Happy Holidays everyone!

This is a very old idea that's been floating around in my head for about 6 years. It was originally a sculpture I made in high school but my baby brothers broke it before I could get any pictures...

Mother nature is always so full of wonder. From the most majestic creatures to the most whimsical ones, they're all so special in their own ways. It's so magical when two species interact so I imagined a forest spirit crossing path with a family of ducks, and both being fascinated by each other Everything is a source of wonder.

Ever love someone so much you just want to vomit hearts all over them?

So here it is, the image fate didn't want me to finish. As you may know, this is based off of `delya's "I LOVE YOU" (with her permission of course). As you may also know, when I first tried to render this image earlier this month, after 8 days of waiting and about 3/4 way done, someone flipped the fuse to my room, making all that waiting pointless. I got so angry that I made "First Impression". After that, I optimized it a bit, reused the lighting map, used some really insanely simple yet genius tricks, and cut that down to 4 days instead of what I estimate would have been around 12 days render time otherwise.

I have to admit this is one of my favorite works I've ever done. The colors just seem to work together really well, and it's goofy and has a good happy style to it. To me, this image is the perfect mix of technical achievement, art, and humor. Not only that, it was fun to make! This is what I was born to do.

Technical Details

Made in Maya 6.5, rendered in Mental Ray 3.4 standalone. The puke mesh was done in RealFlow 3. The shaders on the characters are custom shaders designed to blur reflection more towards the angle facing you (so that there is less blurring towards the edges). They also reflect less on the angle facing you, like a Fresnel effect. It may not be very obvious, but an incredible amount of effort went into getting the characters' shaders to look the way I wanted. The L_Glass shader was used on the puke, and Maya Ramp shaders on the hearts. I reused the hearts from Almost Perfected and slightly edited them. There were no lights, only bright cubes illuminating the scene with Final Gathering. This is the first image I've ever used RealFlow, and I'm glad I learned how to use it! Until this image I had no use for it, but now I'll be able to create liquidy shapes in any render in the future.

The puke itself is the most incredible part of this image. The puke totalled out at over 1.8 million polygons!. Yeah, I'm a little bit of a detail nut . The puke calculation in RealFlow took something like 8 hours to compute on my dual Opteron machine, and I accidentally filled like 100 gigs worth of meshes and particle files doing that! Oops. Anyways, on to the pictures!

Evolution

Yeah alright I'll explain stuff.

For anyone who's been paying attention to my journals they'll have realised that the concept is all about evolution. However lets not go all Darwin here as overtly fascinating as apes are. Now my initial idea was to have a ceremony of opposites, which has essentially been pulled off. Contrasting scenes of exhuberant paradise and paralysing doom, thus the image holds true to the concept aesthetically. But to a more fulfilling ideal, on the one side you have a human, gazing towards the light, bathing in its majesty and quite possibly having a whale of a time, on the other hand we have the skeleton, a dead human facing away from the light, hiding in the shadow of the railings. Thus the image echoes the choices sentiment of the included typography.

There's a lot more to it than that as well, but where's the fun if the artist gives you all the answers? Jump into this one and hopefully enjoy it. It'd make me happy if you did. And no, I wouldn't change it for the world, else I wouldn't have submitted it.

Technically, the image is a few steps forward again. The original working resolution proved to be too large for my computer to handle (Especially with regards to swap files, damned photoshop). It is composed of a composite of three terragen renders placed side by side (but those renders were stitches of the same render except made larger via stitching different views... that's a lot of renders and a lot of stitching). You're staring at about 20 renders total, with a total render time of between 30 and 40 hours. That's a lot of sitting around and doing nothing for me. Win. But the key point was that the initial terrain files were made as such so that the renders would fit together perfectly with as little photoshop interference as possible, including height maps so the half-height atmospheres wouldn't fight each other, and surface maps so either side could blend. To put it simply, it's a pain in the ass to do properly, but it was worthwhile. If you would like to see the image without photoshop work, check [link] . From then on, post render was all achieved in photoshop with numerous photo-references garnered from [link] - which has once again proved to been an invaluable resource (I SUCK with anatomy, so with drawing the skeleton it was a superb website to check back to). In total, the image has taken about a month to accomplish, but I'm proud.

