..I well, I thought I didn't have time for one more, and I thought the previous submission would be my last,
but I kept getting kicked of the computer so I just sat down and painted this.

XD So in the end I did submit three entries.

This one was the only one painted traditionally with watercolours. And then it got butchered by my scanner.
<3 I used a lovely metalic gold brush for the yellow-looking aura.

Cosmic Flow

**This is not fluttershy - It's not fluttershy inspired either. I drew it before I even started watching the show. So please avoid those comments, and also don't send requests to submit it to My Little Pony groups xD lol

The colors came together this way because that's what looked best to me against the blue and with the colors I wanted to add into the water
And the imagery doesn't even make sense for fluttershy anyway

She was a fish who found this cosmic plug, and was granted her wish to become human~
Since the plug is pulled, the cosmic flow has been disrupted, so you have things like water flowing all around and fish swimming in and out of water as they please.

I think she was a yellow fish with stripes, so I tried to reflect that a bit with her clothing.
Unless I can come up with something more unique, her name will be Sakana because it's fitting and sounds cute :3

Overall this is finished, but I may continue to make some minor adjustments here and there...
It's just altogether a crazy picture~ I took the opportunity to try drawing lots of fish, since I can't remember ever having drawn fish before.

James & The Giant Peach contest
Every imaginary world is a totally twisted version of the real world. I personally love looking at the real world in a bright way. So... that's where I would escape... even if I prefer facing my problems than running from reality.

It's my first complete background. All the other backgrounds I've done so far were either speedpaintings, either half-assed-because-I-didn't-know-how-to draw. (I still don't know how to draw backgrounds though !)
And from far my biggest drawing.
And probably the drawing that took me the longest time to draw.
And also my, best, illustration, ever.

I've never been so satisfied by a drawing in my life. I thought my level was being worse and worse because my colored sketch commission (that weren't great from the start...) were becoming worse and worse, but it looks like I'm wrong.

It looks like I'm becoming more patient, and that I use less and less "helping" tools like brightness&contrasts/color balance retouches, or things like that. Maybe I'm improving AND growing up.

Anyway... I don't know if you'll understand the meaning of this sentence but :

Good vs. Evil

For the Wacom/DeviantArt.com competition: Bring your Vision to Life- Good vs. Evil

The idea:
What is good and what is evil? This painting is a mix of several symbolic features that stand for Good or Evil or sometimes, depending on where in the world one is, both.
The Dragon/Serpent is a symbol of evil in many western cultures, even though the snake stand for something inherently good in many cases (Askleipos and healing for instance). In the Eastern parts of Asia the Dragon is mostly something good though, standing for balance.

The knight, something good in many ways according to many historians, but also the focus of oppression in Europe. Moving to the Holy land, the Knights templar where considered the scourge of the earh, there to steal Gods land away from his chosen people, whereas in Europe they where bringing God back to the land.
The Teutonic helmet, standing for rampage, but at the same time the order that the Teuton brought to Europe.
The scimitar, standing for the Muslim world, nowadays quite often scoffed at or seen as pure evil, whereas Islam quite clearly is the most tolerant of the Abrahamitic religions and thus would be something good.
There are a multitude of little items that can be found like this in the painting, and I have spent a lot of time thinking them through as I painted them in.

Even the lighting of the painting is meant to be a contrast. The warm and comforting red and yellow is on the left side (traditionally the Evil side) and also represents the Hell that exist in judeo-christian mythologies. Blue and cool, cold and uncaring colours, but at the same time quite often seen as Good colours.

I hope you will enjoy my painting. As far as I have understood the rules of the competition, the entry that receives the most between the 19th of may and the 29th of may will win the Deviantart community-prize. I have honestly no idea if it will harm me or wether I will gain from getting a huge amount of 's before the 19th, but the most important part for me is that my art is appreciated even though I am in dire need of a new tablet.

I have never had the fortune to have a Wacom tablet. It would be a great thing to win one through this competition, especially since my own tablet is singing it's last tune and sometimes is just really acting up.

EDIT:
So, didn't win the competition, managed to get to the semi-finalist-stage though.

I am very grateful for that as it has brought a lot of new watchers to my gallery.

