Workin on this alongside the 5d's pic... >_>;; OAO

But basically I had the idea of a Fella-inspired Gijinka variant of clothing... (The guy was originally going to be "DA colors") I would want a Fella hat like the one the girl's wearing... :3

In the dark background, is the sketch/lineart of the foreground,

in the light strip across is a collage of some of my deviations i felt portained to AX+DA ( I didn't see a rule against Fanart... and other entries have fanart in them, so that's why I included the simpsons and avatar and ben 10 fanart in that strip, alonsgside with some "cosplay" chibi people (cuz at a con, it's all about cosplay! ) and original characters not uploaded (yet)

The two foreground characters are original designs. :3 (i'm so proud~!)

I probably don't stand a snowball's chance in hell, but it was fun making these characters :3

There's some practice with tones on the foreground characters :3 (i'm practicing for ygo doujin coming soon!)

Lineart: Copic multiliners .25 and .1
CG: (Lineart retouch: Paint tool SAI) (Coloring and composition Adobe PS CS 3)

WELL, I could totally use some cash right now, and I saw the details for the anime expo contest and figured I'd give it a shot. Why not, eh? I'm not happy with that gross orange, but it's actually really hard to find a colour that balances out both red and Fella's bluish grey nicely XD;;; I was also worried about making it too busy because I hate hate HATE posters that have a zillion things going on at once, they irritate my eyes. But I think I went the other way with this one, does it seem too empty? WHATEVER. Overall I'm good with it.

The original's a zillion times huger, by the way. 8D

XD This is my entry for the DA @ AX contest! I wanted to portray a sort of graphic postcard, greetings from sunny California type mood. Anime influence, but without any crazy boobtastic girlies in Fella cosplay. I think DA @ AX is a real celebration of the Asian influences in the DA community. I hope the whole 'new wave' / Hokusai GREAT WAVE of awsome art with the surfs up Fella is well received >w<~~ Anyone catch that's the LA skyline with the mountains in place of Mt. Fuji? The important info is in small type. I also chose to do horizontal because i feel it really catches the eye!! Lastly I left ample room for all the awesome autographs that will go on this poster (theoretically).

Well, I decided to enter this contest despite the fact that I will not be attending AX this year. I really wanted to expose the atmosphere of a convention, especially Artist Alley since Deviantart is about art. Many of the artist in artist alley have Deviantart accounts. I also wanted to tell a bit of a story with my picture, instead of just a figure picture. I used perspective in this picture because art is about backgrounds as well as figures.
I think it has some story. An artist is drawing. A photographer is taking the picture of a cosplayer. Someone is buying a homemade plushie. Cosplayers are walking buy and some artist are talking.
I put a little bit of cameos in this. Eurobeat, a friend of mine and a photographer known at cons is present and :icondynamitebrekdown: is the Gogeta cosplayer. The Ouran Host Club twins are kinda a joke on my sister and me because we said that we would dress as them if we ever went to an Artist Alley. The C.C. cosplayer is another cosplayer I know. : )
This is all done in a traditional method. I used copic markers.

First off, OMFG, did I really do that?! *dies of total shock* Wow, this is the first time I've ever done anime/manga on the computer. Let me tell you, it's a pain in the butt! 8 hours in Adobe Photoshop and of those 8 hours, 1 hour was spent on hair! Stupid hair...next time I do something they are all going bald!

Okay, now about my poster. Let's see....

I chose the color scheme to be black, red, grey, and white. Why? Well, I looked on the Anime Expo website and those were the colors I saw.

Is that Cloud I see? Why yes, yes it is. Why Cloud? Well, when you browse through convention pictures who do you usually see...Cloud! So why not have Cloud be the main man? I mean, he is really hawt and all. So yea, Cloud would be the hero in my poster. However, Cloud also symbolizes something else that I will talk about later on.

Who's the chick? Well, the chick isn't really anyone. But the more I drew her the more I saw Sakura. So I guess it's Sakura. Why her? Well, after losing Sasuke she was pretty sad, so I figured she could be the heroine in distress. She's upset and, while she's feeling blue, the evil doer decides to make his move!

I bet you're wondering who the guy in the middle is, right? Well, he's the infamous Kira, or Light Yagami from DeathNote. Why Kira? Hello, Kira = evil. Thus, Kira is the villain in my poster.

