My fourth and final entry to the Ultimate Fandom contest, and I think I saved my best idea for last First - the mandatory rundown.

Bowser, or "King of Koopa" as he was formerly called, has been present ever since Mario's first adventure, and every evil villain needs his fortress of doom right? so His castle has always been a final stage in each game.
For a couple of months now, I've been wanting to do something like this, and this contest was my motivation to actually do it, since it seemed like a daunting task to try out. Bowser's castle does seem to vary in appearance from game to game, probably because Mario keeps laying waste to all of his expensive castles lol. I was on the verge of drawing the type you see in the latest Mario Kart game, but found a screenshot from a different game (I think Mario Party for the DS) which is where I based this from, and the design on that version looked the coolest of all the Bowser Castle's I've seen

Art details: This one is 100% pure illustrated in Photoshop (with a mouse still lol), something I hardly do now that I have 3D and access to stock textures or photo's. I figured it would look better and more dramatic that way, considering my other entry to the environment slot was almost fully 3D. And to also remind everyone that I can do pretty good stuff without the need for 3D too Everything here was done from scratch in the most traditional way that digital art can get

My second entry to the Ultimate Fandom Contest 3 for Videogames, the necessary details are as follows:

I wanted at least one of my entries that I'll make for this to not be either Sonic, Mario or Final Fantasy-related lol, so I thought about other games I enjoyed playing, perferrably ones that are around a decade old by today, which to me, may have had primitive graphics, but sure had some of the best gameplay value I don't know what possessed me to play F-Zero-X back then, since it was pretty far from the "usual" stuff I like (same thing with Lylat Wars, which I grew to enjoy, maybe I was more open-minded then lol) And since I would probably have a hard time drawing their detailed characters (which aren't much to look at) I figured creating a realistic remake of one of the most known stage environments in the game would be a cool thing to do (plus I'm a sucker for purple too )

Now for the technical details for all those curious little minds out there:
Firstly, I'm very surprised that my last entry was finished only a week ago, since this honestly felt like it took two, maybe because I spent more hours per-day working on it (I even took my file to class last week lol) I made plenty of futuristic building-models from scratch in Cinema 4D, which was a pretty boring and repetitive task, and about 80% of the time I spent on this was on that bit alone. I could have used free plugins like "citygen" to make building creation faster, or even used the "dystopia" buildings that come with Vue to save time...But no, I wanted everything to be fully my creation, the good o'l way, no stocks or corner-cutting here.
Once the buildings were made, I then imported them to Vue 6 where they were re-textured and re-named (naming and texturing hundreds of little peices again was a royal bore, luckily I saved the buildings as objects to save time on my next sci-fi scene) But finally, with that done, I could do the fun stuff...playing with the lighting and atmosphere, then taking a day off while it rendered, then postworking extra details in Photoshop

My first, of what will be hopefully 4 entries to the The ultimate fandom contest so before I start with my long-ass description, I'll give the rundown as requested by contest rules:

-Ultimate fandom contest3: video games (already gave a link up top)
-Gaming franchise: Sonic the Hedgehog (can fit many of the games, but more likely Sonic Adventure)
-Environment or character: Character (I will do an environment next)
-My description: read below...

At first, I wanted to avoid the temptation to draw an already popular game character, but really, nearly all the games I am a fan of are either Sonic or mario-related lol. So if I forced myself to draw a game I didn't care about simply because less will do it, well it would defeat the purpose of fanart now wouldn't it? Plus, I just realised I havn't made any Sonic-related fanart in a year and a half! oh the time goes faster than Sonic himself
In recent years, Sonic has gotten bad press from half of his fanbase, who think that the newer 3D games are butchering the franchise and many former fans just think Sonic would be better off rolling over and dying. Well, I agree that the old ones are definetily more "fun" and have more replay value. But I don't think the new ones are all that bad, But still - I'm hanging on for the day when Sonic explodes in popularity when Sega finally brings out what we all want...a 3D rendition of some of the best older games

And now for the technical details. Both Sonic and Dr Eggmam had their poses based off found images, I got the idea for Sonic's pose from a screenshot of Sonic Adventure, and Eggman's is from the "Sonic-X" anime show that seemed to go out as quickly as it came in (mind you, Eggman was really holding a control stick to one of his machines, but I thought the Emerald would be more appropriate) However, the lighting and colour scheme on the characters, along with the background was all purely my idea, I wanted the action-packed movie-poster sort of thing going on here

Seeing how my first "character" slot for the Ultimate fandom contest was of a more "cartoony" styled game character, here I went the opposite end and tried someone which is a bit more realistic, plus I know that I have many Final Fantasy fans watching me, patiently waiting for another one, so here it is! and heres the details...