On a final note, there's a snail in the image somewhere. Think of it as a "where's wally/waldo" game, go find him, but don't tell others where he is, that's cheating.

This image comes as is if you're just wishing to delve in and take a look, however if you click the download button, you can use the larger (and I'm afraid, lower quality) image as a wallpaper. If you are in need of a larger size, then you're going to have to note me, since I'm very wary of releasing large resolution images to the public for my own arts protection.

This is Raven, my beloved OC.

I've been wanting to challenge myself for quite some time, and I finally did it. Here's my first go at lineless artwork/painting. It was friggen hard! And extremely time-consuming. I don't know how you people do it. HOW do you people do it?!

I also deliberately chose rather dramatic lighting this time round, cos I normally find it rather tricky.

I don't think I've ever worked this hard on a picture before; I was pushed to my very limits with this. And as tough as it was, I loved working on it. I've learnt so much from this piece, as well. I'm pretty happy with it.

Edit #3: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE DD. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This piece is very close to my heart, so I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate this.

I've been trying to work on this personal piece here and there over the past few weeks in an effort to maintain my sanity. And now, at 6.30 in the morning, I've finally finished. I'm not sure if I feel sane, though. It'll probably be the last thing I post until after exams (end of June).

I can't believe I've made it this far. Four hundred thousand hits. A lot has happened in the past year, and I feel that I'm finally starting to grow as an artist. I would never be where I am today without all of your support, so I am extremely grateful for your constant watches, favourites, comments and visits. To be able to touch people with my art (not like that) means the world to me.

So, I decided to make this wallpaper for you. It's not much, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! You might remember Trelise from last time.

Yeap no big cities this time
I was thinking about doing some space art again and ended up with this. A lot of fun, stuff like that makes me really relax. As i saw this image [link] , i just had to do something with it. I basically took the image as a base and started painting. Definately more Paint then Photo here, so it's not going to the Photomanip Gallery. Greg Martin was a big inspiration, visiting his website again after a long time made we want to do space art

This is the first test of a full procedural generated city in 3DS MAX that I then painted over in SAI to take away the 3D look.

For more information on how I did this and other examples, please visit my tumblr post at [link]

This 3D plus hand paint over process reduces the time of drawing detailed city backgrounds by many folds I am still new at learning 3D city generation so this whole process took me about 6 hours from start to end, which is still a lot faster than hand painting from scratch.

I will post tutorials on how to do this once I get back from Anime Expo and San Diego Comic Con. Speaking of AX, I will be in the artist alley for all 4 days at tables A-16 to A18 I hope to see you there!!! More info plus map of table location at [link]

Trapped by School

She slips in after class, just to be away from them, waiting till the sound of shouting and laughter has subsided, till it's safe to walk home alone

School occupies a strange place in my mind. It wasn't so long ago, but when I look back it seems so blurry. I remember being the weird kid, the awkward girl, who would run around with the boys. I was bullied a lot, sometimes it hurt, but mostly it didn't. I relised people would always judge, and knew it's you who has to be happy with yourself, you shouldn't change to please them; I noticed the things people would tease me about were the things they were insecure about in themselves. The most valuable lessons I learned weren't in the classroom. I got very comfortable with my own company
My art teacher told me "Cartoons are not art" so I drew in my spare time and let myself indulge in a world all my own.

This is a two parter drawing.. please expect the next installment soon It'll be wallpaper size as well, feel free to use this as your school wallpaper heh

Schools such a strange place, and this girls having a hard time of it... I can certainly relate to feeling trapped there sometimes, for many reasons...

Her eyes are formed from impact craters, in fact, her birth was from a giant impact; the moon. Our moon.

Out in space, though never alone, with the earth for company...

She's a young moon here, being formed and pitted by violent collisions. She, of all of us, is one of the most beautiful yet bears the most scars. Sister sci-fi art to Young Universe: I have so many stories in my head, I enjoy science fiction especially, I can't write very well so I put them into art ^-^ Made it as a wallpaper so you can put your icons over the asteroids and that my last Wallpaper got a DD, buuut it wasn't my fave art so I feel I'm reconciling with this heh Download for larger sizes.

