I had a clear concept and name in my mind before start working on my entry for the previous Fotolia contest. [link] This time is harder because the contest rule is clearer that only stock images from Fotolia / StockProject [and my own images which I don't have] can be used. I had to look all over the images there first to get an idea. And everything of this work started from the crane.

Prison break

I thought that the absurdity of the elements we had to choose from required a comical approach, and I thought a good old slapstick comedy situation would work well here, with a classic prison break attempt.

Things seemed to go pretty well, oh but was it an unfortunate miscalculation, or was it intentional on Panda's part that our heros' tunnel to freedom led up to the kitchen?

Oh yeah, and if anyone wonders, this all digitally painted, no photomanipulation. All done with Photoshop and wacom tablet.

Wrong device

This is my contribution for the contest.
I was really in a rush, because I started very late (two days ago).
This was done in Photoshop and Painter (mostly overpainted photos with some additional painted elements).
I made a photo of my kitchen and washing machine for this and also used the stock from this contest.
Working time was between 18 and 20 hours, I think.

The Fall of the Pieomancers

It was too late!

The Pie had been summoned, but the binding ritual had been disrupted. The remaining pieomancers scrambled as the ferocious technofairy brought its steed around for one last strike. Casting a ward that she knew would never hold, the last pieomancer felt her eyes fill with tears of remorse. Not for her own end, but for the Pie of terror that they had unleashed upon the world.

_{A Brief History of the Technofairy Empire

Technofairies used to be regular fairies until they successfully opened a portal between worlds and brought back an artifact - a miner's helmet.

After many decades of attempting to reverse engineer it, they succeeded, and learned to power it by attaching widgets to their wings and fluttering them real fast. The technique was later used to power a wide array of other interesting mechanisms, often adding magic into the mix.

The helmet, however, retained a spot of special importance and not only because of its historical value. Their command of light allowed the technofairies to tame the fearsome pandamoths, turning them into steeds that were quite intelligent and quick to obliterate targets marked by lightbeams.

The combination of technological prowess and swarms of critters that put Australia to shame guaranteed quick ascent to power and foundation of the Technofairy Empire. Nobody objected much as the technofairies took upon themselves the role of guardians of the lands, protecting them against invaders and, more importantly, against anyone who might take it upon themselves to open portals and try to bring through artifacts, such as miner helmets, sharp objects or giant pies.

And that's why you don't use bamboo for staves if you're into pieomancery - it attracts pandamoths and angry technofairies.}

I had fun with this. I had this cute fuzzy moth wandering around my room when the announcement about the contest hit my dA inbox and one thing sort of lead to another.

I used the slice of pie stock for the decorative elements on top of the pieomancers' staves (center and lower right), the helmet for technofairy's headdress (upper center) and the panda should be obvious.

Somewhere far away,... in a world of magic tales flowing out imagination into visual, three little Pandas - RED, SLICE, and GREEDY, were wandering the skies into their invincible flying pirate ship, "Pies Hunter".

After looting entirely an apparently abandoned island hiding the most precious treasure in the galaxy in that moment - an endless stack of hot pies with devastating aroma, - the three little pirates were preparing to leave with joy in eyes and "tasty joy" in their mouths.

...But how could they ever imagine how "troubling" and hard to keep would be their precious booty on the back home... Because they took ALL the favorite prey of the Pie Addicted Dragons, hardly looted from all the human villages around that day.

You can see the scene in the painting, frozen with magic of imagination. From this "still point of view" you can slide slowly back and forward in time, adding symbols of your own, to wave the whole story in your own vision you would enjoy to begin or to end ...

NOW, if you need few details whispered by the wind of this tale, here there are:

P A N D A H E R O E S :
One of them was the intelligent and always inventive Flight Master and Cannoneer of the ship - "RED" , called like that maybe because of always wearing his one eye red glasses. He does not talk at all, and only express himself by the color of the light he put on his head helmet : "green light"- means to be active and joyful every second,... "red light"- means he is scared to death and that will froze himself in place an entire day,... and yellow light means he is unpredictable and have the worse or the most genial ideas.

Another one of the three little pandas wandering the skies in seek of adventures and any kind of "tasty pies booty" , is the fierce Pirate Captain "SLICE". He is unbeatable in slicing pies with a frown eye, in "Lion parts" for him, and "little parts" for the rest. Also he behave ferocious as a true lion when it comes to share his "tasty slices" with anyone else, no matter who.

The third little hero, is Scout Chief Prospector "GREEDY". His name originate in his endless appetite for gathering all the "PIES treasures of the world" leaving nothing behind of what he "discover precious" for him and his companions. He is also the main reason for why the whole scene depicted is happening, for burdening with too much Pies the flying ship until the lowest speed.

D R A G O N S :
The Pie Addicted Dragons have one distinctive mark: they have hypnotizing Turquoise eyes! They are fierce looking and beautiful colored, but they have no flames or magic to spit. Their weakness are hot fresh Pies made by skilful humans. They dont eat flesh, dont steal domestic animals, but terrorize every village with Pie cooking aroma until they get what they want ...

