This is my entry for `SparklyDest's January EMTC!

This month the theme was 'Time'.

This is pretty much all I've done all weekend. Apart from cook dinner, make a couple of sandwiches, sketch and read for a bit. I left it very, very late, as I refused to let myself do anything like this until my exams were over. They finished on Friday. So obviously... I was super short of time!

I was worried that I wouldn't get it in on time, but I stayed up last night to get the separate components drawn out (seriously, that clock. Oh my god.), and in my free lessons today I did the assembling and animating. I even got so into it that I lost track of time and had to rush to school in the afternoon so I wouldn't be late for Biology.

I really, really enjoyed making this. I had no major setbacks, which was pleasant, and everything just kind of gelled!

So the other day I was reading something on the internet about the concept of time being man-made - I can pretty much sum it up in a quote I found: 'Time doesn't exist... clocks exist!'.

Anyway, that led me to thinking about the creation of time, and then I thought it might be cool to make emotes building a clock! Although they're not really doing much building...
Tch. Poor employees right there. Maybe the green unhappy-looking guy is the boss, and he's not impressed with the work ethic he's seeing.

I used a reference picture of the mechanisms inside a watch, though I had to simplify it a little. And since I couldn't find a video, the way the cogs work is completely made up. So, any clock experts out there - I know it doesn't really work like this!

I'd reeeeeeally appreciate feedback on this. I'm actually very proud of it, but as always am open to constructive criticism. Maybe you could even drop me a critique? I'd love to hear what you think!!

Please excuse me while I die.
This was possibly the MOST frustrating thing I have ever tried to do! But somehow, it was still enjoyable. When it was going well.
I really tried to push myself in terms of animation, and even though I cut the original idea short and made it simpler, this was still incredibly difficult for me.

I'm still not entirely happy with it...

I couldn't get the jumping/falling to look right, but in the end I just left it as it was because I felt that the more I was messing with it, the weirder it looked.

I'd appreciate constructive feedback on how to improve it!!!!

This is my entry for =SparklyDest's October EMTC. If you can't tell (which I do hope you can...) the emote is the candle. He's just jumpin' out to say hi.

I hope you like my mediocre attempt at complex animation, and please do give me some tips on how I could improve it!

But don't be too mean to me, it's only my third attempt.

P.S. =Lushbob helped me with how to animate without all the previous frames still showing.

First, let me just say My most complex & detailed pixel work yet! Not to mention when I was told I would have the very next page I was all like I felt seriously a bit intimidated following the amazing page made by =Web5teR himself. However, I'm very proud of myself for what I have accomplished. Nearly everything was the hardest part Except the emotes The trees took the longest part, then the sky, and then the grass. After I was done making Mr. Envious Emote, I realized how much he resembled the Pokemon Gastly He's supposed to have an evil-like aura

I am so welcome to critiques and helpful tips This is my first large scale emote like this and would appreciate lots of feedback

And I would like to give a shout-out to all those who helped me and supported me along the way You know who you are

You know, I was gonna write something long about this, but I don't think I have to. I have always felt closer to the outcasts and the ones nobody thinks are friend-worthy. Probably because I am that person (trust me, I am more of an outcast than any of you will know). But when you are a friend, you don't care what others say or think, you stick by your friend and that's that.

That said, I have had a handful of friends who have stuck by me, even when I *know* it was terribly hard and they got a lot of criticism for it. Those people hold very special places in my heart, and I hope they know that.

I finally got around to making my own piece for the 2011 Emote-Pixelart Project

I've had this idea for a while and I decided to make it this morning because the internet was down and I needed something to do as I waited for it to be back up again. It took about 6 hours to make and I'm pretty pleased with the result - except the last minute plant I added. I tried to use the colours people had already used as much as I could and I think it's worked out pretty good. I might add more at some point but I'm pretty happy with how it is now.