_{I'm on a two week break, with about a month's worth of homework to do. I've done very little of that, and instead, I wanted to draw - 'cos I haven't drawn for myself in ages, and ages, and I think my brain was having a quiet breakdown. So, another addition to my Raven Revival Project.

Raven, my baby. I started this because I was completely inspired by ~totorochic's gift, "Raven White" - which is such a simple, yet beautiful depiction of my character. I DEMAND YOU ALL TO GO TO HER GALLERY.

I wanted to draw some solid black hair. And yeah, she seems to have an inconsistent number of wings.

`delya drew THIS THING and immediately that feeling came over me. You know that feeling when your so inspired that you HAVE to make something, otherwise you'll start to smell of taquitos and look like the black guy from Mission to Mars and start having dreams where you turn into an angry robot version Gary Sinise and rampage Rubios? No?

I used to think that I would never be more proud of any render I've made than LOVE JUICE, but then I made NIMBUS. And then I was like, there's no way I'll make a render for a long time that I like more than that one. Then I made this render, and I crapped my pants. I consider it the spiritual successor to Love Juice, except it's coming out the other end!

Everything just seemed to fall right into place with this image, starting from the first test render all the way to the final eye-popping wallpaper. I never back tracked, so the image went together in an easy two days. Contrary to Nimbus, there was only one single color idea for this one. It basically from the get-go looked exactly like it does now. I placed a light and two reflection cards and wham I was done with lighting.

Credits go to `delya for helping me edit the final image and giving much needed advice on eyeballs.

Technical Details

Made in Maya 2009, rendered with mental ray. Created from start to finish in about 2 days solid work. Everything was created out-of-the-box, with no special tools. Lighting was done with one area light, and that's it! The ambience was accomplished with a pure white environment with a blue colored ground plane, which helped bounce the blue lgiht back onto teh character. The reflections were created with two bright round surfaces, and were set to ignore all final gathering. The edge reflections on the character were simply reflecting the white environment and helped define his shape. The cloud was created with FluidFX in Maya. Render times were very good, and I was able to create several versions of the clouds, hearts etc before deciding on this one. The hearts were stolen directly from LOVE JUICE.

Much like my recent images, I have started using ambient occlusion (AO) a lot. In this image it was used to draw more shadow detail from his popping eye, the creases in the hands, the feet treads, the butt crack, and the areas surrounding the hearts that are on the ground. The AO was ussually colored in shades of blue, so that the shadows worked along with it. I once again had to use the special include/exclude options in mental rays AO so that I could tell which surfaces to be effected by it. For example, I wanted the ground to shadow around teh hearts, but not around his feet.

The image had to be rendered in two main passes. One was without the glow, and one was with it. There was a few problems with the FluidFX cloud rendering with the glow incorrectly (the glow would shine through the cloud, no matter how dense they were), so I had to render both and combine them in Photoshop. `delya did the editing to combine them.

Something simple, quick and pink.

One of the sketches that have been rotting away in my numerous half-empty and unloved sketchbooks (sorry, fellahs). This was completely self-indulgent -- we all know how I love to draw crazy, impractical hair.

The anatomy's probably a bit off, as is the lighting (check out the varying shines on her hair-baubles ) & gravity (ribbon?), but I was aiming to execute this spontaneously. I was after something sultry and feminine.

Scanned in, touched up & coloured. Didn't take very long. Figured it looked cool as a wallpaper, so I've zipped up a few resolutions for you to download if you so desire.

Fuzz Academy - The Massacre

Most gummy bears live a short and violent life. As children, they often must see their closest friends fall prey to the appetites of humans and other assorted predators. Even those lucky enough to be accepted into the Fuzz Academy's safe environment sometimes meet their fate at the hands of their non-gummy schoolmates. Despite this hard life, gummies are known for their cheery nature and over-friendliness, which is usually what gets them into trouble in the first place.

Anyway, it's been a while since I've done an image with the traditional 12 bears. Gummy bears are so fun to color.....I really want to do it again.

My other mermaid pic was a deep sea mermaid, though this one here is better equipped for shallower waters preferably areas with a lot of sea grass or kelp for camouflage.

( I like designing fantasy type creatures and these mermaids are more loosely based on the mythological stories not 'The little mermaid" I really don't like Disney....)

