Makeup: Jessie Pridemore and Jeff Smith

I've had this blue beehive wig ever since last year, and I thought instead of letting it go to waste, why not use it for a fun costume? Paired up with a gift of green silk dupioni from one of my clients, the answer to my costume dilemma was obvious: Sexy Marge Simpson!

Marge's regular outfit isn't terribly exciting, and if she was going to attend Dragon*Con at night, without Homer by her side, why not glam things up a bit?

The corset dress has a green silk dupioni exterior, coutil interior, and a loose cotton lining. All of the binding is hand cut and finished. You can't see it here, but there is a 2" gap at the back with a modesty panel, antique gold two part grommets, and bold red lacing (to match my necklace and shoes of course). I was a bit short on time so I used some (slightly short) flat steels I had laying around, but I hope to replace them with longer spiral ones in the future.

A lot of people ask me how I did the wig. It was very little effort, actually! The wig is from a company called Lacey Wigs. It arrives flat. The beehive part is hollow. I poofed out the beehive, stuffed some plastic bags inside for body, combed out the bangs, and voila! Instant Marge wig!

The necklace was made out of wooden beads (from Jo-Ann's) that I spray painted red and put on an elastic band.

The bodypaint was quite an adventure. I had planned to use Paradise AQ Yellow, but the coverage wasn't quite what I needed in the time I had to get ready. I noticed the yellow Mehron Creamstick foundation I used on my face covered pretty nicely, and applying it was going to be faster than the PAQ. So, my friends Jessie and Jeff were awesome enough to help me. The color still looked a bit uneven and shiny, so Jessie in a stroke of genius, grabbed some loose yellow Ben Nye eyeshadow I had and set the foundation with it. The difference was like night and day. The eyeshadow had a slight shimmer to it, so it caught the light really nicely in photos.

Jessie also suggested brown blush, which I was a bit skeptical of at first, but I trusted her and went with it. She also put a vibrant blue on my eyelids, which turned out a bit green because of the yellow base. I added a white hi-lite to my brow bone, some eyeliner, lashes, a neutral lipstick, then I was out the door!

I'm super thrilled with how the makeup turned out. But, next time, I'm definitely going to opt for an airbrush and some alcohol based yellow paint. ]]> Photo: Bryan Humphrey

A customer came to me with a tiny pixellated thumb pic she had found on the internet. It had Homer lying down on top of the donut and beer cans everywhere, and a few little patch of white on the board to represent clouds.

I don't like making cakes already done by someone else, but said, okay,........................as long as I could make it my own!

I couldn't stop thinking of the episode where he asks the devil Flanders for a donut and if he eats it, the devil owns his soul. One sleepy night he wanders to the fridge and says (gurgle) Mmmmm Forbidden Donut................and eats it!

This is Homer just about to polish off the forbidden donut!

(Just had to pop a can of Duff in his hnd)

Couldn't see much on the original pic, so don't know much of wht they used, but I made it like this:

Basic Instructions

* 10" round chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream.
* Create a dent in the centre and a shallow chunk out of the side (didn't want to take away much cake)
* Cover in cream coloured sugarpaste (rolled fondant) and texture the cut out chunk with a bunch of cocktail sticks in your hands.
* Pin out some pink coloured sugarpaste, cut out an 11" circle, but wobbly!
* Cut a wobbly circle out of the middle
* Wet the cake where the pink will go
* Lay the pink on the cake in place and smooth the edges to round them
* Colour royal icing to five different colours and using a no. 2 piping nozzle, pip the blobby lines for the sprinkles.
* The board was covered later with a strip of blue sugarpaste wrapped round the cake onto the board, and blended at the join
* The clouds were made using a plaque cutter and white sugarpaste
* Pipe a few sprinkles onto the finished board too
* Homer is a pear drop shape of white sugarpaste with some Gum Tragacanth added for strength, create a hole in the top for his neck to go
* The head was coloured with yellow paste colouring. Just follow a picture of homer to get the features right.
* His muzzle was added on to the face (I flattened the face where it was going to go) and the glack lining added first with sugarpaste, then the tongue, then a strip of white paste indented for the teeth.
* The hair is black sugarpaste rolled as thin as you possibly can. For the top of the head, use a pin to make holes, roll the end of the "hairs" to a point and insert into the pin holes to hold in place
* Remember to do the "m" above the ear and emboss the ear so that you can see the "g".
* The duff can is a little solid cylinder of red sugarpaste, put two circles of grey on top and bottom (push a hole into the top one for the ring pull)
* Cut out a tiny white label and write "Duff" on it, and beer on the can itself with a black food colouring pen, or paint it with food colouring. Cut a tiny wide triangle of paler grey for the shape above the label and use your left over pinky red royal icing the pipe the dot.
* Finishing touches, I used some piping gel to create saliva and some beer overspilling

So I painted a coat, did some school work while it dried and hen painted another coat....I did this for about 3 -4 coats lol.