A bit disappointed in the winners, the community-award was great, the number three winner was unique and inventive but number two and one?!
Seriously, number one is a masterpiece in digital fuzziness. I would have expected a piece of art where you at least can see what's in the piece and number two has what to do with good and evil?
end-rant.

Really odd work?

Only used 1 brush for this one, and the dregs of a watercolor set I'd had since elementary school. I need to buy some new supplies x_X

It's been 5 years since I made the original piece and I'm really quite proud of how far I've come since the age of 15 on my silly little laptop with no tablet...Even if I still do have an unhealthy obsession with girls with ridiculously colourful hair. TROUBLING BOOTY

Somewhere far away,... in a world of magic tales flowing out imagination into visual, three little Pandas - RED, SLICE, and GREEDY, were wandering the skies into their invincible flying pirate ship, "Pies Hunter".

After looting entirely an apparently abandoned island hiding the most precious treasure in the galaxy in that moment - an endless stack of hot pies with devastating aroma, - the three little pirates were preparing to leave with joy in eyes and "tasty joy" in their mouths.

...But how could they ever imagine how "troubling" and hard to keep would be their precious booty on the back home... Because they took ALL the favorite prey of the Pie Addicted Dragons, hardly looted from all the human villages around that day.

You can see the scene in the painting, frozen with magic of imagination. From this "still point of view" you can slide slowly back and forward in time, adding symbols of your own, to wave the whole story in your own vision you would enjoy to begin or to end ...

NOW, if you need few details whispered by the wind of this tale, here there are:

P A N D A H E R O E S :
One of them was the intelligent and always inventive Flight Master and Cannoneer of the ship - "RED" , called like that maybe because of always wearing his one eye red glasses. He does not talk at all, and only express himself by the color of the light he put on his head helmet : "green light"- means to be active and joyful every second,... "red light"- means he is scared to death and that will froze himself in place an entire day,... and yellow light means he is unpredictable and have the worse or the most genial ideas.

Another one of the three little pandas wandering the skies in seek of adventures and any kind of "tasty pies booty" , is the fierce Pirate Captain "SLICE". He is unbeatable in slicing pies with a frown eye, in "Lion parts" for him, and "little parts" for the rest. Also he behave ferocious as a true lion when it comes to share his "tasty slices" with anyone else, no matter who.

The third little hero, is Scout Chief Prospector "GREEDY". His name originate in his endless appetite for gathering all the "PIES treasures of the world" leaving nothing behind of what he "discover precious" for him and his companions. He is also the main reason for why the whole scene depicted is happening, for burdening with too much Pies the flying ship until the lowest speed.

D R A G O N S :
The Pie Addicted Dragons have one distinctive mark: they have hypnotizing Turquoise eyes! They are fierce looking and beautiful colored, but they have no flames or magic to spit. Their weakness are hot fresh Pies made by skilful humans. They dont eat flesh, dont steal domestic animals, but terrorize every village with Pie cooking aroma until they get what they want ...

Oh man spring is here! And so are all those dandelion shots you've been seeing on dA lately I'm sure you're sick of them, but I figured I'd have a go at it anyway. Not too bad for my second attempt I'd say
I used the "left hand brace" technique, in which you hold the subject in your left hand, holding the camera with your right hand and bracing it on your left wrist. This essentially "bonds" the subject and the camera to the same plane, which reduces blur caused by camera shake. I used digital macro mode, white balance set to cloud, and dropped the exposure by about 1/3 step to prevent loss of detail on the bright dandelion head.

Triss Merigold

The idea of this image was to create a typical “witcher card”, those you can get when you have a special time with one of the girls. The woman shown on this card is Triss Merigold, one of my favorite female characters in the game which is mainly because of her strength, majesty and inscrutable character. I think this is perfectly shown in her face expression. Very wicked.

For those who wonder what it’s intending to show: I tried to catch the moment when the viewer (Geralt) draws the curtain and finds her on her bed waiting for him. I wanted it to be as realistic and convincing as possible.

Pixie's Dreamiorama

Heyy!

