PD: TO THE JUDGES at the bottom left near the robot has a corner design which is near the logo is missing a yellow corner, the original design is fine, no errors, was that when the design went up I did not realize I uploaded the design lacked a touch of color and not change it for fear of losing the votes but the original design this without error, I say this for what it comes to analyze the design take into account that little mistake in the design, but the original is fine, many thanks

Well again xD second round did not know at first about the contest until reyjking1 told me about the contest, and convinced me to dont give up and get to work, and participate again and start with sketches, studies of the retro style and the concept , retro futuristic and the design has a very retro design using art-deco that was part of that trend
Retro futuristic 60-70 years, I took a lot of design work like last approximately 30 hours or 28 all was made with my pour mouse u_u and the pen tool but with a lot of effort an love xD I liked the final product and was made in adobe illustrator

OH NO! The dA Overlords have just given life to their most devious of all creations: Fellabot! It's out to terrorize the city of deviantsVILLE by destroying all of its artistic works! Who will save us and put an end to this abomination ONCE AND FOR ALL?!

Here's my robotic design of Fella for the Retro Future Design Challenge. This was drawn using only my mouse & keyboard (no tablet), Paint.NET and Inkscape.

The only stock image used in this artwork is the [required] t-shirt template from the Retro Future Design Challenge Assets.
I remade the dA logo from scratch. It's nothing much but it's not a borrowed stock image.
This t-shirt design was made using only two colors: black & red.
The font, Selznick Remix NF, is licensed for commercial use.

I did it!! This is the first time I am participating in a dA-design battle! And I am soo excited about it!! I really hope you all like my design, a little cutie-monster being afraid of a spider under the bed (where monsters are told to live ^^) and now asking to sleep in your bed! It took me really long to draw and design the T-Shirt, but it was much much fun, especially since I tried to discover sime kind of a new style! ^^

P.S.: The little rabbit he is holding is inspired by a selfmade plushie of my little sister! ^^

Many of you mentioned that my design has too many colors... But I believe it was only a recommendation, else it would mean they would only accept vectors, because when you are painting something you always have different hues and tones... I also think they would have written it in the official rules or the artistic guidelines, but they didnt, so it is probably just a tip to not use more than 7 colors! (I think anyway, that I used only brown, red, blue, yellow and cyan... so not more than 7 colors)

The design challenge states:

"This time around, step back into the Retro Future and design a t-shirt that captures the essence of idealistic imagery of the future as imagined in the pre-1970s era. Skyscrapers that round to a bulb at their top, ringed with futuristic bands for extra support. Flying cars that drive their silver-suited inhabitants to their jobs on Mars. Sleek, spherical household appliances that do everything from shower you to cook your dinner in a matter of instants. You tell us!"

One of my resolutions this year was to challenge and train myself better by creating artwork as often as possible. Part of it is joining as many contests as I could manage, because it really is great exercise trying to work with a predetermined theme and medium.

The Retro Future shirt design challenge caught my interest because it brought back memories of watching cartoons like The Jetsons and stuff on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim as a teeny kid. Later on I was exposed to vintage futuristic art from even farther back. Their idea of what was 'modern' or 'futuristic' is entirely different from how it's depicted today usually streamlined silhouettes, restrained color, and minimalism. In contrast, their vision of tomorrow was full of lots of bright color and odd forms that would give construction companies headaches (then again maybe it was because they planned to have the robots do all the grunt work).

_{my design:}
My main inspirations for my design are the futuristic illustrations of Arthur Radebaugh, and cartoons I watched growing up.

It's pretty straightforward a stylized retro futuristic cityscape with the deviantART logo integrated as part of the crazy architecture. It fits in there pretty well, hahah. I also wanted to maximize the shirt as a canvas so I made the unprinted blue part serve as the sky so that that even the negative space is really part of the composition as a whole.

I did my best to make a shirt design I would wear, and I'd like to think my taste in clothes isn't horrible and hopefully other people would enjoy this too. I tried to balance the stylization in a such a way that it would keep with the theme but also appeal to a large demographic with modern tastes.

7 colors; halftones were used for the gradations and to simulate the look of more colors

I really enjoyed working on this, and even learned a couple of new tricks in the process so I'm happy.