Rawkets

Here's the space battle I was hired to illustrate for the HTML5 multiplayer webgame Rawkets. It's still in development with a lot of features to be added, and some minor bugs to be ironed out, but as it stands, it's a lot of fun to drop in and blow up friends! The image was put on a banner and is being put on a cool little arcade machine too.

Like the wallpaper background version that you can find below, I've chosen to upload a set of wallpapers of this one too. The sizes are:

Love. It comes in so many forms. You can feel it in a thousand different ways, for so many different people and even over a piece of artwork...

This is a thank you to express my love to you guys. It's a simple wallpaper with a girl, a girl who hold so much love, just waiting to be unlocked.

I'm currently working of some more complex drawings, they just take me so long, especially with a hectic life, so this is a nice little break, sorry I haven't uploaded for ages. Better things will follow, honest ^_^; The heart shaped hair I feel I could have done much better...

Each wallpaper (except one) comes in three sizes, 1366X768, 1600X1200 and 1920X1200.

Sorry to say but after this I won't be taking any more wallpaper requests, if there is a specific size you need or I didn't cover something you want, please use your own awesome photoshop skills (or ask a friend) to make the wallpaper. Some things just won't wait.

The flying rig was by far the trickiest thing to get right, the harness was redesigned three times and the wings more than half a dozen before it looked right.
The caterpillar on the other hand was surprisingly easy build. It turns out that there is not a whole lot to a caterpillar and I found a whole bunch of good reference pictures. Fellow 3d artists take note, google image search is your friend.

The swirly plants, as they've been called, were lifted from an older work

Also, in a shocking break from tradition, lighting and texturing were not the never ending nightmare they usually are.

Thanks to who showed me a much better way to light it.

The point when all life ends, and the very begining to when life can start once more.

Been working on this piece for a while, so I hope this is a nice intro into me working on art again. I know I haven't submitted anything in a while. My life kinda feels like my artwork at the moment. Anyway I hope you like it and all the work I poured into it.

this is my speedpaint tribute to the ten years of Harry Potter era and the end of it all... I tried to figure out on how to show emotion which would represent the ending the best... the scene after it all ends. you can't see Harry or any other character, only his owl indicating that a new day is coming~ ( p.s. *spoiler* yes, Hedwig died in 7th book / movie-part 1 )

those were good 10 years of HP movies *sigh*

Part 2 of a pair of images of these 12 baby polar bears. (See Part 1 here--> [link] ). In case it's not clear, the puffy polar bear just came out of a dryer and his speech bubble has a picture of a dryer in it. His siblings don't seem very thrilled by the result, though.....and look a little scared of their fuzzified brother. (Except that one that's grinning....I'm sure it's thinking deviously.) I don't know why I always seem to draw these guys in dozens....I can't seem to bring myself to just draw one, or two, or a handful. Nope. Either none or twelve. O_____o I doubt there are EVER this many polar bear cubs together in one place at any given time. >D And if there are, I feel sympathy for that poor polar bear mother!

Here is a completely re-done and revamped version of my original and most popular deviation: ONE PLANET_ [link]
. I did this because the original version was done when I still had my PC and after it crashed I lost the original PSD version. I honestly have more countries in this than ever before and it took much longer to try and fit it all in. I am really sorry if I missed your country; it seems I've made a few human errors. If there are countries not on here, they were not left out purposely; and I am truly really sorry if I offended anyone.

I tried to go along the same color scheme as the original and fixed everything that got criticisms in the past. So now you can enjoy this in all its beauty in high resolution. If you download it, you will get a beautiful 4060x2536 view of it and be able to see every country (even the smallest ones).

DOWNLOAD FOR FULL-SIZE WALLPAPER (1920x1200).

A finished piece! Yeahhhhh. A portrait commissioned by the very cool *Shwann. This is the one and only DJ Goh-Goh! I'm sure you've seen her all over DA. It was a privilege to draw her; I had a great deal of fun with this.

In the spirit of challenging myself/trying new things, I tried to push the amount of detail in this. Also tested out a different painting technique/process. Goh-Goh's meant to have expressive eyes, so I tried to convey that. She's also usually hidden behind a mask, so I wanted to make her reveal worth the mystery.