Woow... this was probably the most time-consuming project I ever did. But at the same time it was soo much fun and I realized how much I missed doing pieces of handicraft! (Which I used to do A LOT when I was younger.. ^^) This took about 35+ hrs in total, all the detail was killing me! xD But I am really happy with the result, it looks much better in reality, but I hope the photos portrait my idea and concept in a good way! ^^

About the idea for the diorama:

When I think of autumn the first thing, that comes to my mind, is that dreamy atmosphere autumn brings along. I love the feeling of sitting in a park and just enjoying the beautiful colorful trees and the rays of sun bathing the whole scenery in twilight. And the best thing is, if you can enjoy this atmosphere with a person you love, may it be a friend, a family member or your lover! ^^ People (and also animals ) seem to get closer together, as it gets colder outside. That's what the two people on the bench and also the fawn and it's mother are standing for. I also really love pavillons, they have that special kinda romantic appeal! So I placed the scene in one! I hope I succeeded in catching what autumn means and what it feels like for me! ^^

Techniqual stuff:

The shoebox measures 23cm x 34cm and is 13cm high (+ 13cm archway, so 26cm in total). It consists of solid carton.
The following materials were used for the other items in the box:
Trees, bushes: Artificial moss (it doesn't rot), wire, goldspray
Bench: Solid stalks of straw, wire
Persons, animals, kite, pavillon: Solid black carton, transparent yellow paper
Underground: cut foam, synthetic turf glued on it (like used on model railways)
Little details (flowers, latern, mushroom, leaves etc.): Different materials

Everything is handcrafted except the little mushroom, the little leaves on the ground are also bought, but I painted them red and brown to fit the autumn-theme. The little chestnuts are made of styrofoam painted with brown watercolors. Everything is glued/fixed with wire, so its safe for transport!

I am reeally excited how you like my diorama (or Dreamiorama xD).. I went to soo many different stores to get all the stuff and I spent so much work to get this done while also having an eye on my little daughter (she tried to destroy the diorama several times... haha ^^). I really hope all the work was worth it, if I won something, I would probably freak out..

I would be veeery happy about comments, favs and meaningful feedback! Without your support I would be nothing!

Okami Amaterasu - Bloom

Originally for the Okami contest. I'm slightly disappointed with the winners that the DA staff picked -_-.

I tried to show what Amaterasu's Bloom might look like after the brush technique. Dead land suddenly sprouts grass where she stands (and glowing yellow Praise ) and the celestial cherry blossom petals glow and start becoming part of the tree from the top. The clean water ebbs towards the tree as well.

I added in the kanji because I thought the white border too plain. Read from top down:

shinrai (trust)
Satsugaisha (slayer)

For the record, I don't actually know how to read or write kanji and just copied some things online, so my strokes may not make any sense .

I'm really inept with the sumi-e style, but I tried to add this "painted" feel with black "ink' by outlining a few things. For the ground texture, I skewed the parchment background provided in the resources pack. For the water, I layered the cloud/swirl parts of the same parchment background.

Safe Inside Myself II

Soooo the other day I was looking what could I "store" on my DeviantArt Gallery, and saw an awful load of things that were already hidden that I had done ages ago (even my first photomanipulation. What the hell was I thinking back then?). Lots of pencil colors and watercolors, almost all of them fantasy related (I was a huge Amy Brown fan back then. I think I still am in many ways). I even have an account, still open but no longer active in this gallery that I will not name, that is all fantasy. I opened that back in 2000 I think. God, time passes by, huh!

Anyway!

I was looking at this artwork and remembered how much I loved it back then and how much fun I had while doing it :thumb27308936: [link] .
It's just color pencils over a black cardboard, the scan doesn't make it any justice AT ALL. That was always in the back of my mind, so I decided to re do it, 2011 digital style. It was fairly fast, and I spent a little more that 10 hours of work. Fast and concise. I'm happy with the result. Hope you are too

Anyway, this is for the Our Yellow Alien contest organised by blackhex. I hope everyone understands what is going on in this comic.. I get the impression that it's a bit unclear. Kind of hard to guage, since I know what's supposed to be happening. I was trying to communicate the idea with minimal text.

Edit: Ok, had been debating long enough with myself over it. I'll submit it to the contest and see what might come out. Who knows.
I present: The reason why you didn't hear a lot from me in the last two weeks.

All traditional media like always. Basecolours with watercolour, after that coloured mostly with markers and pencils. Giving the final touches with a wet brush and a bit of white ink. And a bit of copics for the effects.

Colour after the idea of ~dredddlokk. I had more red and sunset-like tones in mind and he suggested cold blue and warm brown/yellow.