What the hell is the thing on the end?! Well, I was hoping you could tell me! I really don't know what it is. It's some sort of beast, I think. So why did I add him instead of another face? Well, let's just say I had the hero, heroine, villain, and beast idea in mind. So I guess the thing on the right is a demonic beast that will wreck havoc on the poor innocent people.

There you have it! This is my idea of a poster. I wanted it to have a dark tone to it, giving it an evil voice, but at the same time, I wanted there to be hope and light.

So what does this have to do with the Anime Expo? That's easy! I chose some of the more popular characters from my favorite animes/mangas. Since most people cosplay, I figured three people should be sufficient. Then I added a beast, just to show that you don't always have to go as a person.

Oh, I bet you're wondering why Cloud is just a silhouette, ey? Well, Cloud represents those of us that don't want to dress up. He represents everyone else that goes, which is why he isn't colored. Kira, Sakura, and the beastie all represent the love and passion we cosplayers have, while Cloud represents the neutral party. I guess you could say that Cloud represents us artists and those of us that don't have a chance to make an outfit. It's showing that just because he's not fully dressed and in color, that he can, and will always be, an essential part of all conventions.

So there you have it. My reasoning and my poster. Thanks for viewing and understanding my reasoning.

Oh, and as a final note, thank you everyone. Without you all deviantART, anime conventions, and art in general would not be the same. So thanks for making me, as well as everyone else, feel like a part of a large family. If we don't stand up for ourselves who will! So thanks for everything and never let your artistic streak die!

I wish I could say, "I'll smell ya there," but I'm in New York and I'm without money. So for those of you that are going I want 3 things from you.

1.) Have fun
2.) Take a lot of pictures and show me please!
3.) Itachi is mine! If you find a super hawt one please send him my way!

Oh, I forgot to mention, the background was made entirely by me. I got bored last year in art so I made some icy looking stuff and yesterday (when I made the poster) I was just screwing around with the brushes.

And for anyone that wants to take a stab at what drawing I threw into this, I might draw you something. It's somewhere in my gallery, that's the only hit I'll give you. Good luck!

FYI: It took about 45 minutes to come up with the title.

deviantART @ AnimeExpo 2008 poster design contest

so this is my entry :3 people sometimes cosplay at expos so she's wearing cat ears X3

All the colours on her clothes, on the flag and the background are from a screenshot of v6 and I removed the dot off the top of the i in deviant so it's like the logo and the red is there just to brighten it up because it's supposed to be a poster. the dA logos are traced from the screenshot.

Her hair took ages and the full view on this is exactly 3 times smaller than the size I drew it at so the original is really big and linearting it took 2 days alone!

big thanks to my dad for pointing out all my mistakes in the drawing along the way X3;;

This is my entry for the DeviantART at AnimeExpo 2008 poster contest I worked so encredibly hard on this! And I'm so happy I got it done before the deadline I had fun with it though, and this is definatly my best effort. This sucker was completely hand drawn (exept for the errows and sun beam effect in the background, oh and, of course the text). I'm very very proud of how it came out, and, despite how modest you know I am, I have to say, I think I have a good chance of winning. But, I'm not gonna get my hopes up. But still...
Anyway, the big blob in the background is a mixture of different animes (if you couldn't tell), there's:

So when I think anime... I think ninjas. I don't know why, I just do. Even when I don't even watch ninja anime.
When I think dA, I think Fella and art tools.
So now Fella is an art ninja.

The composition is inspired by that movie poster for iron man. Half the face with one light source is just intense! I love it!

When I read about this contest, I wasn't going to enter, but ideas kept popping into my head, so I decided to give it a go.

This is my submission for the DeviantART at Anime Expo Design contest.

I thought a lot about the way I work on my pictures the last days and I finally decided that's time to change a few things *lol*
This picture already conform some of my new intentions:
- think longer about the basic idea behind the illustration.
- spend more time
- more love for details
- spend more thoughs in the composition
- draw more for contests

*lol* there are some more but I still hve to think a little bit about it...

OK. Now about the picture itself:
I wanted to draw artists on different stations of their artistic career. Someone who just made a big jump/improvement, someone who's in a big creative deep and sat down tired and sad, someone who stopped improving to think a little bit, someone who desperately try to reach her idol and stumble, two who walk a little bit together and someone who improves amazingly fast as if he's running.