-My Description: as follows...

As far as villians go, you gotta take your hat (or spikey blonde hair) off to Sephiroth. Probably one of the most popular "bad" characters of all time, due to the fact that he emits an unusual, yet successful vibe of both grace and destruction. He's not your generic, muscle-bound, half-witted enemy, but rather one that deceivingly looks more graceful with his slim-build, clean costume design and platinum hair that never ever seems to get tangled, or covered in dirt or blood no matter how feirce a battle gets not to mention he tends to be more smarter too...why, in a more "realistic" situation, I don't think even Cloud's best efforts would have been enough to stop this formiddable foe

The purple theme was chosen since I think it best fits the concept of "dark magic" and looks great with the black, I don't recall Sephiroth using a shadow-ball, but hey, it looks cool here anyway I was almost considering a green theme to fit "Mako energy" but eh...will save that for a later time.
Oh, and I'd better state that this was drawn with a mouse! Yeah, it's the sucker way and explains why this took a week and a half to do while someone with a tablet could have done it in a day lol, I'm considering getting one though

Sephiroths character design is owned by Square-Enix, this artwork was illustarted by me and is to not be used or displayed on other galleries or sites

I chose Charizard because he's one of my favorites . I spent many happy childhood hours with my Pokemon Red game . Pokemon in some ways inspired me to draw more, for after I drew as much fanart as I could, I then began to create my own "makemon" |D... And then I pushed my creativity into new places and new things! Even without pokemon, I'm sure I would've kept up with art, as it is my passion, but it most definitely sped up my progress and inspiration .

Well here they are! The non-Hylian kids from the Legend of Zelda games. As with the previous picture, not all the kids are here...just those I liked or thought were important. And so, from left to right back row:

These guys were a lot of fun to draw, and I think that the Deku Princess is my favorite in regards to how the drawing turned out.

Edit: Fixed some slight problems with the Goons...who are shockingly tough to draw and make look just right! Deku Scrubs are much easier to draw.

Sailing, Sailing

Sailing, sailing....and more sailing....and MORE sailing....!

Graphics aside, I really enjoyed the gameplay of Windwaker...except for the HUGE amount of sailing you have to do. Talk about tedious!

Anyway... Here's Link and the King of Red Lions sailing along in front Greatfish Isle. The skinny line to the right of Greatfish Isle is Needle Rock Isle, and that's Islet of Steel to the right of the picture.

And yes, I gave Link a more realistic style. I very much disliked the graphics in this game... Not the cel-shading, that didn't bother me that much. it was the stylized look they gave the characters that bothered me. So I gave Link my own look.

This is my new second entry to the Ultimate Fandom Contest 3: Video Games. [link] The genre is Legend of Zelda, and the category is "Characters".

I always liked the King of Red Lions; he reminds me a bit of Falkor from the Neverending Story...whom I also like a lot. And sailing on that boat does sound like fun if one isn't forced to do it for hours on end...

Anyway, I have just finished playing Windwaker and was inspired to draw Link on his journey across the seas, and Greatfish Isle is, I think, one of the cooler and more distinct islands.

I was so HAPPY!

I've been looking for a contest of this sort for quite a while now so this was a gift from heaven!

I've laid most attention on the characters, but the background is not forgotten...
(I could not leave out the typical Mario bushes and clouds... )

The reason I chose Paper Mario? well, it has the typical "oh, Princess Peach has been kidnapped!" theme and also it seems to be a blend between Mario and Final Fantasy! which, btw, is also a game I love!

I've spent many hours of playing this game, and also on this drawing...!

so if I can even get a twitch of a smile from anyone, I consider my job well-done!

This is a piece for one of my favorite survival horror games, Resident Evil 4. I made it specifically for this contest: Ultimate Fandom Contest 3

-Reason I chose these characters: Because I've been a big fan of Ada and Leon since I first played Resident Evil 2 back in 1998 on the PS1.

