Story Under The Sea ~ Flying Fish

The story takes place when God created the fish. At that time, all the fish were still the same and God asked them what kind of fish they want to be.

The first is Shark, he asked God for sharp fangs and to move faster in the sea, so can get his prey easily. God granted granted his wish, but secretly put a big fin on his back, so we will know anytime he approaches.

The next is Whale, he asked for a big body that can make everyone scared of him. God granted his wish 'cause he knows the whale is a soft ans shy fish and needs that body to protect himself from annoyance.

The last is Flying Fish, she wants to have wings that can fly to see the world outside the water. God can't grant her wish but he gave her wings that make her see the outside world, although just for a short time. ^^

Christmas present for my parents. They wanted a fish picture.

Mimiced 's style of inking fish. I really like how she inked her fish, so I tried to follow her style.

but, the God knows that she have arrogant heart, and she like to uderstimate the others..God granted her wish, giving her the most important thing for her, but He also take the most important thing from her, it's her freedom. so, althought she become the most beautiful fish, she don't have a chance to show it to the others, and it's why we can't find him in the sea or lake, we can only find her in the pond or aquarium..^^

I like fish, I have two of my own (in a pond in my family's garden).

I bought a new fish last week (old one didn't survive the winter unfortunately ) and I got the urge to draw a fish. So here it is. Based on a skecth that floated around in the depths of my desk.

EDIT I love this little picture and I know a lot of you like it as well, but I just had to change the colours.
I didn't really feel like they fit that well, with the drawing and the rest of my gallery.

a doodle drawn quite a while back when i first got my fish, and i got so paranoid every morning thinking my fish might die...-.-

I'm overcoming this "my-fish-might-die" crisis now...(although recently my fish seem to have lost balance, it's tail keeps tipping...is there something wrong?!)

One of my earlier sculptures...I get a lot of people at the art shows that comment on how they can relate to this piece...i.e. the front fish is me and the back fish is life, or the front fish is me and the back fish is my boss etc. etc...blah blah blah

8/17- Wow, what a shock to wake this morning and see the much apprediated DD and all your responses. I apologize for the boring explanations...Just a few more details on Go Fish so I don't get carpal tunnel from trying to respond to everyone. The piece is bronze and colored with flourescent acrylics and lacquer dyes. The first year that I had it at a show in Sausalito, CA a person came up and said that his buddy Andrew Stanton was working on a film that would be out the following year called In Search of Nemo. Not sure if the name had changed or this guy remembered it wrong but the following year Finding Nemo came out. A ton of people ask me "were you inspired by Finding Nemo?" We just smile and say "Sure" because it takes too long to explain it. The cool thing is that we have some very good friends that work for Pixar and we get tours every time we go out. AMAZING place and what a cool bunch of incredibly talented people. thanks again for all of your responses...
also, I sell it now on a black base (my mom's suggestion) and it looks a TON better.

This was made for CGSociety's "Strange Behaviour" Challenge. The story goes: In vertical oriental cities, gas-filled floating fish are commonly used for cargo transport. Being very docile creatures, they normally create no fuss. They glide slowly though the crowded markets, letting themselves be steered by their drivers to their docking stations deep within the city. But then once in a while a fish panics in the narrow passages and tries to get away, shaking off the little people climbing all over it and tearing down wooden bridges and market stands. Such behaviour is considered unacceptable and most strange. This painting depicts one such event.

When I say "moon fish" i didn't mean the puffy one that everyone calls moonfish (btw, why do they call that thing a moonfish anyways? it's so..urgh). i actually mean "moon" fish, lol. (or maybe Clock-moon-fish? It'll get fatter and thinner depending on the "lunar" fazes 8D)

Edit: A lot of people has mentioned or asked why i didn't include a story to this. Well, it's because I think for this picture, the story can tell itself. Everyone will have a different interpretation of it.so no, I don't think I'll post my version of the story. but feel free to come up with your own!

GIDDYUP ~

Another scene from my short film.

Last teaser, I swear xD; I'll post the film up soon, I promise . You guys are going to LOVE the music. My composer was AWESOME and composed in the style of Joe Hisaishi (Miyazaki's composer yo ). I love the music the most, hahaha;;;.

This scene was especially difficult to colour because she was straddling the fish but I needed the fish to be line-less while she had lines. Plus his tail goes in front of her while her legs goes in front of his body.

Some people have been asking me how I'm animating, so here's the response I posted on Tumblr:

I first time out my animation in Digicel Flipbook, exported it as PNG sequence when I finally feel like I have it well timed-out. Then I load it into photoshop for clean-up and colour. Because photoshops timing isnt very good, I then go to Adobe Aftereffects to put the animation together with the backgrounds I have already finished and also tinker with any possible post-production stuff I want to do, such as camera moves or muti-layered pans and any filters I want to put over, like glows and dust-effects, etc.

And thats how I did my film . Its a little tedious, especially compared to if you just used flash, but I wanted to soft-shade my characters, and photoshop was the only program that let me animate in the way I wanted .

one of my underwater world paintings - clown fish concept; while the shapes/anatomy is quite simple yet working with so many colours was a bit tricky ( the more colours you add the harder to keep the overall balance ).

Gold fish are so pretty but so stupid that they make me laugh.
My friend ~AllicynLeiaAllen took some really awesome pictures of her friend's fish and I needed to draw one XD

this was a sketch i did this afternoon based on the phrase "big fish in a small pond"

I just liked the idea of two fish, a big one in a small pond and a small one in a huge bowl.

Sketched in Photoshop. Took me about 3 hours start to finish in one sitting.

oh and dont be too harsh on the bowl. It's the first time I've ever done a glass bowl. Or caustics for that matter.
