Gregory House, M.D., is a fictional character and protagonist of the Fox medical drama House. Portrayed by Hugh Laurie, the character is a maverick medical genius who heads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. House's character has been described as a "misanthrope" and a "curmudgeon", the latter of which was named one of the top television words of the year in honor of the character.

On the series, the character's unorthodox diagnostic approaches, radical therapeutic motives, and stalwart rationality has resulted in much conflict between himself and his colleagues. House is also often portrayed as lacking empathy and sympathy for his patients, a practice that allots him the time to solve pathological enigmas. The character is partly inspired by Sherlock Holmes.

Parallels to Sherlock Holmes

House's character is partly inspired by Sherlock Holmes. The name "House" is a play on "Holmes" (with English pronunciation, a homophone for "homes"). Actor Robert Sean Leonard has said that House and his character were originally intended to play the roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the series although he believes that House's team has assumed the Watson role. House is addicted to Vicodin and experiments with other drugs, while Holmes has a cocaine habit and smokes a pipe regularly. Both men are musicians (House plays piano and guitar; Holmes plays violin) and both have a talent for accurately deciphering people's motives and histories from aspects of their personality and appearance. Holmes lives at 221B Baker Street, and House's street address is 221B.

In the pilot episode, the patient's name is Rebecca Adler - her last name is the same as that of one of the most famous characters in Doyle's story "A Scandal in Bohemia." She is described as the only woman who is able to outsmart Holmes, and the Adler character is able to unsettle House with insights on his personality. The name of House's nemesis in "No Reason," Jack Moriarty, coincides with Sherlock Holme's nemesis Professor Moriarty.

For anyone who thinks we are reading too much into a connection between Sherlock Holmes and Gregory House that was never intended, the creator of "House" (David Shore) gave an interview for an article in Zap2It by Kate O'Hare in January 2005 that said:
"...Anytime one says 'puzzle' and 'brilliant deduction' in the same sentence, one can't help but think of the great fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick, Dr. Watson. And indeed, Holmes -- and the real-life physician that inspired him, Dr. Joseph Bell -- were very much inspirations for 'House.'"

...Shore also hopes to draw more parallels to Holmes by drawing House's best, and likely only, friend, oncologist Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), into the Watson role.

"We're looking for Wilson to step up in that regard, as House's everyman, leaning over his shoulder and going, 'How'd you do that?' And more important, 'Why'd you do that?'...."

"Casting"

Before Hugh Laurie was auditioning for the role of Gregory House, he was filming Flight of the Phoenix in Namibia. Laurie was to audition for the role of James Wilson and Gregory House. When Laurie read that Wilson was a character with a "handsome open face," he decided to audition for the role of House.

After watching casting tapes for the pilot episode, Bryan Singer grew frustrated and refused to cast a British actor with a flawed American accent for the role of Gregory House. However, when he saw Hugh Laurie's audition tape, Singer was fooled by Laurie's American accent. He mistook him as an American and praised Laurie as an example of a true American actor. Laurie initially believed that James Wilson would be the protagonist of the show after reading the brief description of the character and did not find out that House was the main character until he read the full script of the pilot episode. Prior to the airing of the series, the producers were also concerned that Laurie lacked sex appeal to the viewers. For his portrayal of Gregory House, Hugh Laurie has won Best Actor in a Television Drama Series from the Golden Globe in 2006 and 2007, and Best Actor from Drama Series from Screen Actors Guild Awards.

I've moved house this month! The above picture is roughly how things went. I don't even have Internet. I bought one of those tiny 'MiFi' 3G Wifi routers to keep my sanity.

So, yeah it's about time I really posted another comic. Thus far through the MLW series I've been roughly making a post every month or so. But due to all the busyness with the move and everything, I'm a few weeks behind this month! So to tide us over, have some Derpy. Full image should be 1920x1080px if you want to download!

I do quite like doing little single-frame images like this. It's a different way to set a scene or tell a story. Also they're faster usually by the time I finish a comic I'm sick to death of it

Things are still settling down over here. Perhaps I'll get back into the swing of things in the coming weeks. I can't wait to finish the next MLW comic, it's been awesome to draw so far and I'm really happy with how it's looking. Hopefully it won't disappoint when it eventually appears!

Okay, so it didn't happen EXACTLY like that...but not too far off.

