I approached this design differently than I usually do, and used my recently-acquired inkscape skills to sketch and layout a circle-river packing for this bad boy. I might try to move the reference point for the hindlegs further back, but otherwise I am fairly satisfied with the outcome.
I am not usually too fond of circle packing, because getting the references for the design can be really painful, but I don't think it is the case here. most of the references are based on fifths and repeated angle bisectors.
Diagonal symetry,
22 cm square of thin paper, 19 cm long model. - the model:square ratio is pretty decent, roughly 6/7th or 0.85

none of these three versions actually looks like the real animal, its limbs were almost negligible, as can be seen here:
