I love the heck out of the Draw This Again meme so seeing it as an actual contest I figured I had to do something.

I dont really have a lot of old works in my gallery from before 6 years ago as I deleted most of the old stuff from before then lol.

I've had so much fun looking at all the entries for this contest, that's been it's own prize~

And if there's one thing I've noticed on everyone's entries is that inevitably some people will like the before picture more than the after. It's cool if you like the old style more, but like a river, artists only flow forward so there's no going back there for me. Sorry!

Despite the deletion of the picture, I reupload it, because the dA staff had given me no clear answer as to why a simple portrait is considered Hate Art.

In case that the admins will find the re-upload of the artwork a bannable offense, I'm ready to engage in CONSTRUCTIVE discussion of why it is so horrible.

And yes, I consider Breivik a hero and share his viewpoint on what he did. So what? It's my opinion, and you can't guess it by artwork alone. I can consider a hero anyone who I want - that doesn't qualify as hate speech either.

He called himself a Knight Templar, so that's the naming of the pic.

This is sort of an unorthodox dedication to 9th of May and my country in general.

Whils being patriotic, I'm not at all hurray-patriotic. I love Russia not for the golden filligree of her culture and shit. No. I love my country for all the things the western - and eastern - cultures deem us the epitome of evil.

Knowing english and using internet allows one to gather a big massive of opinions, and I do know how the western media and history portrays my country and my people. It's funny in a sense that we russians are unlucky to be lilly-white.
Hating on non-whites for their culture or life-style is deemed bad and racist. Hating on yourself is absurd. So Russia had become this salvating island where the tabooes doesn't work. We're white, and therefore guilty of all that the other whites try to wash off.
Occupation, repression, genocide.

This major misunderstanind in the midst of the western civilization, at least it's modern variant, possibly lies in the fact - and this is what I depicted - that we're a warrior nation. Our history is a string of wars, fight for survival, betrayals and not very successful attempts at building a peaceful, if opportunistic society in the veing of western european ones. That's why we were usually late to the happy tiems - when western europeans had their civilized inner conflicts and regulated war, we were dying and fighting - with and by the hands of enemies outer and inner.
Perhaps it's the reason why we suck at helping ourselves at times of peace but unite when war is about.

That's the paradox of the national character.

Who ever comes here - dies here. It's a burial ground, in the end.

So I illustrated that. If we're deemed the ultimate evil on Earth - we might well be it. No matter how much time Russia would be declared broken apart, it's population dying out, it's defenses shut down - we'll rise again. It happened many, many times.
Not like a phoenix, none of that romantical crap. Rise like a fucking zombie to lay waste to whoever thinks that they've won and overcome us.

Only we had created the Dead Hand, the automatized system of nuclear revenge strike, that would obliterate the enemy even if the whole country becomes a lifeless wasteland. If there's no one alive here - the dead will fight and ensure that we'll be avenged.

That's what I salute to - to our russian inability to be merciful both to our foes and to ourselves.

That's the driving spirit. I'm proud of my country's history and I'm proud to live in what is considered to be a corrupted hellhole. Because in the end, it's a challenge.
And challenges make worthy people.

A knight riding his hound steed chances upon the fabled Slumbering Tyrant as he emerges from his thousand-year dormant state.

This one was tough for me, still not 100% satisfied with it, but with the help of my friends, it's definitely come a long way. I'm actually proudest of the subtle details on the tower, so zoom in and turn up your brightness!

Femto - Griffith Reborn

Hail Femto, one of the demi-god from the God-Hand team. This is a fan art of the popular japanese comic called Berserk. I was reading stuffs about demons, and suddenly I remembered about Femto, thus I couldn't surpress my inner desire to paint him. As usual, I tried to do a slight variation from the original design but still remain recognizable, I guess it must be the helmet hehe. I thought of depicting the scene where he was just born from the egg, that's why you can see a shadow of the egg in the pic, at the bottom of his feet on the right side. Then there were also a multitude of demons on that scene, even the landscape itself warped and turn demonic.

So I've been breaking out of my comfort zone a lot this semester. Oil painting, editorial illustration, comics, poster design, my entire media class... A lot of things I'm not used to doing. I've also been working on simplifying my compositions, using more large graphic shapes and better use of space. And while a lot of that hasnt been put up here (yet at least), I definitely feel I'm learning a lot from it. But every now and then, I just need to do something that is completely and entirely....me.