I DO have a pretty awful sore throat, which I've been fighting all weekend with tea and such. I DID finally get to the health center today (it's closed on the weekends, which sucks beyond words). The doctor said "wow" and other various similar noises when he took a look at my throat. 9_9 They DID check for strep. The first half of this conversation DID ensue just about like that. And he DID prescribe me Vicodin.
...but when he mentioned Vicodin, I did not flail and squee. I merely grinned and mentioned House, and when he looked puzzled, I felt obligated to explain briefly why I was amused.
...I sure FELT like flailing and squeeing, though.

...And for those of you who, like that doctor, don't get it, we're talking about Hugh Laurie House. Awesome TV show House. By-God-look-it-up-if-you-aren't-familiar-with-it House. The character is addicted to Vicodin. Tadaa.

......SO, ANYWAYS. It doesn't seem to be doing much for me, which is weird (edit: I've mentioned in a few comments that I think I MUST have some sorta low-dosage generic thing...same stuff, only...much less, or something, because it really doesn't seem very strong ... and lulz, new edit!: it's that Hydrocodone/APAP 5/500 stuff...which is, essentially, generic Vicodin). I'm still sitting around trying very hard not to swallow, since I don't much care for the feeling of someone stabbing me with a sandpaper-coated knife every time I do.

*wavewave* I'll keep you posted; hopefully I get better soon. Meanwhile, just had to share this amusing tidbit. xD

And 2/17 update: okay, when I took a pill this morning it's not as godawfully painful to swallow, at least when I've got lots of water handy. Last night I decided not to take anything before I went to bed...and...omg...I think it was the most painful my throat has been yet. x___x;; Anyway, I'll see how I feel in a few more hours-- if it starts hurting again, then yay, Vicodin works! If I don't...then I'm getting better, and these silly pills haven't done a thing other than make me a tiny bit woozy. 9_9

Finally, 2/27 update: VICODIN IS A LIE! D8< Well...for me, anyway. Am I immune to opiates or what?! Ah well...so yeah, a week ago the throat-hurting went away on its own...and then, suddenly, I started losing my voice and coming down with a cold. Related? I would assume. x_X But currently I have a screwed-up voice and a stuffed-up nose. Good times. Guess I won't be needing these. *tosses Vicodin and cane over shoulder*

Equestria Divided: House Moon and Star

Hello and welcome to my new project called Equestria Divided. If you aren't fan of grimdark mixed with ponies, chances are you aren't gonna like it.

The premise is simple: Celestia and Luna are no more. They just vanished without a trace, some say they died, others believe they're still alive but trapped somewhere. Equestria is in chaos, ponies don't know what to make of the fact that Sun and moon still seem to keep their usual cycle, even though the royal sisters are gone.

After several uprisings, the elements of harmony decide to take matters in their hooves, however they soon realize they no longer share similar views on the nature of Equestria.

Twilight seem to be the only one still believing in the royal sisters and so - plans to follow their legacy by trying to force an alicorn transformation. With help of Rainbow Dash, who is still loyal to her friend, and Pinkie who reluctantly agrees after AJ declares Twilight insane, the purple unicorn attempts the transformation.

The results are mortyfying - Pinkie is apparently dead, Dash is severely wounded and the rest of the elements turns against Twilight and vows to find their own way to fix the problem.

Fast forward 15 years later - Equestria is divided between five major houses: House Moon and Star, House Everfree, House Earthborn, House Stormwing and House Whitegold. Add to that a mysterious cult on the rise called the Cult of Laughter, and everpresent threat of changelling invasion and you have a recipe for PURE CHAOS.

Lisa Brown later got "even" by reciting parts of the play The Vagina Monologue on the steps of the Michigan statehouse with other women silenced during the debate to a crowd of several thousand of her supporters.

Bwhaha! A new remake of an old favorite! ^^

The orginal wsas made with Windows Movie Maker... which is NOT an animation program by any means T_T; But when my computer died, I lost it, and decided to remake it. the orginal also had audio.. but since Animation Shop 3 has no means by which to import audio files ((that I know of anyway)), I obviously had to use subtitles ((I sorta like em though.. adds a sorta campy, cheesy air to it XD)). I'm working on another version with audio, music and credits.. but I'm not sure how well that'll work because I have to add audio files with that god-forsaken Movie Maker program...

Sorry if it' too fast.. or too slow for that matter ._.;
