i find the sighting strange because i saw this almost a week prior

this is actually a panoramic shot, as i took a few vertical images and stitched them together.

edit: wow my first DD. its an awesome feeling and was definitely something nice to wake up to. I've come a long way since this image and I couldn't have done it without the support I get from all of you. Thanks suggesting the DD, and thanks for making it happen. it means so much!

First real good shot from May 10th's storm chasing. We payed our dues the night before, when our car ran out of gas 5 miles north of Salina, KS (never trust a GPS... it will lead you to gas stations that are closed or out of commission). Luckily, Chris called his insurance company and in about an hour, we were rolling again after a towing service gave us 2 gallons of gas. $6 is all it cost, thank goodness for roadside assistance! Anyway, we figured the trouble the night before meant that we wouldn't have any trouble on the day of the chase. This was the first storm we got under. Some really incredible structure.

On Tuesday, June 1st, I saw the craziest storm structure I have ever seen. I'm a novice when it comes to forecasting and recognizing specific elements of a storm, but I know good structure when I see it. This was, most accurately put, a green beast. At this point, the most dangerous thing it was dropping was golf ball sized hail (even a few softballs reported). However, as the evening pressed on, it began to intensify electrically. When we stopped to take photos of the lightning, we were about 100 yards from being hit Definitely had to do a panorama to capture the entire thing (this is 4 shots stitched together).

As we stood around in the fields taking photos, the storm began to near. Soon, this "whale's mouth" shelf cloud swept over us, revealing some fantastic textures and colors under the storm. Had to do a panorama for this one because not even 10mm could adequately capture all the beauty

As the sunset began, I looked to the east in hopes of seeing a rainbow. Unfortunately, I didn't see one at this point. Instead, I photographed the sunlit rain shafts, which made for an interesting composition with the converging shadows. As I began to take this panorama, a flock of doves flew just above me! It was magical. Although I didn't see it at the time, if you look towards the right side of the photo, you can see the beginning of a very faint rainbow. Thank goodness for panoramas! Otherwise, there would have been no way to capture this dynamic scene.

I'm extremely surprised this panorama turned out so clear. As I took this, we were getting blasted by 50-60mph winds (at our back) with this structure approaching us. Got a little dust and sand in my eyes, but we survived This thing was moving so fast that by the time we turned around to get out of there, we were caught. Some extremely heavy rain and strong winds, but Chris managed to drive us through it just fine. All in all, it was a great day, and I am very proud of my panoramic images of the storm that I managed to capture

Another panoramic shot of this storm as it developed, heading east-southeast. At this point, it became green instead of blue. It was also tornado warned, though I doubt anything was actually spinning up in this.

Downtown Louisville is beautiful, especially at night with the lights making her glow. I've wanted to catch one of these moments for the longest time. Finally, one night in early June I set out on a journey to create this photo.

My second ever true panorama photo. For this one I had to take a small trip to the other side of the Ohio River into Indiana and find a way to get down to the river for the spot I wanted. I won't go into detail how I got there, because then I may implicate myself for something.

The night was hot and very humid and the ground where I stood was, for the most part, uneven and I was surrounded by brush. This made things challenging, because I wanted to hurry up and get things done since I was miserable, but I forced myself to take the time I need to get things right.

I took four photos to use for the pano, but only used three of them and then cropped out about half of the third one to even things up. I had to use a long exposure and after messing around with different times I finally settled on 3.6 seconds. Editing was done in both Lightroom (pre-pano stitching) and Photoshop (post-pano stitching) and all together I put about 2.5 hrs of work into this one.

Overall I'm very happy with the way it turned out, although I do wish I had done more to prepare myself, instead of just jumping right into it that night.

Here you have it, the real Storm Prediction Center I'm so lucky to be able to chase with these guys. Tyler (left) forecasts and maps out the route, and Chris (right) forecasts and drives us in and around these chaotic storms. Meanwhile, I just take pretty photos of the storms Guess I'm there at least to keep an eye on the storm, just in case it suddenly drops a funnel (it happens).

My Mom and Dad are working on building their dream home! They have been working on rebuilding this house/yard etc a little bit at a time over the past few years. This year they finally had the means to start fully remodling the house I wanted to do a 360 degree/180 veiw of the work they have started and I will do a full finished one they are all done!
This is my first panoramic shot and I have to admit this was sooo much fun. I took about 90 pictures...edited it down to about 86...I know I could do some final Photoshop tweaking on it but I kinda like this result...I think I'll leave it!
After doing this I think i just may save up to buy an Isweep camera for Panoramic pictures!!