Haha... I hope I didn't miss the point of the contest.
The only thing (beside the crappy feet) I'm ot satisfied with is, that I've been able to be far more original with the character design V__V

Final question: Is somebody interested in some steps of this picture? I took some photos during the working process.

lolol what am I doing? xD I felt really unproductive yesterday cause I didn't get any CGing done at ALL even though I still need to get more art finished up for AX. >_<" I have a bad habit of making huuuge lists of stuff I need to get done and when I can't finish it (which is usually the case,) I start getting distracted and frustrated. SO looool...

Made this poster. Just scribbled it out on my sketchbook and decided to color it since I don't have any finished AX sketches to CG yet (/Procrastination to the max >_>; )

For the poster I just thought it was cool how people from all different areas on dA could like meet up during AX. Granted, I know people don't come in blimps or rainbow parachutes. But it seemed a lot cooler to draw that than like, an airplane. Or a car :[ Took me a while to figure out the font used for the dA logo too. dA Poster - Anime Expo 2008

For some reason, the only contests here I enjoy participating in here seem to have ridiculously short deadlines. I’ve spent the last three days eating, sleeping, and working on this poster. This is my entry for the deviantART at Anime Expo 2008 contest.

Even though it looks relatively simplistic, I actually put a lot of planning into this piece. (For anyone who wishes to hear my logic, please read on. Otherwise, check out the other entries. There’s some really good stuff in this contest.) First off, I decided early on not to use any known anime characters. Being that deviantART is more or less acting as a guest at an event of another organization, it is important for them to retain their own identity and refrain from linking themselves with known (and licensed) characters. Not to mention this use of licensed characters or their likenesses might present its own legal issues.

Second, I decided not the have the dA fella doing something anime related. In the respect of the event, deviantART is attempting to attract the attention of the con goers (a.k.a. anime fans). This is why the anime fan in the poster is curious about what the dA fella is doing and not the other way around. The girl herself is not a preexisting character, but there are more then enough references on her person to represent the target audience. (And, to choke a horse.)

I decided to keep the layout fairly simple, but still stay true to deviantART’s basic design. (Hence the color theme.) A poster should neither be too simple or too complicated. If it’s too simple then it will not grab the attention of the target audience, and if it’s too complicated then the message you’re trying to convey may be lost. The part most likely to attract attention first is the bright purple(ish) brush stroke (right near the info), then the eye (it would seem) naturally follows down the girl’s body and ends up on the dA logo.

Who knew an art lecture ten years ago would actually be put to use? I can honestly say that I put my best foot forward on this one. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I really really need to get out of my house for a while…

Well, I thought I would give this contest a shot.
I'm pretty satisfied with my entry. It came out better than I originally expected (minus some of the crazy lines and wacky perspective. Then again, I only knew about the contest like two days ago...so I was trying my hardest to get an entry up in the time alotted.)

Any suggestions to help make the poster better are greatly appreciated.

this is for the contest ^^... well the rules said that we must draw something that "should be representative of the event and the deviantART community in some way. " ... so to me Anime associates(or whatever it is spelled ) to a girl with a long long hair and in a skirt(a lot shorter than in the pic thoug ) so here you have it.... I'm not good at backgrounds... it took a day to come up with this crapish bg >_<

enyways... I cant go to LA so I decided to take part in the contest ^^ hope u like it

oh and.. the background text doesnt mean enything (I think )

dA Anime Expo 08 poster 2

The second of two submissions for the Anime Expo 08 poster contest [link] (first submission is here [link]). My idea for this was to have Fella (the dA mascot) doing different cosplays, so I tried to choose some of the more popular and recognizable ones.

This was fun to do! It nearly killed me to draw each of those figures, especially since I only found out about this contest three days before the deadline. Just my luck, eh. >_> Plus, I've seen some of the other entries, and they're REEEEEAAALLLLLYYYY good, so I probably don't have much of a chance. >_>; Still, it's the first time in months I've felt inclined to draw anything, so it was nice to draw something again after such a long hiatus. Even if it was a terrible rush.

I have a few more sketches of characters (like Vash and Squall) that didn't make it into the final cut, which I may do later just for the hell of it.

My entry for the poster contest. I am... really happy with it! I would have liked to work on it even more, but I only found out about this contest on like Thursday, so even though there are a few more hours before the deadline I'm a little burned out on it.

These are parody characters; they bear a resemblance to certain copyright characters but have been altered in a number of ways. Also I don't want to hear any Naruto fans whining about this parody. I love Naruto, I just thought it would be funny.