And thus, this painting. Epic fantasy. Golden lighting. Jagged rock formations. Clouds in abundance. Hey, cant knock me for being inconsistent, right? It started out as a thumbnail for a Way of Kings book cover (I ended up doing Mistborn instead), but I finished it out in my free time a little differently.

I will also be submitting this toward the Train Your Brain Contest. c:

Again its Femto, with Zodd the furry beast. I feel there is much improvement in this piece compared to the last, for one, it feels more creepy, evil and enigmatic, it is not overcrowded as well. This image is my take on Kentaro Miura's "berserk" tankabon/manga issue 34, and I think I did the picture justice. Femto design is based on my previous Femto art which can be found here [link]

Femto's pose was also changed a bit to convey action and some movement, but he is usually calm and poised, so there's a limit to what i can pose him. Zodd is pretty much the same, no change in overall design except for him showing some fangs to make him more ferocious, I also modified the fangs, the ones in manga are not the same. This is actually a remake of my first digital painting, as a way to demonstrate how much I have improved over the last nine months thanks to feedback, friends, and a lot of hard work. It's not the fairest comparison since the former was done in an hour as opposed to this one which took around 6 hours (damn details in the rocks take forever). I think that at the time of the old one, I had just been introduced to the concept of "values", just to show you how far behind I was on any sort of art education...

Almost exactly 4 years of improvement.

I've always been really proud of the 2008 portrait, as it was the first proper portrait I ever drew. Since then, I've only really practiced portraiture in the past year or so, and I've moved from graphite to Photoshop .

Nice to think I've improved even a little - but there's still so far to go!

There lies a dark side in the world of the fairie, others seldom see. And in that twilight where the Unseelie dance, darker things there be.

The Dark Wood lies along the Gnarl mountains between Sarago bay and the town of Silverspurr. It is a haunted forest full of trolls, Orcs, Goblins and ancient Treants twisted by foul magic and dark spirits roam restless.

The Sibyl is a project I am currently starting development on where the end product with actually be a written novel. I do not want to give very much away, but I can tell you these are the four main characters (Aron, Tahlia, Tzalmon, and Darrach). This is a book about prophecy, corrupt politics, and of course, destined love. This Project is going to really tax my patience. Writing a book, let alone a book series, is not easy. However, since I teach character development at the Art Institute and I am a graduate student currently (I am only 24 people), this is something I am passionate about. I want to show people that creating with purpose gives so much more meaning to a work more than just designing to design.

This is character art for the book. Beyond writing it I am doing a series of character art and the book cover.

I liked to play Ragnarok Online when I was young so I drew mostly my favorite avatar, my knight. ...Yeah, I was pretty proud of this picture in 2005 -- oh lordy lordy.

I wanted to redraw her in how I would draw her now. I kind of wanted to keep her armor plain, but I totally realize from 2005's design -- like what kind of knight wears nothing to protect their torso in battle lol. CHANGED IT ALL, GOT TIRED OF DRAWING AFTER HIP AREA, ETC. GOTTA WORK ON FLOWERS, SCRIBBLES A TO-IMPROVE LIST

So yeah! *V*....

WHY IS SHE POINTING DOWN ALL DERP.

I have to pay more attention to geometric details/depth though v x v...

I really have improved since I first came here.
-Drawing structure: Smoother lines and more solid bodies.
-Shading: I can actually determine where the light source is.
-Coloring: Ground and characters don't look too bright compared to the night sky.

Train your Brain (The Art Department competition) 3rd place winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This guy is based off the star nosed mole. The idea is that they dig around the landscape creating the mountainous area and have mushrooms and seeds growing off them which get dispersed everywhere. They are hunted for their claws and have nearly been brought to extinction. This is a scene of a group of would be mercenaries trying to take one down and getting more than they bargained for.

Something of a self portrait. I have always wanted to be a good man and "knight," in service of good and God. However, I often fail quite miserably in myself. In certain moments of realization, I feel terrible and unworthy - hence the broken sword. I also know a little of personal hardship - the knight being beat up.

However, in those times, Christ is my great Prince and Protector. I must have Him and turn to Him - He has promised His help and forgiveness to those who call on and trust in Him.