Musical Emote Holiday Lights 2

** Note: The preview image features an animation Mirz created for the piece but wasn't able to work into the final version. Also, the change from "Christmas Lights" to "Holiday Lights" was not to secularize it. It was purely for convenience, as the word "Christmas" made the preview and dA title too wide/long. ***

Many of you who follow me and `Mirz123 may remember an animation we did a couple of years back where we did a Christmas lights show in pixels. We were much less experienced then. Looking back, I believe we underestimated how long the animation took. We probably spent upwards of 150 hours over 3 weeks on that piece. What is amazing is that this piece is 30 seconds longer, has 300+ more frames, and took us about 30 hours to do (done mostly in the wee mornings and on the weekends).

This piece features the classic, "Carol of the Bells." This is a "video game remix" composed by Tanner Helland (~tannerhelland). Honestly, this piece is so epic, I can't say enough good things about it. Tanner doesn't do a lot of music anymore, but you should check out some of his other stuff on his website ----> [link]

This was another collaboration between me and `Mirz123. As is often the case, she did the art and choreography, while I did the technical stuff. In this case, I figured out all the music timing and editing, synchronized the animation to the sound, and did the final dubbing. I also created the final files in video format from the original pixellated animation. Even though she is embarrassed for me to say it, Mirz's art is amazing. I actually wanted her to upload this on her account because she did so much work on it and I think it's wonderful. But she insisted that I post it on mine since she felt that she could not have done this without my help.

Lastly, I should note one thing. The synching is not 100% perfect. This is due to the fact that because of the limitation of pixel animation and our software, we had to create the files with a minimum speed of no less than .04 seconds, which meant that a few of the beats could not be timed precisely.

Quick stats: Frames before conversion (not counting the ending credits): 852. Length of animation: 2 minutes 22 seconds.

Gonna add a few words that Mirz wrote...

When we were looking for songs for this piece, I came upon this rendition of Carol of the Bells and fell in love. However, Jim wasn't very hot on it at first. He wanted a more traditional version. It's a good thing we couldn't find another free-use one. In the end, we both adore it, knowing this animation wouldn't be nearly as epic with another song. Also, I am literally floored how relatively fast we did this. 2 years is a huge amount of time and my skills as a pixel artist are just so much better. I was able to do much more in far less time. And, just to note, none of the animation from the previous version was used. I re-did every light and sequence from scratch. I believe it shows in the overall quality (even though I am still thoroughly happy and proud of the original).

April Calendar Collab

I signed up to enter Krissi's Calendar Collab project and was contacted the next day to say my partner for the project would be =BlissfullySarcastic

The month we chose was April and where as i suggested we do 'april showers', Bliss suggested we do 'april fools'. Since both were good suggestions we decided to include both and i sketched out the concept of the clouds and rainbow which we both seemed to like.

So as to be fair, we decided that we should do half of the bg each and both be included in adding emotes too. We came up with the concept that we pixel half the bg each and then add emotes to the opposite side. I drew out the a base and we got to work.

Along the way we swapped pieces so we could check out how each other were working and help make sure that pieces of the collab matched up. The piece soon developed a happy/sad split and we decided to continue with this with the choice of colours and expressions.

i am really really pleased how this worked out and the 2 halves seem to really work together despite the fact they were done by separate people. It's really inspired me to take part in other collabs if they are this much fun

So, my emotes were exposed to radiation and actually melted together. They come to, see their predicament, and try to escape. Only, melted emote flesh stops them. It's a vicious cycle, I admit it.

I've been wanting to enter this project since it was released, but have struggle to come up with an idea until now.

All of this is hand pixel shaded. I did take my text from my standard set and the floor shading i stole from a previous creation, but overall its worked out how i wanted.

Its hard to create well known characters as emotes, let alone when they aren't very emote shaded but i think i've doe an ok job.

This is my entry for `Mirz123's Friendship project. I've been wanting to make an entry for a while but never quite managed to come up with an idea to sum up what friendship is to me.

That is until a recent skype call that lasted way into the early hours of the morning and I realised that one element I love about friendship is the ability to talk for hours on end about absolutely everything and anything. It doesn't matter what the conversation is on or who's leading it, but some how the most random of topics can turn into awesome 4am conversation debating everything from the correct shape of a pi character to the meaning of life.