Working title in my mind had been "Fantasy vs. Reality".
And hey... I know who will win.

Process:
It all started when I saw that there was a challenge to prove the existance of Unicorns and Magic...
My friends know that I believe in Magic and Unicorns and Fairies and Elves and in all magical creatures! They have filled my life with joy and happiness since I was a little girl.

So I found a beautiful horse first and worked ours extracting the background and smudging the hair. Then I searched for a Unicorn Horn and changed it's shape a bit, and the color. I had the first background that would lead the landscape (the trees you see with leaves now, are the original trees in the first background). The other backgrounds were combined to provide light (a lot of them was masked), and the one with the trees I loved to add the magical forest of legends.

I enhanced colors with new layers and painting over them, using Gaussian Blur and Screen properties.

Then I added the water and masked everything but the pond you see.

Then I placed the flowers to the left, used one leaf to create all the leaves to the left and then started working with very tiny parts of the purchased flower to create the branches to the right.

The tools I used the most were to change colors (color balance and Hue) and exposure. Even yellow flowers were used (changing the hue).

The lotus were extracted and new flowers were placed, removing the others with the clone tool.

At the beginning I had a lady watching the scene, but I finally removed it. Some other details were also changed.

In sum, I did not count how many layers I had on the work, but there were many (imagine only creating the leaves of the trees, flower by flower in little pieces! It's all threaded flowers!! And then, matching and balancing each ...

It was nice to get inspired again after such a long time without having any ideas to work on

Got Me Hooked

It's been a long, long time since I've submitted anything, but when I saw this contest, I knew I had to enter it for my wonderful girlfriend --she's the inspiration behind the work. She loves Dr. Pepper and actually got me hooked on it, hence the title. Thanks, Hunny Bunny.

About the work itself: I've always admired well done graffiti artwork and wanted to try my hand at rendering something done in that visual style. This contest was a great opportunity to experiment with it and try to incorporate it into my art style. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Myself, Claudia, as the White Queen from Alice in Wonderland.

(I would absolutely love to wear something like this; the costume, wig, makeup, contact lens, etc.)

Wow, first off, this painting took so long to complete. 20+ hours using Photoshop and I had a lot of fun with it.

I wanted to do something completely original. So I redesigned the entire look of the Queen, but stayed true to her eccentric personally. Sadistically plucking petals off her roses was just the thing to contrast her beautiful appearance. Alas, everyone is mad in Wonderland. So I played with that concept, giving her a feral stare with her yellow eyes and an overtly theatrical pose.

Bokeh
Cute how that word has spread across deviantart.
I been a fan of the art form for a long time, just not always get around to do one with drops.
Taken handheld in sunlight on a flower in my garden, out of 70 shots this is the one i like the most.

Used RAW here, since i hear so much good about it.
Must say it is good for some contrast adjustment indeed.
Contrast, slight color change, grain removal and crop for square.

Since some had comments on these earlier i just state it again, the light circles are Not added in photoshop, they are straight out of the camera. wikipedia.org has a good definition on Bokeh: [link]

Thats about it, any feedback and question is welcome and very appreciated.

Had to run out into the street and shoot before the next car came barreling my way. Took about 20 minutes to get the right moment! Certainly worth it, though. One of my favorite shots from this autumn.

I made a blue version of the render and although the lighting works better with that i decided to go with the yellow/beigey theme. Turned off shadows and did just a line render. Hopefully this adheres to the requirements

The concept for this painting changed a lot from the initial stages. I wanted to show how choice and perception affects everything. Me and Wesley and some guys were just chatting a while back about the environment and stuff like that and Wes mentioned that even though we're aware of what we are doing and are aware of all the changes that need to be done, we don't do it. How we always say the experts would figure it out, but the thing is, that the experts and scientists or whatever HAVE already figured out how to solve the problem and has been telling us what to do for so long. Stop burning fossil fuels, too much forest clearcutting, eat healthier, everything like that. We choose to keep doing the things we do and if we don't change ourselves, then there won't be a miracle solution to our problems until we get pushed to the very edge of the cliff.

