One of my pieces for The Last Unicorn Art Show! Both the book and the movie were among my favorites growing up, so when I heard about this show I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.

This is definitely one of the most complex and difficult plush projects I've ever done. She has a fleece-wrapped wire skeleton that allows her neck, legs, and tail to be posed, so she's more of a soft sculpture than an actual plush toy. I tried my hardest to make this pony's clothing as close to the real costume as possible. The pony was a white G3 My Little Pony rehaired with Katsilk hair in shades of black and brown and also Mohair in black to create the dreadlocks. The mustache and goatee are made from mohair rooted into the ponies face, no glue involved. The outfit was made from Apoxie Clay and painted to match the real costume. All of the beads in the hair (including the sail needle, coins and silver dangly thing, lol) were handmade from Apoxie Clay and/or beading wire. They are insanely tiny. The bandana is a piece of fabric and is not removable as it has been sewn into the hair so that it will stay in position. All of the painted surfaces were painted in acrylics and sealed. Last but not least, the compass was hand-sculpted from Apoxie Clay, painted and sealed. It's about 1/2" square and has a wire loop on the back so it can be hung around the ponies neck. I have previously created doll repaints of Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner. However, I have always created them at very separate times and have never been physically together as a group. This time, I've decided to create a group of four of the main characters from the movie. Also, the Jack, Will and Elizabeth dolls here are somewhat different from the ones I've created in the past with regards to facial expression hair styling and overall detail. This is the first time I recreate Tia Dalma's likeness in a doll.

As with all my creations, I completely strip the original factory paint on each of the dolls, and completely repaint the facial features in, paying attention to accuracy of likeness and lifelike expressions. They each underwent extensive hair styling as well. The Jack doll features a hand painted tattoo as well as hand crafted authentic hair ornaments. The design on his bandana was also handpainted. Tia Dalma and Jack were both given authentic dreadlocks. It took several weeks to complete this group due to the amount of work involved. ]]>

I think the reason I found this so ungodly fun is because when I was a kid--lo these many moons ago--I loved my My Little Ponies, and used them to act out stories...but probably not the kind that the manufacturers would expect. The minds of children, as Stephen King once wrote, are like deep wells of clear water. And this is true enough, but there are monsters in those wells, and some of 'em have a bunch of eyes and really big teeth. So my stories were all full of blood and torture and death and forced marriages*, sort of Quentin Tarantino meets Marguerite Henry, all acted out via My Little Ponies, and their cohorts, the little scented rubber animals that came with the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. (I had no particular use for the dolls.)

Next to some of those stories, My Leper Pony's probably pretty tame, but it's still nice to return in some small way to that well of childhood creative depravity.

Technical stuff! Leperlot started life as a G3 Love-a-Belle, was painted sickly grey-green, re-tailed with the scurfiest, most diseased looking yarn I could find, and boils were sculpted from polymer clay and painted. Bandages were added with Rigid Wrap (a type of plaster cloth) painted, and sealed with acrylic matte medium. Bits of mane were glued in under the bandages, but I didn't do a full re-root. The "Unclean" sign is made from painted acid-free matboard, and I photoshopped together a parody of the packaging, printed in on matte heavyweight, and taped it in over the original. (Sadly, despite all the tape visible in the photos, there is still less than was on the original package. Hasbro likes their tape.)

This is my first alteration of a My Little Pony, and you don't want to know how much fun I had.

I will probably be e-baying Leperlot at some point in the near future--my journal'll have the details.


EDIT: I'm told by other members of the pony modding community that Hasbro apparently doesn't like box modifications, so wanting to respect their wishes there--after all, they furnished my depraved childhood adventures!--I'm removing the box art, just in case.

The eyes are casted in clear resin to give him a more realistic and lifelike look, and the ears are made of felt and short faux fur.

Total lenght is approximately 38 cm ( 15 inches) long including the tails and 15 cm ( 5,9 inches) tall including the ears. ( the tails are a a bit longer than usual)

As usual I had masses of fun making this guy, the sculpting was fun and PAINTING has become really fun since I bought some decent paints!

I'm really, super happy with the colour scheme, gold and blue was always one of my favourite combinations when I was young and gold and purple always looks so regal.

In 9 hours this piece went from 131 favs and 1200 views to 3,000 favs and 21,800 views.

This dragon sold for $100. I know it is a lot but they take a long time to make and a lot of details go into making him. This one took 3 days to make. If you would like one, in any colors, send me a note please!

And here's my surprise I mentioned last night on my facebook fan page. XD

It took me around an hour or two to make this little guy. XD He's definitely the smallest thing I've ever crocheted in my life so far. :3

It was my personal little challenge to see if I could make insanely small amigurumi, and I'm quite pleased, though taking its picture was tough to do with a camera that just wouldn't cooperate. (It doesn't even have a macro shot option.)