Anyways, it felt great to take a break from Octopi avatars to try pixelling something fresh and new. I certainly look forward to working on some more pixel pieces when I can afford to take a break from school work

April Emoticon Calendar Collab

^{This is mine and `Synfull's collab WIPs for `krissi001's Emoticon Calendar Collab.
We each picked the month of April; she thought of the idea "April showers" and I thought "April Fools." We decided to do both!
I pixeled "April showers" background on the right, she pixeled "April Fools" background on the left, and then we pixeled the emotes for the other person's side.

It turned into a "happy/sad" kind of thing, and I used darker, less-saturated colors to represent that on the right, while she used lighter, saturated colors on the left. We even made the emotes' expressions reflect it. c:
This was so much fun. I hope to collab with her (or any emoticonist ) again in the future.

Train entry

If there is a emote project or contest going, i always like to try and make an entry. Its taken me a while to think of one i wanted to make for `CookiemagiK's train project, but i finally got around to it

I wanted to try and fit one of each devious symbol on this, but i ran out of both space and emote colours, so i stuck the main ones on. So i apologise to the seniors, creative staff, founders and a couple of others that didn't fit on.

It was quite difficult trying to make them all wave with the correct movement and all independently, but i managed it. Also, i must give credit to `CookiemagiK for the wheel movement as i took that off one the the templates.

Up again already?!? I was on the 6th, too! Actually, because there were some deviants who had to bow out of the Advent calendar, me and *Ravenswd ended up making more than one entry. But it was a lot of fun.

What would the holiday season be without cooking and baking! I love making Christmas cookies with the kids. There are some cookies and candies we only have during the holidays, so it's such a special time. I wanted to showcase that in my entry. Of course you have an emote rolling out the sugar cookie dough. The other emote, it carrying a tray off cookies to whereever they need to go. And, of course, junior is having a grand time sampling everything.

Advent Calendar - Day 6

I forgot I had this in Sta.sh! I was waiting to get home from work to upload it.

This is one of my contributions to the Advent Calendar project hosted by the lovely ^krissi001. We were supposed to create a holiday scene, preferably depicting something special to us about the holiday season. For me, one of the most amazing things is Christmas lights. I love turning off all of the lights and just having the glow of the tree and other house lights. It is so warm and soothing. I love it to pieces. So, my piece shows an emote family (and sleeping emote kitty) enjoying the nighttime lights.

For some reason when you say garden gnome, i always think of a mini wishing well, so thats what i decided to make.

The well is 100% hand drawn and pixelled by me The emotes are still gradient shaded

Its unusual i handshade things, but i'm impressed how this went. I know i've not done it properly as the light source seems to change dirrection for each part, but i don't really care

I was aiming to stick and emote in the bucket, but didn't make it big enough so i had to put them elsewhere

Took me a couple of hours in all, but i like the final outcome

EDIT I saw this again for the first time in ages the other day...and realized it needed some tweaking, BAD! Changed the colors to match my current palette, as well as corrected a few minor things that were bugging me. I am much happier with this now!

Mew Pokemote Card

This is an entry for my Pokemon Emote Card Project.

I have been wanting to do another Pokemon card for a while, but didn't know which Pokemon to choose. So, last night I let my kids decide and the big winner was Mew. Turns out it was a LOT harder than I thought to get the head shape right. In the end, though, I managed and my kids loved it. My youngest kept going around calling it "cutie Mew."

The design of the card is based heavily off of a real foil Mew card.

Right now i've been put off projects a lil bit but this one caught my eye as something different and i was convinced to sign up.

Following the rainbow theme from above i decided to add in some rainbow droplets and a pot of gold for the end of the rainbow. I then randomly added Syn in holding a star (for older watchers they may know what that refers to) and then added in 3 more emotes to fill the gaps.

