Still in the spirit of (somewhat) avoiding my current project, The Valiard Mansion, I've decided to keep sketching my Dedge character.

I thought I'd cut his hair, and it was a fun experiment, but I ended up opting for a longer, star-shaped hairstyle. I still like the shorter styled pics, so I'm posting them. But the current style is far neater that what I posted last, thankfully. Either way, any input in this regard would be very welcome.

What do you guys think? Is this an improvement on my first draft?

And of course obligatory Dedge and Gangfield team-up pic. Flirting with the idea that Gangfield is Dedge's great great grandpa.

But only flirting. Not sure yet.

I should be studying. Or writing the next Valiard chapter. But I need a break from EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW.

Here are my lesson sketch-notes for artist Jennifer Waring, whom I am mentoring a bit, as I help her to explore some of the more contemporary cartooning styles. You can compare the sketches she sent to me (see "Mentoring Jennifer Waring" in my gallery of images) as part of an assignment I created for her, to my sketches, here. As you can see, I am demonstrating how to push the characters to an even more edgy place. I had an idea of a banana girl, or princess, and as I finished that sketch, I thought about an ice cream girl, too.

Banana girl/princess -- 50 -- Her dress, hair, and shoes are banana peels. Her ears resemble banana slices.

Strawberry Ice Cream w/ Choco Syrup girl/princess -- 75 -- Her hair, dress, and stockings/boots are strawberry (or raspberry) ice cream with chocolate sauce/syrup

So yesterday evening, while doing my usual eBay hunt, I came across retro Mickey Mouse underpants from Japan. I couldn’t help but laugh a little; who would ever buy their underwear online? And not just online, but from another country?

I could just imagine the package filled with underpants being processed through customs.

Customs Worker Guy: “Ok, so what do we have here? Hmmm… it’s marked as Mickey Mouse underpants… from Japan… [shrugs] Oh well, I’ve seen stranger.”

But as these crazy thoughts raced through my head, another thought occurred to me…

If there are official Mickey Mouse underpants, could there be official Oswald underpants too?

As an avid collector of Oswald merchandise, would I be required to purchase a pair?

If I didn’t, would I have to revoke my title of crazed collector? Would I be forever shamed for passing up an official Oswald product?

And then this image appeared in my mind and demanded to be drawn! This is why I should not be allowed to have a pen and sketchbook at 3am…

I’m still half tempted to Google search Oswald the Lucky Rabbit underpants, but I’m slightly afraid of what I may find…

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Animaniacs and the 25th anniversary of Who framed Roger Rabbit and The Land Before Time, the unreal characters, Fievel Mousekewitz, Roger Rabbit, Littlefoot, Buster, Babs, Plucky, Dot, Wakko and Yakko are doing the tribute to Steven Spielberg had brought back cartoons. Spielberg's first cartoon production was An American Tail, a make-believe story of a Russian Jewish mouse named Fievel who was separated himself from his family while they're immigrating to the United States. This cartoon was directed by Don Bulth and this cartoon was released in 1986. Two years later, Spielberg and Disney released the live action and cartoon motion picture, Who framed Roger Rabbit. This film has the biggest crossover ever with the characters from Disney, Looney Tunes, and the other animation studios of the Golden Age of American animated cartoons together in one film. This film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Bob Hoskins and Christopher Llyod. The same year, The Land Before Time was released. It's a fictional story of the five orphaned dinosaurs travel the ruins of their world, while grieving the loss of their families and banding together to face the odds of survival. Sadly, Judith Barsi, who did the voice for Ducky, was murdered by her father four months before the film's release. She was only ten years old. Unfortunately, The Land Before Time (1988) is the last Don Bluth cartoon that has Steven Spielberg. In 1990, Spielberg produced a popular cartoon TV series, Tiny Toon Adventures. The show kept on going until Tiny Toon Adventures was cancelled in 1995 with the five year run with three seasons with 100 episodes. Three years later, Spielberg and Warner Bros. launched another popular cartoon TV series, Animaniacs. The show kept on going until Animaniacs was cancelled on November 1998 with the five year run with five seasons with 99 episodes. Two years later, Pinky and Brain, the popular characters from Animaniacs made their own spin off show, Pinky and the Brain. The show kept on going until Pinky and the Brain was cancelled on December of 1998 with the three year run with four seasons with 65 episodes. The same year, Spielberg produced Freakazoid. Freakazoid was cancelled in 1997 with two seasons.
Steven Spielberg did more cartoons in the 1990's like An American Tail sequel, Fievel goes West, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story and Balto. Spielberg also produced the live action adaptations of the popular cartoon TV series, including The Flintstones, and Casper. Spielberg's final cartoon production was Wakko's Wish, a children's fim that as the cast of Animaniacs. Released on December 21, 1999.

The first batch are the turtles singing to Some Nights by FUN.
Because i had it stuck in my head

The kitty turtles was because i was watching the 80's cartoon
and theres an episode when april gets cross mutated
With a cat
And i was poking fun at that

I was playing with my TMNT action figures
and it made me wonder what Leo would look like

I like to act out scenes from the show and i set aside the turtles i dont need

what are names?
So i just doodled chibis during school (So yes. Kor and sean are drawn with a highlighter and sharpie--can you tell?) and there's actually a few batches. No idea if i'll actually finish the other two i sketched considering i have a looot of sketches i could finish X~X