Back in Twenty-Ought Nine, I posted "Cream and Cosmo: A Light Snack Colored," [link] . It was inspired by the works of ~canime, *SpookyElk and ~Limpurtikles and I still like the idea today.

Fast forward to the (so far) apocalypse-free 2012, I uploaded "Cosmo and Cream: A Healthy Snack" [link] . While it isn't a complete remake of the original picture, it's as close to it as I can get without copyright infringing myself. While not my favorite drawing, I can't argue that this is hands-down my best...for now!

Man, I can remember working on that first picture so long ago. I won't bore you with the details, but I was working with little to no knowledge of graphic arts and a Photoshop knock-off. Now, I know about shading and stuff and have the real Photoshop and Illustrator! I'm moving on up...I guess.

Anywho, I'd like to thank ~canime, *SpookyElk and ~Limpurtikles for serving as my unwitting influences, ~Nightflash1 for requesting I rework a simple picture that was so badly in need of improvement and ~Bampire for starting this "Before-After" phenomenon (get the original "Before-After" template here, [link] .

For craps and giggles, I'm bringing back Ozz-the-Wanderer Challenge! If you think you can draw either of these pictures better than I did, bring it on! Don't ask permission, just layeth the smackdown and give me a link to your rendition! I'll be waiting...

My entry to the illustration category of the Train Your Brain Contest. Digital oil on canvas (Art Rage).

This is Homer's Iliad in SimAnt style. The red ants have defeated the black ants and they're taking the black knight piece back into their lair as the reward. They're in for a little surprise once the night begins.

3 days, lot's of thumbs, studying perspective and lighting (totally inspired by *Tohad) and looking at dozens of photos of ants, flower pots and random people's backyards. You can see the WIPs here: [link]

Concept for Plushy Knight, a surreal game about a sweet but adventurous girl named Gemma, and her Teddy Bear in shining armor, Plushy Knight, who must find their way out of a mysterious but familiar place. Hidden in the back there is the first boss of our game, Chiron, who is a Memory Monger. The beast is collecting Gemma's memories and turning them into something more sinister. So, I decided to enter DeviantArt's "Draw This Again" challenge!!

I decided to re-draw a picture I drew of my characters Victoria and Isaiah that I drew in the summer of 2010. I was really proud of that drawing. I spent a long time on it, and made a ton of corrections! But, you can't stand in the way of progress!

So, I present the re-draw! I spent about 10 or so hours on it in Photoshop, re-sketching, inking, coloring, shading, highlighting and adding effects! And it turned out so nicely! I may add a lens glare later on, but it all depends. I really like how it looks right now!

So, there you go, I've been meaning to do for a very long time, but now that there is contest involved, it gave me motivation. I may not win, but I'm so proud of how far I've come!

A Conversation and a Corpse

This is my submission for the Crossover Contest.

Originally, I had planned an Avengers/Transformers crossover. Can you tell? Neither can I. It went from Avengers/Transformers (specifically Decepticons) to a Batman/Tranformers (with Optimus) idea. But something just didn't click, and I kept mulling it over. Eventually, this occurred to me.

I tried to keep the Batman continuity non-specific, so the reader could choose which one they wished to imagine. The Nolan movies might be hard however, since I used Harvey, and he just wasn't around long in "The Dark Knight." For anyone who's curious, my favorite Batman continuity (and, yes, the one I pictured as I wrote this) is Batman, the Animated Series.

If you haven't read any of Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels, I highly recommend that you do. They are mind-blowing. Be forewarned, however, they are definitely for mature audiences only. Also, the art in the first graphic novel is not my favorite.

Gaiman's Death is my quite possible my favorite character of all time. Words can't describe her. I hope I did her justice. Here's a picture of her, from when she appeared in a crossover with Action Comics (Lex Luthor met her in that one): [link]

This is my character Inuko. He is a seventeen year old Dragon Knight who had died protecting his village, and he was then turned into a phantom (He is not a ghost! He doesn't remember his past at first but he later finds out that he is the prince of the Canine Kingdom and that his kingdom fell to the evil emporor. His real name is Keith Everheart.
I drew the first drawing when I was 11 or 12 and I didn't really know how to draw boys back then.
I had just recently the newer pic of him and I colored it with color pencil. I think I have improved alot over the years. (BTW I'm 15 years old now)