The orange is holding a butterfly and the green is attempting to steal the money

Overall i'm really proud of how this turned out. All the blue bg is hand pixeled, along with the pot of gold and all the coins. The emotes were made from my basepack and the only thing done with a gradient was the star (which was made a while ago)

Took me around 5 hours to do it all, but i think it was worth it

WDW Postcard

I have been in a bit of a Disney mood and I was working on different Disney emotes and then the idea came to me to do a postcard. For our family, many past vacations have been spent at WDW because we have family in Florida. So, this was kinda special in 2 ways since it was a contribution to the project, but also a little memory of the past for me.

I spent a ton of time on that castle. I really wanted to make a small pixel version of Cinderella's castle and it was SOOO hard. Of course, after I'd done 3/4th of it, I realized only a portion would show up in the template. I may finish it up in the future and release it on its own.

This piece is dedicated to ^wdwparksgal and her lovely daughter, `Arete-Eirene-Phile, who are uber-Disney fans. I was thinking of both of them while making this.

You can find the individual Mickey & Minnie emotes in my Scraps. The font used for the text is my Teeny Pix font.

A Waldo in King Arthur's Court

This is my entry for *MixedMilkChOcOlate's [link] (Where's Wally project). Well, in the States we call him Waldo, and he's not hiding very hard in this picture. Though, in the book series, he often isn't hiding--just obscured by his busy surroundings.

I wanted to do a themed entry and decided a medieval castle setting would be cool. The design of the throne area, including the wall, was based on pictures of real castles. I tried to get the garments in line too. I've done medieval emotes before, so I had a few ideas, but had to come up with some new ones too. Also, I decided to re-design Waldo a bit since he was going to be in the forefront.

I think this would make a great website decoration piece. I may do a version without Waldo for my scraps, for general use.

Fairy Tale - Rapunzel

There hasn't been a submission for my Children's Classic Tales project in a while, so I thought I would do another myself. [link]

My girls have been on a BIG Barbie DVD kick. I have to admit, I actually like the movies. They have good music, good stories, and are entertaining. Sure, they tie them in to sell dolls, but I think back to all of the cheap cartoon-to-sell-toys of the 80s and they pale in comparison to these movies.

Last night, my girls wanted to watch Rapunzel. As I was watching the Barbie spin on the classic tale, I thought I would like to make an emote of it. Here it is. I often do these pieces and then surprise my kids with them. My girls (ages 6, 4, and 3) just loved this to pieces. Though, I had to explain to my Becca why the prince in this version didn't look like the one in the Barbie movie!

A very impromptu submission for the [link] (Desert Island Emoticon Project). The theme is to take the desert island piece and do it up. Well, when I saw the base, I just saw this sad little island and couldn't get any other image in my mind. So, I decided this little island needed someone to love it. Again, I know this isn't super-pixellated, and it really didn't take long to do. But I'm rather fond of it.

It's funny because I am putting up 2 cow deviations together, but they are not related at all. This one is my entry for the Emote Milk Carton Project ---> [link] .

I started my "Holy Cow" emote [link] some time before this project went live. I tried to think of something else to do for the carton, but I kept coming back to a cow. It was neat to do 2 different versions of the cow--one larger for the animation and one smaller for the carton.

As an aside, after I made this I did some poking around to see if there was a company called "Mooz" that made milk, but there isn't. Sounds like it would be a very clever name for a dairy company.

It was fun to emote again! And to do a collab with my dear friend I made the left half while she made the right half. We decided since Artemis and April love food, that they would be looking through cookbooks and baking I'll admit I struggled at first, but as I got the general idea in my head, I pixeled it pretty quick, though I messed with shading a lot. Artemis is levitating an egg and holding a spatula. And April is measuring out some sugar for the mixer!

She did such an awesome job on her half! I'm in love with her mad skills Be sure to check out her version as well

This is my entry to =Web5teR's awesome Emote Story Project!

The continuation of the story is:

"Days were dark as Dio ruled the lands
with his evil ways. But on the far edge of
the forest the Good Witch saw the despair
of her beloved emotes and decided to do
all in her power to help restore peace."

The image consists of Dio, the Evil emote, 4 poor enslaved emotes, a skull and the Good Witch with all her glittery goodness that makes the forest bloom back into life as she passes. But only while she passes....
