Anyway, I've had these strange alien plants in mind for a long time, probably even a few years. It's amazing how much time goes by when you decide to put an idea off for a dry moment. But just as well since I think this would hopefully be an original entry idea for the sci-fi Lost Lands contest

- I m trying to avoid as much as possible too futuristic design but a combination of sci-fi and fantasy designs.

- The concept idea here is to show the contrast between the High Class Social and The Low Class Social through colors and designs. Hidden inside of dense fog, it has preserved being a mystery during the course of events.
It seems that you cannot enter the water with ordinary means as it will immediately dissolve everything. The only chance to surpass this obstacle is to board an abandoned ship that constantly voyages accross this lake.
Silently, it departs again. Shall we take this opportunity? So far, not a single soul has ever returned. This is why we named it "Lake of the Lost Souls".


Fairly quick one. Initially, I wanted to start out with some sort of chasm-scene but got stuck in further going with the concept. That's the point where I decided to abandon the chasm-concept and instead fill the chasm with some water. Didn't remember that rendering water can take so long but it was surely the slowest thing in the creation-process.

Rendering itself was done in Vue 7 (with a lot of crashing involved, as usually), post-working with quite a bunch of overpainting done in Photoshop. All in all, 1 week of having fun.

The Story:

Two rival factions were so obsessed with destroying each other that their respective superweapons ended up destroying the planet on which they resided.

The Reason:

So my mates had already expressed an interest in a destroyed world, which gave me a pretty good idea. Then I saw Beyond the Frontier’s Lost Lands competition and I decided to do one to really stretch myself. So for three days I went pretty much nuts on Photoshop, bringing my A-game.

The process:

Started off looking at Voyager’s guide here [link] to get an idea as to what to do, seeing as there are no other destroyed planet tutorials. I am not a speed painter, but the idea got me going.

I also cruised some stocks to get some idea; I used these [link]§ion=&global=1&q=asteroid#/d3czr9, [link]§ion=&global=1&q=asteroid#/dpxgsz, [link]§ion=&q=dead#/d1d9fco, though there were many others that got my attention.

A high ranking Children of Ra officers last report was from Degre VII. We believe he was present during the attack and due to his nature; we strongly believe he is still alive.
Commander, we need you to set course for the remains of Degre VII and search for Drebnor at once!

Degre VII:
Degre VII is a United Terran Alliance colony planetoid located in the Canis Maior System. It is orbiting around the sun Adara, 470 light years away from the Earth.
An angular distruption is brought forth by Degre VII's moon; Radon, makes 56% of the planetiod in hazardus contact with Adara's light radiation. The rest of the planetoids 44% is in constant night. The only stellar light source is Radon.

Despite this rather hostile planetoid, simple forms of mushroom-like cellular life grows on the bright side, able to withstand hostile eruptions of super heated oxygen. And on the dark side, similar mushroom lifeforms have evolved, most of the life on the dark side glow in the dark in a dim blue haze.

The planet was quickly colonized due to its massive supply of thorium; The most common fuel of United Terran Alliance Interstellar Spacecrafts.

The planet was declared UTA territory in 2435 after a major battle against the now wiped out space pirate organization 'Tenebrae'.

1920x1200 wallpaper size for your pleasure. Bigger resolutions avaliable upon request (Without the interface).

For this image, I wanted to capture the natural calm beauty of space as well as try to give the viewer a deep space feeling. The feeling of vast openness was my ultimate goal. I also wanted to focus my attention on a primary focal point, the moon. It was a moon i spent tremendous time on, and in the end, the detail payed off. I am very pleased with this outcome!

I've uploaded the coordinates. The trees in that marsh can grow up to 1,000 feet tall, and the canopy challenges the skyline of the capitol cities of the coreworlds. But that structure...it must be hundreds of thousands of years old. Who built it? I cannot say. I'm no xenologist, but I've never seen its like. It is unsettling to look at and even more nerve-wracking to live in day after day. I believe that the Silent Scream pirates get their fierce reputation not because they are inherently blood-thirsty, but because of that place they've chosen as their base. At night, the walls whisper to you. You can't make out the words, but it transmits vague associations of unspeakably vile acts and wanton carnage. I'll be glad when you guys extract me so I can lay low somewhere on the right side of sanity for a while.
One other note, besides the security layout and data codes I sent you, be aware that when you hit this place, there's a heavy guard force stationed in the sublevels. There are extensive, half-flooded, root-choked catacombs down there of unwholesome ancientness. I could not get any details, but it seemed to me that the guards down there aren't posted to keep anyone out...but instead to keep something trapped inside. I'm going to go down and check it out later, to make sure they haven't got any nasty surprises down there.

As the sun began to set and the winds began to rise, the two took refuge in a peculiar ice cave at the foot of an equally peculiar rock formation.

Mounds of snow and ice had built up and covered most of the western side of the formation from the never-ending east-blowing winds. Outside the cavern footsteps and ski treads were blown away faster than they could be made.

Humans were hoping to find life on the water based planet, but when they got there they discovered that every ounce had frozen solid after the planet moved too far away from its sun.

"Isnt it strange that a water covered planet so much like Earth should fail to give birth to any carbon-based life? ...Im no geologist, but by golly these stalactites are simply fantastic! How like the teeth of some giant beast they are!"

The researchers left, the search was forfeit, no trace of life was ever found.

Big surprise, I didnt even make honorable mentions.
