo debut in my next round of uploads.

More of Jikan, who will be five this January 2012.

This was from our first shoot (which was this afternoon)! I met Mal at the mall, as she was on her break & I was on my way to find some place with coffee. Tiffany (my roommate) was with me, and spotted Mal's Audrey Hepburn tattoo & just had to speak to Mal. I'm so glad that she did, because it landed me a new & drop dead gorgeous model!

This shoot produced a lot of laughs & a ton of side jokes. We also had a whole bunch of onlookers too. Which was understandable, after all Mal was climbing chain-link fences & trees in high heeled black boots & leather pants...I mean, that doesn't draw attention or anything!

I loved working with her! We have another (top-secret) shoot set for the 22nd & it will be fierce!

My Kind of Alchemy (And The Circles Returned)

`I hope you like it. Thank you for the views, faves, and comments. Here's the original Circles... Please read. . . A Small Food For Thought on Macro Photography:`


I don't usually share my thoughts enough on macro photography, especially water droplet macros, gravity water drops, and any other type of micro objects that fall into this category of photography. Macro photography is not easy at all, some photographers might make it look extremely easy to shoot, Hahaha- well it's not.
Think about it like this for example, if a male or female model gets tired of posing they can take a break and recoup for a bit, but a water droplet just breaks, dissolves, and evaporates. I'm sure a lot of professional model photographers are happy they don't have this issue to deal with during a photo shoot.
Now what is it about macro that's challenging? I think mostly it's the scale of the subject/object. Everything that a photographer normally has to account for when shooting on a larger scale, except that, the smaller the scale, the harder it is to make these objects look beautiful or interesting (basically worth taking a look at). Sometimes a macro photographer has a good day shooting everything they can think of, but then once the photos are viewed on the computer monitor, the shots get whittled down from one-hundred plus, to one or two, and maybe even three. That's hard to handle. Hours upon hours trying to get that perfect shot. The shot that not only the photographer can't help but gasp at when viewing it, but also that shot the photographer hopes his or her viewers will gasp when they see it too.
I hope any fan or lover of macro photography will keep this little thought tucked away in the back of their mind, so that the next time a macro photographer post a piece of work, (that really was/is a piece of work to shoot), that you'll remember how a macro photographer addict explained how hard all macro photographers work to show you something you may have never seen if not for them.