Seyla, the pie delivery girl, didn't understand. Dealing with questionably radioactive pie-obsessed laserbeam shooting pandas was not listed in the job description.
The ambush was completely unforeseen, but she just knew something was up when the delivery address bore the words "Bamboo Caves"...

I used the stocks only from the asset pack, and then distorted and painted over it. Everything else were digitally painted.

This picture tells the story of a panda who bored with the routine of the show. He always hoping to run away. Someday, he saw a pie seller who wear a panda costume, and suddenly a plan to run away pop in his head! The panda strongly believes if he disguise as a pie seller and hijack the van, he can deceive the guard and sneak off easily.

I wanted something unusual picture. In the central the 3 main elements. (light bulb,panda and the pie in the light bulb)

The pie there in the light bulb and the panda cant eat it. So the Plans Gone Wrong.

I used asset pack pictures (panda,light bulb and pie). All the other picture elements are made by me, or they are from my own png files.
I made the trees, water, rainbow and the grass with Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS5.

Edge of the pizza mountain

My entry for the Plans Gone Wrong Contest

"The great journey to the edge of the pizza mountain." - a massive panda journey to the edge of the pizza world.

So, how this is plans gone wrong you ask?
If pandas start to chase pizzas for food and walk with sticks, which have lightbulbs screwed on top - then i think it's pretty much "plans gone wrong" for the nature. (and i don't even want to say anything about their natural environment)

Background is my old photo from Iceland, which i of course matte painted

I also used different images from the contest asset pack : panda, the light and the pizza.

This idea kind of came from a dream I had, and adapted for the contest.

The pandas are always following the pies, and I found that the reverse situation would be nice too.
Here is the result.
It was used in this picture just the cake, the panda and the light of the tender package, and some photoshop effects.

Two pandas that works as a pirate, stranded on an island. and they found the disused mine. They store supplies pie there that they robbed from the merchant ship pie.

but, it turns out one of them breaking the plan, before that time they plan to save all those pies.

My entry to the contest. I just made up a pointless story for this.

In a village there was a little rabbit girl who is very good at making pie. She usually went to the forbidden forest with a basket of pie alone. The evil noble spied on her house and saw that she brought back a little piece of gold each time she went to the forest. He ordered his troops to secretly follow her, and they finally reached a big house inside the forest. In front of the house there was mail box with a cute purple ribbon, so they thought this were a girl's house. The evil noble and his troops were even more affirmed about that when they heard the girl knocked the door and called out " Little Bunny, I've come. Open the door, plz !" They immediately came out and captured her along with her pie basket. Using her as a hostage and ordered "Little Bunny" to come out and give them all the gold. Well, "Little Bunny" came out right away. However, he wasn't really little and cute as his name and the ribbon on his mailbox suggested ...

I had the pandas played evil characters just as a matter of fact that pandas are indeed dangerous animals in real life. They are not cute as they looked. So, watch out !

The Wanted Pie Bandit

This was most definitely a fun contest to create art for. I also use Fotolia for all my stock art when needed.

The background was a stock image from Fotolia I purchased.

The wanted sign and flag on the castle were rendered in 3DS Max (custom made objects by me)

The smoke and fire are frames from multiple movies gathered from the Video Copilot action essentials pack.

I hardly did any photomanipulation here.
I clipped and rearranged one of the free stock photos from the and used that as a reference, but I mainly painted everything here. The lineart was done by hand.
I might do another version, or not. I was considering to smudge the value shading and blend them, but I kinda liked it rough

.The theme "Plans gone wrong" targets the last disasters we saw
.those as the atomic disaster in japan or the disaster at the gulf of mexico
.the white cake and the broken lamp sum up for the failure to care for the supply of necessary goods and services and even electricity

.The panda is representative of the erosion of our planet. Despite the copious supply of bamboo, the Panda is not understood by our acting upon our world to survive. The plan to balance the world for long periods in accordance went wrong!

Pie World: Plans Gone Wrong

In the deepest deeps of the galaxy there was a strange world, flat as a pie, resting on the back of a giant panda, lighted by a Great Light Bulb: Pie World. Its mountains looked like a pie topping, its edges were covered by giant waterfalls and its continents were the home of the people of Pie World. There was a prophecy that one day the light would fade and lead to the end of the world. But the prediction had fallen into oblivion...

Plans Gone Wrong
Pie World was wrapped in Darkness. The warm light from the Great Light Bulb that had been glowing for aeons was now getting dimmer and dimmer. Pie World was dying.

The Council of Elders decided to send a specialist who should fix whatever was broken and bring back the light. They chose Gem, a young girl who was the best mechanic Pie World had ever seen. She was a great talent who could fix everything, even if she had never seen it before.

