My starting point for this was thinking about a movie called <i>Honest</i>. It isn't the best film ever if you want to judge it on things like writing, acting and directing, but I enjoyed it anyway. This piece isn't a rip-off of any part of that movie, though - there are very few similarities.<br /><br />Then I thought if I <i>did</i> place in the contest, it had better not be too difficult at all for the film guys to adapt it. Well, I think anyone who wants to make a film will be able to find two actors and a bathroom, no? Also, I've kept stage directions to a minimum. There are a couple of things presentation-wise that really matter to me - like Karen's attitude when she first enters - but mostly I'm leaving plenty of room for artistic interpretation.<br /><br />I'll take any suggestions for improvement. Screen writing is not my forte, so please, critique away (just please don't make suggestions that would involve making the piece longer). ]]></media:description>

This turned out nothing like my original vision whatsoever - the original setting, characters and themes are entirely absent from this - but I enjoyed writing this immensely. <br /><br />I haven't really done anything with camera angles and all that malarkey before, so I would love advice on that front! And generally your thoughts on any element of this whatsoever would be very much appreciated: clarity, character consistency, grammar... Plus I'm back to my usual title-loathing, of course. The last few get on and the camera pans round to follow the coach as it leaves, then moves suddenly back to the Home, bringing into focus an old man, ERNIE ROGERS, glowering through a large downstairs window.<br /><br />The next shot is from inside the Home, at an angle to ERNIE, so that the view from the window is still visible. Before I forget: Since this is for a contest, I'm sorry, but I won't give anyone permission to produce this or use it, even with credit, at least until the contest is over. <br /><br />EPILOGUE and INFO- While this film stands fine on it's own, the characters are from my series "Darwin High," about the students in Charles Darwin High School. <br /><br />This is more of a prequel to that series, as it takes place when Maggie is still in 8th grade. Any difference in her character now and then is probably because 1.) She gets more mature in High School and 2.) She gets weird on caffeine.<br /><br />As such, Maggie does not actually die. She suffered a minor stress-induced heart attack, exacerbated by the fact that she loathes exercise and so it probably wasn't that healthy to begin with. She's too embarrassed to talk to Kevin again until she meets him by chance at the beginning of the school year, as a Freshman. They never mention this incident.<br /><br />EDIT: Contest has been over for a while now, so feel free to produce this! The walls, ceiling, and door are all black. There is very little light, just enough to see the two unmoving silhouettes of the artists (THE EXPRESSIONIST and THE ABSTRACT ARTIST) facing each other against opposite sides of the stage. One is staring straight ahead, but cannot see where he is looking. Backdrop of the world&#039;s highest mountains and a surrounding gardens of the uttmost beauty. Cherry-blossoms everywhere.<br /><br /><b>The Audience Chamber:</b> A huge, well-lit room with an open format. The archiatecture is a curious hybrid of asian and viking styles. The floor is scattered with cushions and rugs upon which the courtiers lie. The throne itself is like to a giant bed. There are silk drapes everywhere along with incense burners.<br /><br />Now as I have promised, more details will come soon! There are massive mountains in the background. It is overcast and there is a slight breeze which swirls the autumn leaves about his ankles. There is thunder in the distance but it doesn't look like rain.<br />He is sharpening and polishing a sword, and has a whetstone and a rag sitting nearby. No one else is around.<br />Shot cuts to a closer view of Ezia. He looks a little glum and he is obviously concentrating hard on the sword. The camera changes focus to the background, focusing on a door.