Not only did the contest make me want to draw this, but one of my rather new friends I made here on DA (~LadyofRohan87) and I have been talking about Resident Evil quite a bit lately and it sorta sparked new RE love inside me. So I had two things motivating me to make this!
This picture is of Ada Wong (the woman in red) and Leon S. Kennedy (in his secret mafia costume). The weapon Ada is holding is the Black Tail and Leon has the Infinite Rocket Launcher.
It was kinda difficult making the light effects on the stone structures in the background, but it was also a fun challenge at the same time! I'm sure most fans of the game will instantly recognize the area I drew the background from. I don't know why, but that area has always stuck out in my mind and is my favorite scenic location in the game. There's really nothing special about it, I just happen to be fond of that place and thought it'd make for a really great background.
I drew this with a V5 Precise pen, a black Pentel marker and colored it with Prismacolor pencils.

This is one of the first drawings I can remember doing without having a graphite pencil touch the page. It was quite challenging, and I enjoyed it.

This is for the category Characters.

(EDIT: oops I needed a description of why I chose this... here it goes)
Description: The Master Chief, for me, is the embodiment of heroism and masculinity. Everything from the metal armour to his voice to the way the light reflects off his visor just makes me sigh with joy. How could I choose any other video game character to draw?
Now, I must also talk about Cortana, since she appears in this picture as well. She falls more under the category "I find her really pretty and I enjoy drawing her" because I really don't like the direction they took her in halo 3. I like the halo 1 Cortana: spunky, stupid and PURPLE instead of blue. Heh. Cortana really bugs me as a character, because I feel like the MC doesn't need a female figure to be attracted to. I feel like it was forced in halo 3 to make the game more interesting. Yes, I've read the books. I know this opinion isn't based on much fact. But when you fancraze over something so immensely popular, you tend to want to make it your own... change it. So in my little world... I view these characters a bit differently. You all are welcome to have your own opinion.
In essence, I chose Halo and the MC and Cortana because these characters have inspired creativity in me in a time in my life where creativity was extremely hard to come by. I think that's really what fanart is all about. Being creative about something you love, even though that something isn't yours to keep... because you make it your own in re-creating it. I take these characters, you all do, and we incorporate them into ourselves and into the way we live our lives.

Because I'm a huge fan of console and video games, I decided to participate in the Ultimate Fandom Contest 3: Video Games, in the "Character" category.

This is Sophia Esteed, one of the main characters from Star Ocean 3. She is a caring and charming girl, but not so fond of fighting. In my opinion, she's one of the best symbologists (magic users) in the game.

I chose Sophia because of her strong character. She's not my favourite, but she was the easiest and funniest to plan and draw (at least for me).

Another reason to draw her was that I haven't seen much Star Ocean submissions here. First I though about drawing someone from Final Fantasy or Hitman series, but then decided to go with Star Ocean 3.

I chose to draw Raziel for several reasons. One reason being because growing up i had been a fan of the games. It was just such an interesting story of a vampire, who was betrayed by his leader, comes back from the dead to seek revenge.
The other reason for doing this drawing is because i havent really seen much fanart in quite some time. I had always wanted to do something for this game, and well im glad i chose to enter this contest because it gave me an opportunity to try doing some fanart for this game.

I feel quite proud of myself on this one

For the super awesome contest: Ultimate Fandom 3: Video games. [link] I always wanted to do this type of contest. : D

Game: Kingdom Hearts
Character: Heartless (Soldier)

I originally wanted to submit one of my older pictures (that has been collecting dust in my computer), but decided against it because 1. That's being lazy, and 2. I wanted to put forth my best work, and my drawing has improved since I last did KH fanart. After I decided that, I thought against doing video games I wasn't familiar with (which is apparently a lot). And I didn't want to draw anymore humans in Kindom Hearts because I've done most of the mainstream characters, and I wasn't in the mood to draw humans at the time And I was sure Donald and Goofy didn't count since they were famous in cartoons before Kingdom Hearts...

So while browsing through the official art, I was like: Heartless. And I wanted a challenge, so I disregarded the Noucturne, Rhapsody (I think that's it), the other two small ones, the Shadow, the White Mushroom, Black Toad... there's so much... So that left the rest (the monkeys, bandits, the two big ones, air soldier, soldier... again, a lot more). And so I chose the soldier.

And that is this picture's life story

Took me a couple of days to complete... the drawing, lineart, coloring together... I was even coloring it in class to save time... and so I could get it done to put it on my powerpoint I had to do for physics (introduction to self).

