First off, lemme chime in, along with everyone else and their mom, that the new Tomb Raider is an amazing work of art. You can clearly tell that Crystal Dynamics poured their heart and soul into this labor of love. It's been a while since I've played something this good; if you haven't played it yet, go play it now!

So yeah, this has been one long-ass month of staying up til 2~4am most nights to work on this after I get out of work. I lost track of how many hours it took, but my slow ass took over 100 hours to work and rework the pose, angle, background, lighting, and details and I still feel like I could keep working on this for another week or more. In the end though, I'm really happy with the result; definitely one of my best works and hopefully a worthy homage to the awesomeness of the new Lara.

I tried to make the literal theme of ascension cool-looking (Lara fearlessly rock climbing in a beautiful/dangerous environment) while keeping the figurative theme of ascension subtle (Lara's struggle through Hell to reach salvation above) so that it wouldn't come off hammy. I also wanted to prominently feature the storm in the background because it played such an important role in the story, as well as to add an overall sense of impending doom/urgency to the image.

Oh, and btw, the climbing axe: most awesome piece of equipment ever.

Got Me Hooked

It's been a long, long time since I've submitted anything, but when I saw this contest, I knew I had to enter it for my wonderful girlfriend --she's the inspiration behind the work. She loves Dr. Pepper and actually got me hooked on it, hence the title. Thanks, Hunny Bunny.

About the work itself: I've always admired well done graffiti artwork and wanted to try my hand at rendering something done in that visual style. This contest was a great opportunity to experiment with it and try to incorporate it into my art style. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Anyhow, hope you kiddos dig it.

Well as usual, I'm submitting yet another contest entry really close to the deadline. This time it's for the Deviantwear Design Battle I took a similar approach I used in the Disinfo pic since the rules said you were limited to six colors (I used three: dark gray, white and red). The shirt color itself is Heather Black.

[added] Fuuuuug, I just read the fine print in the rules and it says that the design can't exceed 10"x12". =/ I'll go back and see if I can resubmit the image in a design that still looks cool.

[edit] Made the image a tad smaller to conform to the 10"x12" design limitation.

EDIT: I just wanted to thank all of you who have understood the meaning behind this piece and to clarify to all. The baby in the picture is my son, because of complications we had to face the very horrifying possibility he may have never been born and at birth required 3 full blood swap transfusions to save his life. He is a miracle and I appreciate every moment he is with me. I wanted this artwork to be understood and I am truly sorry to anyone that is hurt by this.
I wanted to create something which I hope although disturbing is also viewed with understanding. This piece is about smoking, but I hope can be viewed in a far wider context. In all things we do or believe in life there is a price to be paid, both personally and to those we spend our lives with. That price could be as simple as losing sleep through worry, or far, far worse. It is the understanding that everything we do effects ourselves and those around us that allows change. A change of perspective, of belief or in this case habit. Nothing compares to the miracle of bringing life into this world and the startling realisation of the responsibilities that is put upon your shoulders. It is a moment I will never forget and will cherish forever. It is also the moment I realised I had to do everything in my power to protect this life, to nurture him and watch him grow. That moment was very nearly taken away from me and that would have been a loss I could not dare dream to bear. This is why I created this piece, my nightmare made real allows me to understand how precious life is and I hope you can too.

And this is my second entry, quite innocent if you ask me It was actually my father's idea to put the blood transfusion thingy (sorry, don't know how it's called in english) And it's not supposed to be connected to anything, seeing as I didn't want Fella to have a shot for Halloween

The costume is not as extravagant as the Pirate one, but I think his cloak is quite cute! Even my mom thinks so! I really regret not having enough time to do more drawings, but I'm happy with my results!!