He's sitting on the pad of my left index finger, and I included a picture of what he looked like from the back. :3

I hope you guys enjoy it~
I won't be making too many micro amigurumi, but I may again in the future if I want a challenge. XD

Oops, I forgot to mention that I split crochet thread in two and used a 0.75mm hook. :3

I think it turned out pretty good. You can find this new girl in the Costumed Doll gallery because even though she is nude, her tattoo is her costume. The name of this project is Mermaid Song.

What’s cool about this tattoo is that it’s an actual tattoo; the drawing is engraved into porcelain prior to firing with a fine needle as a real tattoo would be ‘engraved’ into human skin. ]]>

It's fully posable and can be posed in many positions. This is a completely hand made fantasy creature. I hand sculpted the head, tail and feet onto a posable skeleton that I made and wrapped with stuffing. The imitation fur I have hand dyed while maintaining full softness. I haven't really seen much of the games despite how much my bro goes on about them ^^ but we did go see the movie and liked the character in that and thought he'd make a great design for a Pony.

This is Innsmouth the Raven! He's just as curious as most ravens tend to be but perhaps a little more jolly than most! Innsmouth likes to sing weird songs about fish people and tell dirty limericks. He's nearly always laughing at something... a great companion for a person who might be a little sad and needs some joy. Innsmouth loves smoked eels, steamed mussels and pretty much any stinky fishy sea food. He likes to peck small children so get ready for that.
His necklace is made from a carved pine prayer box that unscrews to reveal a mystery item! Also made from brass beads, quartz, wood and stone carved beads.
Innsmouth is 8.25" ( 21cm) tall when standing on his feet.
This is a handmade, one of a kind piece of art. The face and feet are an original sculpt cast in resin that is then hand painted. Each cast piece is sealed with clear coat. The body is a soft, non articulated floppy style stuffed with soft polyfill and plastic pellets in the bottom. Faux fur body with stiff felt wings with hand painted accents. This raven doll stands up well on his own two feet

Every one of my dolls comes with a signed resin monster face medallion tag marking it as one of my one of a kind critters. These dolls are meant to be petted and cuddled a bit but please treat them with care. Wipe the face or paws with a slightly damp cloth to clean any scuffs or dust. They are not rated for young children!

Eyes are two milky/opalite Swarovski rivoli-like square thingys. I've wanted to try and make eyes from rivoli for quite some time, and these looked nice with hematite and metallic blue beads, so I made a lizard. A rather big-eyed one. Oh well.
Legs are an experiment too - I needed thin fingers, so fingers are entirely on wire.

Technique - brick stitch + a bit of peyote.

Mostly cylinder beads (~35grams of them). Miyuki delica, a bit of Toho treasures. Some size 15, 11 and 8 rocailles too - for fingers and decoration.
The lizard is 27 cm long.

Face and paws are casted in resin from an original sculpture and the body is handsewn faux fur filled with sand to give him weight. It haven't any kind of armature inside so it's floppy and feels like a realistic animal when you hold him. He can make some poses but not so complex ones because he isn't armatured.
The ears are made of faux fur too, but they have a wire structure inside so they are rigid and a little posable.
The eyes are also handmade by me of clear resin.

I am very pleased to share my latest creation, Lady Gaga. She is arguably the most popular newer artist to emerge in the music scene. Her fashion sense and image has no doubt influenced and captured the consciousness of the public. I have been thinking of creating her doll for a while now and am happy to finally have it come to fruition.

The doll I used is a 17-inch resin ball jointed Venus Sybarite doll produced by Superdoll. The base doll I used is not a representation of any celebrity or character, but I thought the mold was close enough to create a Lady Gaga repaint.

Full facial repaint, completely precision hand repainted featuring three dimensional repaint/shading/highlighting on eyes, eyebrows, and lips to faithfully transform the doll into the likeness of Lady Gaga, particularly inspired by her looks from "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" music videos.

As I could not find a similar wig to the one that she wears in the "Telephone" music video, I had to hand restyle and hand dye the wig myself.

The inset photo on the bottom shows the mass produced version as originally released.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

Clearly, one of the more interesting characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, Naomie Harris brings color to her portrayal the imprisoned soul, Tia Dalma

This is the first time I recreate Tia Dalma's likeness in a doll. I use a 16-inch Tonner doll for this recreation.

As with all my creations, I completely strip the original factory paint on each of the dolls, and completely repaint the facial features in, paying attention to accuracy of likeness and lifelike expressions. The doll also underwent extensive hair restyling - each dreadlock has been carefully created to match the character's. The inset photo shows the doll before customizaton.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