For the Ultimate Fandom Contest 3: Video Games

Well this is something new for me! I felt like doing something new and different to digital art, and more importantly something that wouldn't require progress bars (I now get a progress bar for the paint bucket tool. It's painful), and I'd recently brought one of these posable wooden figurines, so I decided to make him into Altair

Made from a couple of old t-shirts, some fake leather and a hell of a lot of tin foil. All weapons are removable, including the throwing knives! And the hidden blade is also extendable and retractable. I never thought I'd describe a hidden blade as cute, but this one is adorable! lol There's a lot more detail to this which can't be seen in these pictures, and I was planning on making a details pic, but I've now got a new computer (to combat the insane progress bars), but can't get Photoshop on it so I'll have to wait and see if I can make that pic later.

I chose her because this girl needs love. She's a wonderful character, and it's a shame that she doesn't get the love she deserves.

About the pic: last time I try perspective. Ever. Because it's frustrating, I can try forever and still it doesn't come out the way I want.
And as you can see I took some liberty with the details, 'cause they were too difficult for me. But I'm still rather pleased.

Done for DevianART's Ultimate Fandom 3: Video Games contest.

[EDIT] Game was Final Fantasy VIII, featuring characters Rinoa and Squall, entered into the 'characters' category. Just re-read the rules; thought I'd abide by them.

Final Fantasy VIII was by far my favorite game of the series. I nearly cried when I watched the opening sequence for the first time -- video games had come so far! And the music was phenomenal, such a beautiful experience.

In honor of this, I drew a scene from the dance sequence because that FMV was my favorite! Done in pseudo-Amano style, because it just seemed like...the right thing to do, haha. I love Amano Yoshitaka; he is a brilliant artist and Final Fantasy wouldn't be the same without him!

I chose Desmond and Dr. Vidic for my character design because I wanted to explore in depth what could happen to Desmond as he loses his mind to the animus and becomes more and more like his ancestor Altair. Ah, madness is a beautiful thing!

Oh! And the Abstergo symbol is courtesy of ~tenshi-rising. She made the awsome photoshop brush for it!

Originally completed on September 1st, 2008. Done with Crayola and Prismacolor colored pencils, Sakura Pigma Micron pens (one of which died on me), a Neopiko Deleter pen, various #2 pencils, and a mechanical pencil.

Required Commentary: This picture was done for the Ultimate Fandom 3 Contest: Video Games. [link] This picture is for the "Character" category (although the background is pretty cool as well). The character here is Zelkova, from .hack//G.U. Volume 3: Redemption. He's in the other volumes of the games too, but this is the one in which he really gets a chance to shine. He isn't the main character, or even one of the major characters, but his childlike sense of optimism and excitement is something that every gamer wishes to feel when playing a video game...

Unnecessary Commentary: The completion of this picture was delayed for various reasons, but at least it still looks good enough to enter in a contest. ^_^ His pose is based on the funny way he bows whenever you give him a gift. In a way, this picture comes full circle, since my first picture from this fandom was set in a similar temple-dungeon setting...

OKAY! This is EMMETT!
He was fucking hilarious as he walked down the catwalk. I was dying of laughter, he puffed out his chest, and walked like he owned the place. He got fourth sadly T_T;

We got picture's of them all together, I gotta get emailing the people I worked with to get those pics.

He talked to me alot as well, as well as walked around and asked questions. He was a really cool guy. Apparently he was my neighbor at one point when I lived in Utah. XD I knew he looked familiar!

Nethack Wizard

This is a submission for the Ultimate Fandom Contest for video games in the character catagory.

The game I chose was one which did not lend itself well to this type of contest, but kept coming back into my head after my first attempt failed. The game is Nethack, which in its original form (and as I play it) represents everything in ascii. For example the race you choose to play, is represented by @.

Despite the challenge of normally characters being represented by a keyboard character I decided to give in and try nethack, because of wanting to do fanart for a unique game - something which wasn't well known. Part of the point of fan art seems to be exposing others to that which you are interested in through your art, so in a contest like this I tend to value a theme which is less well known if I get a variety of ideas.

When I play nethack, I always play a wizard, and wizards start with pet kittens. The player character is a @ and a cat is an f. Therefore I made an avatar with a wizard (with visable starting equiptment of a quarterstaff and a cloak of magic resistance) with an @ on the wizard's shirt, and the pet kitten with a f on its back.

Ultimate Fandom Contest 3: Video Games. I had already submitted this right before the contest was posted. I decided to throw this up there for Super Smash Bros. in the character category (seeing as there isn't much of an environment). I felt like drawing this because of how intense this game really is.
