Edit: You know, despite this being a rushed doodle... I'd like to hear some real criticism. It's the only way to get better. Even if I'm rushing, I need to be able to get things right in the first place. It shouldn't take me as long as it does to get everything done. Just please no commentary about him simply looking different, as that was obviously the intention. I'm trying to give him a more normal body, without going too far and ruining the charm of his original character. I want him to look sleek and slender, but older and have a longer torso, etc. If you can give any suggestions as to how I could go about doing this better, I would love to hear them! The background is trash, but feel free to point out why! xD

Edit 1: Made background less green and not stand out as much, distracting from the character. This was suggested by *Hydro-King.

Edit 2: Added a lens flare to his sunglasses, as suggested by ~Manicethehedgehog08. Decided to keep it, as it looks great!

Don't ask me where I got the name, because I don't know. I think the bird...humph. So this is another sunset at North Carolina. It was taken as the ocean left some water and as a see gull flew past. I like this one, it's just got something to it. I think the lens flare actually adds to it, for once.

Somebody told me it looked edited, with the blues in the top. But it's not, its straight off the camera.

This one took me ages to make, but I'm pretty pleased with how this came out. I hope the Angel blends in with the background. It looks OK to me, but it's better to hear other people's feedback.

I used GIMP to make this -- took me ages, and I'm still working out how to use it.

EDIT: Clouds: Just remembered where the picture of the clouds came from, which is a relief because it's been bugging me all day. Click here for the picture: [link] . It's by grace-stock [link] . I've turned the picture around, of course, and made it a bit darker, I think, and I added the sunshine! But otherwise it's unchanged.

The sun I made was an effect already on GIMP, called Supernova, for anyone who doesn't know and wants to, and the same with the lens flare.

I still think something's not quite right about this picture, but I can't figure out what. Please contact me if you see something that I can make better.

I'm hoping to make more, similar things in the future, but maybe not for a while. It took me ages to make.

Sorry about the long, long comment, but there were a few things I wanted to say. So, if you're reading this now, which you obviously are, thanks for reading all of this.

Also sorry about the quality. I think I fiddled around with it a bit too much.

Cataclysm

This is a little project I had running over the past two weeks while studying for my pre-final exams. Those exams are over now which resulted in a little more time to do the final touches. I'd say: 70% Vue, 30% Photoshop. Setting up the scene took a little over a week (aka. >7 evenings), rendering for 13 hours or so, and a few days postworking. I didn't start from scratch with setting up the scene, though. The basic setup was the final scene of the Creating Asteroid-Rings-tutorial. From there, I worked on to get this here. Yet, there are a bunch of things changed, as you can see.

Props to `priteeboy for telling me how to rotate the camera around all axes in Vue and, of course, the guys in the SpaceArt channel for giving me some tips. If you haven't done so, please do not hesitate to visit it!
Additional points to *kire1987 for pointing out major flaws in this image so that I could fix them in the update. Thanks, bud!

Edit (9 Apr 2010): Some little tweaks here and there. Most importantly, the transition between the rocks at the bottom (which, themselves, have been brightened up subtlely on the left) and the corresponding atmosphere above has been improved. Commission Example

First off, special thanks to Yuppie for halping me with the blushy-blush! I wasn't sure whether it should be fixed or not, but her input o'er Skype last night helped me see how much it stood out. Thanks, yooo! ^/////^

My musical muse for this one.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my commissions lately, regarding how I want them to look. I want them to be put up to a higher standard than the work that is currently found in my gallery,so I decided that it was time to take my artwork a step further and find ways to make the drawings more complete, the ideas clearer and more cohesive, and to have a certain cinematic quality to them... emphasizing the essential aspect of visual prosody! This painting is based on a basic three-light photography setup, using the key light, the fill light, and the rim light.

I roughed this painting out yesterday with the help of some integrated photos from my Canon EOS 60D (to get that nice flare and bokeh effect). When you zoom in, you can tell that it's really rough, but this is the newer standard I'll be setting out for full painting commissions. Expect something like this if you decide to buy art from me I will also be working to improve this particular style so that you'll definitely walk away content with your commission.

About 5 hours on and off? Wayyy too long. There are about 54 layers, I believe, and if you have Photoshop, feel free to treat yourself to my .PSD and see how I work. Warning! It's messy. I don't name my layers sometimes. xD Download my .PSD file!

I used a hard round, pen pressure-controlled opacity brush almost exclusively for this. I used a soft round pressure-opacity brush for the vignetting, and two custom bokeh brushes. The lens flare comes from two stacked exposures from my camera.

Now I can start working on my commissions.

Yay, I'm finally done! The reason the full image is so big is so I could use my drawing as a wallpaper too! You are free to use it as your wallpaper too...^{I would be honored.} I actually started drawing this to celebrate the beginning of summer...but it turned out to celebrate the last days of the season. Recently, I've been trying out a new method for painting nebulae (you can see a few attempts in the latest images of my scrap-folder) and this is the outcome of it. I am pretty happy about the image because it turned out exactly how I imagined it

Fairly quick with something between 5 and 8 hours. Most time went into tweaking the colors because I, once again, painted in black and white

PCP - Colored Lens Flares - 80 points

Two realistic lens flares rendered in Apophysis at 3500 x 2707 pixels. They translate very well into black and white and other colors. Actual files are transparent, making them easy to work with. These two images are being offered for 80 dA points (equal to 1 US$). Details are on the right side of the page.

You may use these for commercial work.
You may use these in works outside of deviantART.

Christmas Wishes Avatar

I've been meaning forever to make mom a new avatar for here, and finally today I got around to it. This is the very beginning of the Christmas version of Wishes, which I recorded on my old Canon Christmas 2006, camera mounted on my tripod.

It is very bright. Not sure if I like all the lens flare or not. Hmmmmmmmm.....

The full-sized .gif is on download. It is free for anyone to use, provided I am 1. properly credited as the maker of the .gif and 2. nothing is added to the piece. Frames may be deleted as seen fit and it may be cropped and/or sized down for use.

There are 64 frames total.

Mom's version is black and white and only 14 frames, with only 19 colors, to get under the 15K rule for dA. We loaded it but as of yet it isn't showing. (They said it could take up to 24 hours to see a new avatar once it's loaded.)
