um i always wanted to try one of these contests. I'm quite convinced it's out of my league since my design skills are kinda below freezing. So at least i wanted to do something i'm more confident at, illustration that is :">

The technique used to draw this one is the "random blob" i described some time ago 0.o I start with a big random chunk of black color and erase and shape slowly it in the final picture. Really advanced use of this is called Concept art i think... Since my results are kinda simple and not much concept-ish... i call it BLOB painting LOL

edit: fixed colors to meet the rules, total of 5 colors allowed - the darker color tones (texture) in the screens are only in the big picture - they are flat on the shirt design.

Concept idea:
well for the contest i do i little of research and i found definitions of music and it make me think of instruments that have really power sound and ancient ones, historical, etc. but then i found the origin of rhythm and "the beat" and in one of his definitions i found the heart it's in fact a complex mechanism that all we have that has a "constant" beat that never stops...until the end that sound is with us we need his music to keep alive a that's when i figuret out the name and then the concept jeje

Se que tengo commissions pendientes, pero al ver que habian organizado otro concurso en DA no pude resistirme! ademas es un tema que me encanta, no concibo laidea de dibujar sin escuchar musica mientras!!

El concepto es el siguiente: la fuente de inspiracion, la musica, emana de una fuente (en este caso un MP3) que a traves de los oidos llega al corazon, donde se bombea y pasa a la mano y la herramienta de dibujo, de la que salen todos nuestros amados dibujos inspirados por canciones.

Esta idea la tengo en mente desde hace años y nunca encontraba el momento para plasmarla, pero al fin he podido hacerlo y debo decir que estoy super orgullosa del resultado.

La musica es una poderosa fuente de inspiracion que puede cambiar nuestro estado de animo
o combinar con el que ya tenemos, nos acompaña en practicamente todos los momentos de nuestra vida y si nos falta nos sentimos perdidos.

Debido a vuestros comentarios y a las entradas que estoy viendo con el concurso me da que van a descalificar mi entrada anterior por tener demasiados colores, asi que he decidido rehacerla con no mas de 4 colores colores y haciendo que sean planos, sin degradados ni efectos.
Sinceramente me resulta ridiculo hacer algo tan simple, pero asi son las reglas del concurso y tengo que amoldarme a ellas ><

Because your comments and I'm seeing entries to the contest I'm going to disqualify my previous post about having too many colors, so I decided to remake it with no more than 4 colors colors and making them flat, with no gradients or effects.

The theme is absolutley awesome and I couldn't wait to start
You are only allowed to use five colours - therefore it was a bit hard to find a balance with the colours.
Still I am pretty happy with the result

So... my first t-shirt design.
I just made it what I would buy if I had money. Well, I would print it on cloth even this one doesn't get selected
At first I was going to draw some instruments but I found it a bit typical. I just wanted to have more meaning than instruments and notes, maybe meaning of life, passion and 'fantasy' about music.
I have copyright for the character, she's my original character, Electric Yume(dream).
Some of brush used are from free brushes site -__;; but the music notes and most of details are hand-drawn. Since I could use only five colors, I tried to make it as colorful and as deep as I could.

Actually I really wanna wear this... Well, Please click I Want This It Button or Fav if you'd wear it.

Music for me is my comfort zone. whenever I feel upset, I listen to music. Listening to my favorite songs relieve my stress and depression. it brings me to another world where I can still be happy even everything seems to go wrong..
The design was inspired by listening to SHINee's songs while i'm working on it. There's this line on one of their song that says,
"When it's tough, lean on the rhythm with our song for you. Even when tears sometimes cover your eyes, never become weak.."
Whenever I hear this song, it somehow soothes my feeling and motivates me to do better..

As for the T-shirt design, I made use of 5 colors, (pink, light blue, light green, yellow & white) I used light colors contrasting with the color of the shirt. The design portrays that,
"Whenever you feel like everything seems to break, listen to a song and let your feeling go with the flow.."
I wanted to portray a colorful impression on my design to somehow make it look lively.

This piece pretty much reflects one of the reasons why I think music plays a big part in my life; it takes me to another place, universe, space and time, I did this piece while doing exactly that for a full 2 hours, I was lost somewhere and it was nice.

This is a reworked, simpler-monochrome version of [link] which I had a lot of people tell me wouldn't be accepted due to the 5 color limit for the competition. (Thanx to everyone that gave me a heads up bout this!)

This one took a looooong time

So very sorry for the edit. It had to be done the piece was not actually inside allotted space so the sleeves had to go... sadly enough

Made entirely on my phone (an lg optimys 2x)
4 x 2 inch screen i think on Autodesk Sketchbook Mobile for android
Goodness gracious the app has a lot of exiting program bugs and i had to start over several times. The app also does not allow the making of any marks smaller than one point which really irks me but i'll get over it.

Approximate time of making 12-15 hours

About This Design
This is my original design for the Musically Inspired T-Shirt Design Challenge. I decided to go with something simple here that we could all relate to: chillin or relaxing while listing to our favorite tunes.

I made the sleeves of the hoodie to look like Piano keys and I even added the dA logo on the character's T-shirt right where the hoodie is partially unzipped.

Keeping in line with the five color limit, I used the colors green, light brown, white, grey and black and tried to keep them consistent throughout the design. If you look closely at the design [close-up], you can see how I used grey over some white areas to create a shadow effect without the use of gradients. This is especially noticeable along the arms of the hoodie and over the sneakers.

Speaking of the sneakers, I actually fashioned them after a computer mouse since that is what I used to create this design.

Tools
I used Inkscape (vector graphics), my ten year old computer and my trusty computer mouse to create this design. No tablet here.

A Chillin Beat
This awesome song from the video game "Ragnarok Online" was the inspiration for my design:

Here's my design for the Musically Inspired Design Challenge.

The sentence I added to the graphic, "No matter the distance my music will reach you," refers to how music can overcome barriers of physical distance and language. Thus, the boy's music crosses over the shirt and into the girl's ears. I stuck with white and a mid-gray to keep things simple and to symbolize the purity of music and a simple wish to convey emotions and stories through it.

I have never done a T-shirt design before but the idea behind it is about the ability of music to help construct scenarios in our imagination. When I listen to music, I can picture the scenes in my head that fits the mood of the music accordingly. The more I listen to it, the more a story emerges. For me, music paints out my imagination.

A bit of technical info: The headphones are made up of individual music notes and I worked on it, on and off, for a week.

Updated Designs, I made a color version for a white shirt, and added a grayscale version for the black shirt...

Okay this is my third design, i made a play on tools, from music to art tools...since music and art go hand in hand...
you will see a brush on the guitar, one of the drum sticks top is a brush, and one of the records is an artist paint pallete...

All done in illustrator, so the design can be enlarged or made smaller without losing image quality, since its a vector design.