This is a HDR panoramic shot of the mountains behind my house in Sandy, Utah, on the exceptionally stormy day of May 12th, between 4:40 and 4:43 PM. It is composed of 20 HDR images, with each HDR image made out of 3 separate images, totaling 60 photos in all. This was actually just a test of my camera's HDR capabilities, so every image was handheld, instead of taken with a tripod like normal. I had no idea this would turn out this great, and I must comment the HDR and photo stitching capabilities of Photoshop CS4. However, the new Version of Deviantart will not let me upload a large image for some reason, and so the image availiable for download has been drastically resized, to about 6% of the size of the original panorama. I still hope you will be able to enjoy it.
For some reason the camera data does not show up for this, all the images were taken with a Canon EOS 40D.

IMPORTANT: The new Deviantart resizes full-view images, so you have to click download to see the full-sized image

Especially since we got lucky to find a place to stop, and the whole group of me, my partner Phillip and my in-laws were all clicking madly at this lake. I was the only one who got out a tripod and did a pano.

Some of you may recognize this from a lot of my other photos - I love this waterfall~!

After the success of the last panoramic compiled shot, I figured it was time to try a few more!

This was one spot I especially wanted to shoot, and I'm just amazed that it came out in the end! I thought the running water and stuff would be a problem - I'm obsessed with panoramic pictures, now

This is the compilation of 54 pictures, in four passes up and down - I would have gone further, but there was a tree blocking most of the interesting bits (not to mention, I was afraid I'd fall in the creek, along with my camera )

If I would have printed it out as it was, it would be 65 inches long (almost 5 and a half feet, or 1.6 meters)

I like this one. Not much done in post except to brighten up a few areas where the plants looked brown-ish or really washed out.

Mini Planet - Bloody Corners

Since this panoramic contest started, I figured I would probably submit another mini planet, and here it is

This was shot in Ann Arbor Michigan, at a place known as "Bloody Corners" due to the bright red pillar that you can see here. So I shot a 360 degree horizontal panoramic, going about 80 degrees vertical. Then I did some Photoshop work to turn it into a mini planet.

I'm sure you've all have seen these before, but my first mini planet was done back in 2004, which is about 2 years before I can see any other type of mini planet on the internet. Did I come up with this on my own? I don't really know. But I like to think I did

Anyway, this shot is rather cool, to me. I like the buildings in here, and that's a pretty hard thing to do with these mini planets. I spent a good 20 hours or so (which is about twice as long as normal), adjusting this to look right. The Bloody Corners building was rather hard to get right, since the panorama image wasn't quite aligned right. But I managed to massage this to not have any breaks or hard edges, and to look pretty uniform.

So what do you guys think? I always appreciate any comments and critiques about these types of images, since I like to do them a lot

The Forest Path

So the other day, it was exceptionally foggy out close to the lake - the air was very warm, but there was a cold wind coming off of the lake, causing it to fog up! It was generally a cloudy day, but there was a lot of ambient light, hence the trees look so weird from below. I dunno, I like how it all turned out in the end

The fog dissipated pretty regularly, because it was really only there when the wind picked up, but we did manage to get some amazing pictures none-the-less, including this one, which was rather fun!

This is a (very steep and slippery) path leading down to Lake Michigan (you can kind of make out the waves if you look carefully), surrounded by verdant new growth~

This is actually the compilation of a series of 34 individual photos, that was put together using Photoshop's panoramic function. We shot them in three columns, going up, with the camera on a tripod.

To give you an idea, this is what it looks like without the cropping and whatnot:

It took about 45 minutes to compile (and another 25 just to save the PSD file ) and then required some tweaking to get the colors to be as close to reality as I could manage! And, the file wound up as something like 18,000 pixels wide, too… a little insane, but so cool!

Anywho, I hope you like it, and I think I'm off to try my hand at another one or two of these just for the heck of it

You dont need any special camera to take a 360/180 degree picture a simple point and shoot will do just fine!
Im working on a writen tutorial at the moment. However I have noticed an amazing deviant artist has a pretty well documented tutorial on his page this is one of his very interesting pieces...and you will find the link to the tutorial on that page .......I would love to climb that tree to the top of its world
I tried not to edit this much in photoshop I kinda liked the mix match sky but would love comments on how it should be edited! Im still learning about photoshop and will take ANY and All advice
