Worked on this a half hour here, hour there off and on this week when I was taking a break from my design project and DA duties. It started with the flower and I knew I was in trouble. After this one, I've completely given up on making a realistic flower. As you can see, this is trademark Aeires.

When I saw I had a flower on my hands, I remembered making Remember Me last winter so I went in that direction again. It's been cold lately so winter seemed to fit the mood I've been in. Originally this was going to be a totally different color but I thought limiting myself to white and shades of blue would give it a better ice feel. Next time I promise to use a very wide spectrum of colors, this one about killed me trying to keep it all together without being boring.

I feel like screaming, I want to fly but something's holding me.

EDIT February 15, 2012: On the concept.
Many people find the concept dull or not very original.
It "just" expresses my current state of mind. I have autoimmune thyroid disease which affects my daily life.
I say I wish to fly but actually I want a lot less. I just want to be healthy and strong again.
So the shapes basically describe the longing to be free and the illness that holds me. Colors are mix of resignation and fierce anger.

UPDATE: The image has been replaced with the "pure fractal" version which I located recently. For those of you who didn't see the older submission which has been very popular, the only real difference is some effects I added in photoshop (mainly lighting effects and sparkles).

I think it looks much cleaner in it's original state, and I hope those of you who have fav'd it in the past, still like it!

It's simply a fractal now, so I hope you can appreciate it for what it is!

Thank you all for the support you show for this piece!

The Phoenix was (re)born after many days of work and dozens of WIP versions;
What pushed me to do this, despite the fact that a phoenix was done so many times before, was the challenge to (re)create this mighty creature just with the help of the fractals, and this was no easy task at all. The trickiest part proved to be the creation of that "fiery" look, the one which gives that unique, special, phoenix "personality", and dozens of hours were spent for it
In the end I was(and still am) more the satisfied with the result, and your positive feedback is the greatest reward one artist can hope for

I created this guy using Apophysis, a freeware software program that you may download from Apophysis.

I generated him using random Options and lots of Batches to see what I could find, not with the math that so many good fractal artists use. I don't do math...

The Awakening III-Rebirth

The idea of rebirth, or continuous regeneration of a world as we see it, was given to me by ~AmazeMe on The Awakening II-Crystal Tower. Thanks a lot for this idea!

This reminded me of many good sci-fi books, including "Inverted world" by Christopher Priest (the theme is a little bit different, but in this book the world around us is constantly modified, the ground and hills are moving etc..., for a good reason).

The Awakening III is my own vision of a self-regenerating world, but of course, like any graphic work, it can have a lot of other interpretations.

Update 12/21/2008: 1.25 aspect ratio, 3000x2400 print available.

How to use Volumetric Lights in Mandelbulb3D? =>
Go into the coloring tab of the main window and click on the "Dyn fog on it" button: it will transform into volumetric light. In the text box next to it, you put the number of the light source you want to use for volumetric (by default it's the 1st one) then you can render the image. If the light direction is not interesting, you can change it using the sliders in the Global Light tab of the light which is selected (make sure that the light in On, and also note that volumetric lighting also works with Positional light, as in the latest image by Kraftwerk). Then you can modify the intensity of the light by playing with the d.Fog sliders in the Lighting window. As a side note, if you use Hard shadows, don't forget to try to tick the "Softer HS" box in the post process window, and try to increase the Radius value. It will blur hard shadow edges for more realistic renders. Hope this helps.

I don't know why, but in the thing in the center I can see two eyes and a mouth. So, I've decided to call these little guys "fuffoli".
They hide in woods and meadows and protect creatures.
I swear, I'm not high.

I'm trying to study a method to make blur without blurring the center of the flower, so I'm going to study the use of falloff2.

As always, `lindelokse's flowers inspire me a lot!

P.S: I realized that I still haven't dedicated a fractal to one of the bands I loved during my adolescence, so I need to fix that.
(no, I didn't live my adolescence in the 80s )

EDIT: I added a watermark to this fractal. There are people who use it without my permission. In one case I reported it to the Help Desk but my claim was marked as INVALID because my work was only used as background in a fractal collage and not as the exact same fractal design. So I said to myself to hell with it and let the person keep the manip. But now I find a remark in their deviation description where the deviant allows the further use of this manip with my work as base.

The title refers to a line from Coldplay's song Paradise.
I'm not a huge fan of Coldplay, but the lyrics of this particular song match perfectly with the way I'm feeling in this period. Yes, it was just too good to last a little bit more.

(anyway, I wanted to make a flower, but with something different...so I went for a "macro" of a bloom)

So, my life is all about blood tests these days and about doctor that has no idea how to treat my thyroid.
Doctors see me bleed (figuratively) and none of them is able to help me.
There is a decadent beauty in my situation; I am slowly leaving denial behind and embrace the truth that I am bleeding, broken and the only person who can help me is myself. I am a doctor in a white, blood-stained coat.
