First page of the prologue which features HPL as adult!
Nothing special, not much to read and a lot of crappy prospectives, yai! My primary goal with this comic is to FORCE myself drawing backgrounds... or at least try.
Now, let's spend some words about this page. I never been to Providence but I searched references on the web and do some virtual walks on google maps and I hope that the buildings (that I've absolutely invented, this isn't a real street) have a little of the "feel" of the city. I count to be more precise in the next pages since I've found other great references I did not own when started working on this.
The prologue will have its own cover, I'm still colouring it but you can already see a rough sketch in my scrapbook.

I'm going to publish the comic both in italian (on my website/blog) and english (here on deviantart) and I trust in the benevolence of you native english speakers for the corrections XD I will do my best, but I'm afraid I will need your help.


And now a lovely synopsis of the whole project

Howard is a 12 year old boy who has just moved to the ancient town of Arkham. His normal yet solitary life is turned upside down when, snooping in the old house's attic, he finds a damaged copy of the notorious Necronomicon.
Only removing the lock which kept the book sealed, Howard's mind opens on a new comprension of reality and gains a dark knowledge sufficient to drive anyone mad ... except him.
Helped by a (mistakenly summoned) Night Gaunt, Howard begins his journey through Arkham, where the terrible Outer Gods have been trapped and forced to live an human-like existence.
Used to wait for aeons in the darkest regions of the space, most of them take lightly their new condition, except for the eager and hyperactive Nyarlathotep who desperately wants to break free of the curse.

The story will feature famous characters like Randolph Carter, Richard Pickman, Henry Armitage and all Lovecraftian terrible deities: Azathoth, Shub-Niggurath, Yog-Sothoth, Cthulhu, Dagon and more!

Wilbur Whateley in The Dunwich Horror always haunted me a little. He was a nasty bit of work, but he had some excuse. Created and raised to carry out his grandfather's catastrophic plan, given a spectacularly unhuman nature he had to constantly hide, he was screwed around with pretty badly. (For a treatment of the story that fleshes him out a bit, listen to the Nineteen Nocturne Boulevard dramatisation.)

Geisel is my take on him, an early animal test run by Grandpa Whateley, but wiser and luckier than Wilbur; he was smart enough to see a life beyond the wizard's plans for him. Now he lives quietly somewhere, using his Yog-Suthothian powers for his own benign purposes (mainly, chatting on the aethernet with friends in eldritch places).