Perception, is our point of view, how we view the things around us. In this painting I wanted to show the dual aspects of perception. do you perceive the monsters to be the "bad" guys hunting the innocent woman in the forest or is the woman the "bad" person stealing their fruit and the monsters are just guarding their dominion against outsiders. I think sometimes we give judgment too preemptively. I know i do it a lot, something to try and change

the dominating green with desaturated yellows for highlights is a choice I made early on to keep the contrast low and to give the painting a little bit more dreamlike effect.

Heyah! 

Oh em gee... Blah. I have been working on this for the last two weeks and commited every night and day just to make this thing and now... I ruined it. Compleatly. HAh... I srsly cant color anymore....

Anyways, I made this together with my little brother. ^^ Were both huge fans of Little Big Planet so we were both very thrilled when we first saw this contest announcement. It was my brothers idea to make this level thingy out of cardboard... I dont think Ill ever want to do sth this complicated again. @.@ And another thing... Its impossible to take a pic of it so all the details would be visible... Damn, Im beginning to think this was all just a waste of precious time... You have no idea how much we both want to win this LBP2 game... 

Well, as you can see theres A LOT of details. Made this in a very mixed media. ><' 

Hmm, I used: Cardboard, cardboard and dont forget. CARDBOARD! Mwahahahaa! 

Painted with acrilycs and watercolors, a lot of hot glue, PVA and artist tape. Used different yarns, metal accessories, toothpicks, wood beads and ofcourse the provided assets pack stickers! 

The yellow beads are supposed to be the lil´ point orbs. ^^

Spent most of the time on desining this whole thing and then sketching it on paper THREE times and then ofcourse a lot of measurment that every each wall would be at the right size.  

Im glad its finally done!

Lake of the Lost Souls

Explorers have recently discovered a lake that has been containing some secret that nobody knows of yet. Hidden inside of dense fog, it has preserved being a mystery during the course of events.
It seems that you cannot enter the water with ordinary means as it will immediately dissolve everything. The only chance to surpass this obstacle is to board an abandoned ship that constantly voyages accross this lake.
Silently, it departs again. Shall we take this opportunity? So far, not a single soul has ever returned. This is why we named it "Lake of the Lost Souls".

Fairly quick one. Initially, I wanted to start out with some sort of chasm-scene but got stuck in further going with the concept. That's the point where I decided to abandon the chasm-concept and instead fill the chasm with some water. Didn't remember that rendering water can take so long but it was surely the slowest thing in the creation-process.

Rendering itself was done in Vue 7 (with a lot of crashing involved, as usually), post-working with quite a bunch of overpainting done in Photoshop. All in all, 1 week of having fun.

How does one sink a ship made out of sponge? That is a question to which I do not have an answer. All I know is that it'd be fun to try.

The ships took the most amount of time to create since I had to deal with some 70+ layers on my slow, clunky old computer. But it was actually kinda fun and I'm pretty satisfied with the final result. Although, if I had more time, I probably would have done even more with this. Oh well.

By the way, this is only the second digital artwork that I've ever created and feedback is always appreciated.

The stock Images that I used from the LittleBigPlanet 2 assetspack are as follows:

Characters on the ships

Stickers on the flags

Sponge texture for the ships

Fabric texture for the clouds (tweaked) and for the ropes on the masts

Everything else, the texture for the background, the ship design, the sun, the water, the fish + textures for them, the bubbles, the clouds... I created them all from scratch. Nothing was copied or traced from any other sources.

I used Paint.NET + Mouse & Keyboard to make this artwork.

The song that I listened to the most as it was quite fitting for this artwork was CONFRONTATION by Junichi Nakatsuru - SOULCALIBUR III ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK ~LEGEND OF SOUNDS~

_{PHEW! After working on this solid for the past 2 or so weeks, I'm finally done!! SOO MANY SCALES!!

This is for the Wacom : Dreams Contest!

This piece means a LOT to me. My heritage ( to those of you that don't watch me/don't know ) goes back to the dragons, the Drakes. The Drake Dragon is my family crest, and obviously, I'm very proud of it! I feel honoured being related to a nobel pirate of whom was knighted by a Queen

I really REALLY wish that dragons existed. And if they did, I would totally want one as a pet/friend. I think besides gryphons or unicorns, dragons are my favourite mythical creature. They can be either good or bad, wise or silly, tiny, or a bit fat lummox. I often daydream about dragons, and how awesome it'd be if they existed, or roamed with the dinosaurs, but still existed. Oh the fun I'd have...