_{It's fascinating to observe how these aesthetics evolve. And now I can't help wondering how the future is going to look in twenty years or so.}

Okidoki guys... i've got some stuff to say about this

Ok, i made this quote/saying/whatever one day while talking with my friends in school. We were talking about the word swag and what makes it so great, so we started thinking of stuff that swag stood for. And i just randomly thought of this. I made this design just for the fun of it, i never thought it would be so popular. People are telling me that "i am not original" because there is "something we asians got, something we americans got, etc." But, as far as my concerns.. this was original because i DID make it myself. I didn't go on google before i made this and be like "ok lets see what i can steel... hnnggggg"
So i am sorry if this is "bland" or "not original" enough for you. sorry, i honestly don't know what else to say. Long story short, i thought of this without any help, and put it on a shirt for fun, the end, woop. :/ I dont mean to offend anyone by this, but it really needs to be said.

Another thing, I know the word "swag" is overused and highly annoying... i know... i just made this for fun not knowing that it would be so popular. I personally don't like the word, so sorry for that. :/

I also know that it is a pretty bland design, sorry :/ i would make another with bigger white letters, but then i wouldn't have a good chance of winning because these have so many votes.

They are the 4 mythical creatures in the Chinese constellation.
The Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North.

Took me about 12 hours to draw, including breaks.

When I saw a retro-future themed contest I knew I had to enter, after all it is the most imaginative and unique form of futurism since future predictions from decades ago were less bounded by the more realistic expectations and facts we have in the field of science fiction today

Perhaps one of the most classic ideas that people used to genuinely believe even though it seems silly to us today, is the concept of evil "little green men" on Mars who plan on invading the Earth. Of course, when deviantART's beloved mascot takes a trip to the red planet to see what's going on, he finds little green....llamas, who aren't trying to take over the Earth but still don't seem all that friendly

I created this in Photoshop since I don't know enough about Illustrator which is normally what this type of stuff is done in. I did make the original much larger resolution, just in case Wish me luck! Though with the voting tab right there you can do more than just wish

I make the design with pink and light blue, to make it unisex.

yeah, its a bit random. I couldn't think of anything then i remembered I'm really random high on caffeine and/or sugar lol, so i had a load of sugar and i started thinking of weird stuff like this and wrote them down, and i liked this one the most so here it is ^.^

um i always wanted to try one of these contests. I'm quite convinced it's out of my league since my design skills are kinda below freezing. So at least i wanted to do something i'm more confident at, illustration that is :">

The technique used to draw this one is the "random blob" i described some time ago 0.o I start with a big random chunk of black color and erase and shape slowly it in the final picture. Really advanced use of this is called Concept art i think... Since my results are kinda simple and not much concept-ish... i call it BLOB painting LOL

edit: fixed colors to meet the rules, total of 5 colors allowed - the darker color tones (texture) in the screens are only in the big picture - they are flat on the shirt design.

Artist's Note 2: Ok, it seems like a LOT of people have been mentioning that I've taken this from The Italian Job so allow me to explain once and for all:
The Italian Job was released in 2003. I originally wrote this quote back in 2001. I still have the old notebook that I wrote it in from middle school and when this contest was e-mailed to me, I dug up the old thing and the first thing I turned to was this quote along with several others I'd written back then as well. (I'll post those once I'm done) The fact that it's similar to the quote from the movie is sheer coincidence I swear. I've never even seen that movie. Sure, I've heard of it, but I couldn't tell you jack shit about that flick, let alone remember anything specific like a quote. So, again, my quote, no relation to The Italian Job other than plain old chance.

Artist Note 3: To all those who voted, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I somehow made it into the semi-finals. To all of those who pointed out that this quote was taken from a film, therefore, should be disqualified: Thank you as well. Seriously, I don't like the idea of using another idea that was already used before, and it bugged the hell out of me to find out what I thought was an original idea had already been done. However, your votes spoke volumes and as mush as I REALLY wish my other ideas had made the cut instead, I am ridiculously flattered to have made it into the semi-finals. I highly doubt I'll win come the final judging, but at least I know that I can say I've got the chops typographically wise to get this far. Again, to all those who supported, be it either by voting or pointing out the quote's similarities to The Italian Job, thanks loads, from the bottom of my heart.