Gem went on the dangerous mission to save her world. She climbed the giant ladder built by the ancestors. It hadn´t been in use for centuries. When she got closer to the Great Light Bulb, Gem saw the small meteor stuck in the bulb. It had broken the glass and it was the reason why the light got dimmer and dimmer.

"I can fix it", Gem thought. She hurried up to reach the broken light bulb as fast as she could.

And then it happened. Gem felt a vibration rocking the ladder. She screamed, she lost grip and as the ladder broke she had that heartbreaking certainty that the plans to save her world had gone terribly wrong...

How about "Mad panda scientist" and his teleportation test gone wrong?
Poor "Test panda" - of him remained only shoes, surprised brain and - what's this? A Pie? Where did this came from?
Another dimension?

This is the tale of a Panda living on his own deep in the woods, he is said to be older than the trees of his forest and obtaining more knowledge than the wind that travels his lands. being in perfect harmony with himself and his environment the "Master of Fireflies" is working in his bakery day by day, taking care of his garden and doing Yoga following a code only he knows.

The local folk of the villages nearby know him by the simple name Bao, throughout the world the echoes of his masterpieces can be heard, his Pie is said to be a cure to all disease, giving strength to body and spirit alike.

Not much is known about his Recipies as he is guarding them just as he protects his forest, but there is rumor that the fireflies he lives in peace with are part of it. In his place, or shop as some might call it he uses an old lightbulb to nourish the fireflies, he created a recipe only for them to be tasted, in return they light his shop at night and they do shine very bright, as it is their time to pass they allow Bao to use their bodies (or part of it) as his ingredient, this is what a Visitor witnessed, but only the old Panda will ever know for sure.

It is a magical place of calmness and piece hardly ever to be disturbed. There is one known incidence though where this quiet place has seen the rage of the master.

As the voice of Bao's work was heard all over the world many travelled to search his assistance, guidance and advice, a few persons though tried to get hold of his secrets- they all came to regret it.
One day a gorilla was sent to the old Panda, the owner of a large fastfood franchise seeked to get hold of Bao's secret recipies and sell them to the world. It was not the fact that a person wanted to own what was his but the way he was asked for. In a formal letter brought in by the Vice President himself he was meant to be lured by goods only a real fool will seek "power, all the money to imagine, gold, villas at the sea, dinners with royal families and as many women he could wish for".
The wrath Bao felt facing this disrespectful and foolish offer made him sick, how could someone believe the old master would fall for such meaningless nonsense.
In his long life he never had experienced such a disgusting treatment, he would not play according to those monkey fools plans!
"You can be the richest man in the world!" - the monkey said
"I AM! the richest man in the world, I posess happiness that is beyond your tiny imagination!"
"Isn't it lonely here in those woods? think of all the women you can be with, every day and every night, don't you wish to hold someone in your arms at night? I will only need your Pie and everything can be yours" the gorilla Said.
The Strike of Baos Fist kept him from going.
"You want my Pie? You can have it!" he yelled as he threw the only pie created that day into the monkeys face.
"Consider my answer being a no!- get out of my sight and never dare to return- tell your boss i am not interested in anything he pretends to be great". calmly he added
"let me return to my work now- I have a new pie to bake."

Hello everyone
I hope you enjoy my work for the contest, it was imense fun to create and i learned alot of new things
I basically worked 18 hours from this morning to finish and and am more than glad to call it a day now, I hope you enjoy my little story about bao, the fireflies, his legendary pies and the intruder that should not have come to pay him a visit.

The Whole piece is basically built from flat textures that i painted and lighted manually, which i have never ever done before and found very challenging, i learned alot about masking, compositing, and coloring- i definately won with the creation of this piece and am proud of what i have done today.

PS CS5 and my trusty old wacom bamboo one all the way, the pen broke this afternoon but hey- i might win a new one

"Lights of Massive Destruction" for the plans gone wrong Contest!

I didn't choose a funny theme, I picked the Global Warming problem for the piece!
There you can see a future where everyone keeps using incandescent light bulbs instead of enegy saving bulbs...and global warming reaches a critical stage...rivers will dry out, food supply will be shorter, and trees wont grow, so animals will starve...

I used the panda, the bulb and the pie (there are burried in the sand, like the few remains of food available) of the asset pack...

I made a short story/poem, to go along with this pic:

I have a pet panda.
It was a birthday present from my parents when I was ten.
I call him Mr. Checkers -- he is my best friend.

Time sure flies so fast...
It's been what? ...um, five years since I left...
I miss Mr. Checkers... I wanna hug him so tight.
I promised that I'd go home, but my work always stops me from catching that last flight.

Finally, I made it back after sixteen more weeks.
I noticed it was quiet inside, so I took a peek.
I found Mr. Checkers on the dusty floor, lying.
Why wasn't he moving... breathing... if only he was sleeping?

I'm sorry, Mr. Checkers. I shouldn't have left you home...
I'm back, please open your eyes... don't leave me on my own.

I wanted to do something different, so I tried to do an emotional approach to the theme.