The dress is made out of green dupioni silk, a coutil foundation, and a silly cat print cotton lining. The Marge wig is from Lacey Wigs - it looks like that right out of the bag! I just combed it out a little and stuffed some plastic bags inside to help it keep shape. The necklace is just a bunch of wooden beads that I spraypainted red. All of Ned's stuff was from the Salvation Army, the mustache was a last minute grab from a local costume shop, and the Bible is from...the hotel room. Best impromptu prop ever.

lol and i never thought that it would take quite one year for this

ok, not reall but it took me the longest time

it was pure coincidence that i found one day an image of Renamon in my messagebox also with some free resources

i started to edit the model but it was not "that thing"
the model was in a x-stance and i had no idea what i should do with the fur
so i stopped the work and build some others

then it also was the time i had no access to my PC and the time passed
after a while a second image pop up in my message box

and i just thought
"HOW FUCKING SWEET IS THAT !?
THAT'S IT!!

so i ask

KP-ShadowSquirrel, owner of both models, if he would spend....if he got a low-res version of it

and then if he would spend it for a project.
so you can call this officially my second collaboration

i don't know but i found that 2D-3D convertions always look like ass (best example, Simpsons

)
except one, those from nintendo
take sonic, mario, the pokemon, zelda, they really found a way to convert them

but there is also one who managed it
and in an awesome way

this model of Rena is just super cool

and i don't say that just simply

the editing was not easy to remove all the clippings but after the third attempt it worked
and i can tell you people, this was just fun to build

and the result...even i was blown away

the final building process was the hardest part
it took all my knowledge and techniques to combine all pieces together
holding the model until the glue is sticky
press the taps with tweezers over three edges
put the finger inside and press from the other side with something flat (sounds stupid but maybe you know what i mean

)
so i declare this to difficult level 6 of 10

About the Fur:
well, i thought a long time what i can use for the fur
because the original mesh was not possible to build (defenitly)
so i decided to make it out of cotton wool
haha, it took me one hour to peel it in the right shape
but it was worth

Specifications:
in the download file you will find three pdo's
one with folding lines and texture (lined)
one with folding lines but without texture (white label)
and one without folding lines but with texture (lineless)

so you need as always the Pepakura Viewer which you can download here

the model comes on 23 pages
with 238 pieces

the file also contains a modified texture that works for the model and some color dots that i have used to prevent some texture issues

i didn't write a instruction
is hard but sorted in the way you should build it
but if you have any question either, take a look at the building process gallery ore just ask me

2008 was easily our most ambitious year. We proved that we were capable of creating something truly impressive, but man, did we pay for it.
Kang and Kodos, seemed like such a great idea when my wife came up with it. They are well known (featured on one of the most popular and longest running shows in TV history), are a couple (almost always seen together), consisting of one male and one female (yes, Kodos is a female) and are very Halloween appropriate (Not only are they monstrous in appearance, but they always show up in the Simpsons Halloween specials). We thought we had come up with the PERFECT costume idea... something that was truly worthy of us. Now I see what fools we were.
Don't get me wrong, the costumes turned out great. but they also turned out very heavy and cumbersome. Lugging these things around all night was daunting, and going up or down stairs was downright dangerous. Our faces and bodies were completely covered, which made communication very hard to do (for instance, telling drunk people not to jump on us), and being trapped inside these things, we were unable to take any pictures of the other costumes that night. It really cut into the fun we usually have on State Street.
The people on the street loved us. We couldn't move more than a foot at a time because of all the people who wanted to take pictures with us. We never even made it the length of State Street, since it took around 3 hours to move only a block and a half. We were very popular and many people said that we were the best costumes of the night. Unfortunately these people did not seem to be around during the costume contest, and we lost to some mediocre Edward Scissorhands costume, that seemed to be store-bought. The host of the contest was also an idiot, who introduced us as "Some scary green booger people" Considering all the work that we put into these costumes, we were insulted and royally pissed off.
So, all in all, not a great night. Between the drunk inconsiderate people, the cumbersome costumes, and the contest we are not even sure if we are going to bother making something for next year. ]]> -- This Image--