In this picture, I drew a Drake dragon 8D Drakes don't (usually) have wings, and are long and serpent/lizard like. Often compared to the Chinese dragon, but are more commonly related to the Western Dragon. They can breathe either ice or fire.

I chose this one to be a fire breather. That should be apparent with the warm colours and his yellow glowing orb at the end of his tail. The girl on his hand isn't frightened, if you can see her facial expression, but rather happy that he has come and found her.

I'm getting carried away. With dreams, nothing is impossible. Even befriending a giant Drake dragon!

i dressed as oblina from the cartoon ahhh real monsters.

lots of modification with electric tape.
the make-up was done with acrylic and grease paint.
the only thing i regret is not finding/being able to afford yellow contacts

I had a really hard time choosing between this one and another but this one portrays her more.

At this point we could see the base, but there really wasn't a point in getting closer since it was racing towards us and we needed to keep our road options open. We were concerned that the dry air ahead of this storm would kill it, but that wasn't the case. On the far right of this image near the horizon, you can see the base of the storm and its young anvil in the upper right

Sonata for the Lavender Roses

Aw. My OC. Stella Maris, playing a piece for the rose garden, unknowingly everyone is watching her playing her best. haha, talk about sneaking.

The violin doesn't look like it rocks.. because i wasn't able to find any good reference at home. Grr.. but i hope it's fine.

The most challenging part to color here was her hair! I really had to be a lot careful coz the lines are so thin..and i had to layer colors atop each other and in each layer i've got to wait for a few minutes for the paint to dry before putting another layer. One wrong move would definitely end this one in PHAIL! but i think it's good enough. HAHA.

I chose a violinist for this OC at their best because i asked a lot of people about who would likely would turn their heads if someone is performing at their best, and they said it's a violinist. HAHA. Don't know why though~

Lavender roses because it denotes happiness. Stella Maris is my OC.

I used oil pastels, colored pencils, mech pen and poster paints! There were certain accidents when i was making this so i removed them after scanning (twas a minor edits only) and i also put more highlights in her hair because the paint turned out to be dull.

Contest entry -- i joined for fun and there's nothing to lose anyway. HAHAHAHA.

I kinda experimented with the art style used for the game. =w= And I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

>D But I broke my dad's laptop for it. I went on on google to find some references, and ended up on a site that downloaded a trojan virus onto one of his system files. >_> My dad spent 3 hours trying to get rid of it last night, and he's still at it. The worst part is that he needs that laptop for work...so yeah...I'm in a bit of trouble.

The bars in the background are starting to piss me off. <_> Ugh. Oh well.

Methinks I should say a bit about this character.

He likes to play his music through headphones on the threshold of pain (in other words...loud enough that it's bad for your eardrums) which sorta balances with how quiet he gets around other people. He can't really make conversation, but he's a good artist. Even though the stuff he sprays on walls always look insanely abstract, they look good. He's got little to no social life and spends as much time out of the house as possible. He's scrawny and weak, but his smarts and skills are enough for him to get by on the streets.

In the Reaper's Game he'd probably be the type of character that you'll have trouble getting the hang of playing. But with some skill, he could really own. He'd use a lot of fast pace lightning moves that'll make you want to mash buttons. <__> Or jab the DS with your pen thing until the screen cracks or the pen explodes.

If I had to give him a name it would be a super short one. Like...JEN. Lawl. No. >_>

This was a lot of fun to draw. =w= For one thing...it was a good break from my more tedious style and the shading was sooooo simple and sooooo comfortable to do. The only thing I would complain about is that it took me a while to get the proportions as close as I could to the game. It's still not perfect...but I got sick of erasing.

It's been brought to my attention that I didn't make this a day ago, so some people think that it may not count. I'm contacting DA mods to make sure that my entry is ok. My entry was never used commercially, nor won any contests or had any DD's. It was an original idea with no purpose, so I decided to adapt it for the contest. I think that should be ok, because now it is an original work being used solely for this contest. There are other entries that have elements (textures/photographs etc) that were also not made yesterday & they are ok. Technically I did add some new details, revised, & did a bit of work to make this a new piece.

I'll revise this when I know for sure from a DA mod.
