No Escape

Yaaay, I finally came around to doing this. It's a gift art for my friend, I promised her a picture of our two characters performing together. On left is my character, "Seth", and on the right is her character, "Clyde". I'm in love with Clyde.

I highly encourage you guys to check out her gallery if you're a big fan of bright colors and Goth/Punk/Metal characters. I'm hoping she finds a Japanese-to-English translator soon for her manga, "Spree Killer". I'd do it, but my Japanese is rusty and terrible.

Anyway, I needed something with an explosive, Dadaist feel. My life has been getting complicated and frustrating lately. I even used the lyrics of a song I keep listening to during my down times (the person who guesses the song and band who performed it gets a free postcard print of this - although, I can only ship within the states). So I guess this work is fueled by my desire to escape from this confusing time in my life.

I think that's the incredible thing about art. And I'm not just talking about drawing/painting. I'm talking books, videogames, and movies too. Any time I get depressed I find myself always escaping to *some* type of artform. Of course, there really is no escape, only temporary comfort. Still, at least it's something right?

I have been working on this for days on end. Over 100 layers. I had some intention of having all sorts of toys flying around, and maybe a cracked mirror, or broken picture...everything started to look too cluttered, and it just didn't really work.

Photoshop CS4 with wacom tablet, lots and lots of painting and then lots of photo collage too.

Recently, I've been looking over my Vampire the Requiem books, trying to find something I remembered was somewhere there, but unfortunately didn't know where exactly (TMBBS*).

Well, I've not found it yet, but instead happened across plenty of WONDERFUL artworks, especially in the Ancient Mysteries supplement and the Mekhet Clanbook, both of which are probably the best written and illustrated World of Darkness books to date. My opinion, of course.
Anyway, I loved them so much that I couldn't help but envy the artists' talents. Not to be worse, I've decided to undust my tablet and get to work.

I've tried to make my drawing look similar to the illustrations in the books. Pretending to be professional and all, I even put my signature on it.

Oh, well. maybe not quite as I wanted it to look, but good enough. The dress needs a little more work yet, especially the awkwardly looking highlights, and the photo-manipulated fan looks a bit out of place, but all in all, I'm happy.

Hah, I guess Evelynn would be happy too if she saw her image put in a VtR book. Who knows? Maybe one day?

Oh well...

Last week out of the fucking blue I get a fb book msg from none other than Chris Palko - aka Cage aka the Weathermen!

Pretty much floored me when he said he was down for a project together.

It could've been drawing dicks with my face on it all day if that's what he needed, whatever it was I was down for.

Cage and Sean Martin started a new website called

Not sure if this is the last time I'll work with him but if it is, it was a pleasure.

the character is Lotte Daae, who is a sister to Gustave from Love Never Dies. funny thing is that my character is older than Lloyd's sequel. used a Naomi Watts portrait as reference

before anybody would start quessing: the book version of Christine is definitely more to the movie version of Meg. and Lotte is just like her mother- no,no scars and stuff. as for her personality, she's much alike Erik. so that's it.

Sketch book layered collage of original characters. The background texture is an oil painting I made several years ago.

*(Yep, I wanted all the sketches to look 'faded into dust'.)

I've rarely drawn short-haired guys, but lately I've decided to give a few of them 'haircuts'.

Side note: I used a photo of a real skull to draw from-- the rest of the stuff around it is freehand/out-of-my-head.

I do think using more photographic references for some of my drawings would make them look better, obviously-- but I am the type to draw from memory/imagination more often than not. Could be a bad habit, could be kind of a good thing. Who knows.

I think drawing from memory first, followed by checking photographs of human faces/anatomy for accuracy by comparison would be a better method than what I'm used to. I lack patience, though.

I did learn how to draw from real life people and photographs, but I always tend to wish I had drawn everything better.

Sucks being stubborn.

I'm not a big fan of the superhero genre, personally, but a friend (who I suspect has something for Batgirl and pointed out to me that she is often portrayed as a redhead-my personal weakness) challenged me to create a "Batgirl in Peril" scene. Well, voila. For all you comic book aficionados out there I ask your indulgence. I'm not familiar with the characters shown here but I do hope I at least did them justice. In any event, I hope you enjoy it.

Tears on paper staining red
Shots of guns that have now bled
Injured die leaving one to roam
Wishing to all leave for home

One by one they are picked off blind
Lurking in the shadows from behind
Screams for help have long been heard

The ticking clockwork hides some pain
The many loops of the bloodied rain
He lies lonely carrying the book

This one is not recent work, it's from the beginning from this year, made for Projektplenum classes in Braunschweig University of Art. It's wrapping cover for a book of mine, which in the end had 70 colour pages, and It's unfinished, since I was here only for 4 months -_-' but professors were satisfied with results and labeled project as finished. But to me it's not. It transfered to list of my personal projects, and I have to postpone it due to Diploma, but I wish that someday it will be my own, creppy publication...
I...had to think a lot, while posting it or not..._{while it's very...how to put it...close and natural to me to draw such things, I still feel very shy about posting it...it's creepy as hell} so I really, really hope you guys enjoy it ; 7 ;

The inspiration...basicaly all this Freud stuff. Also, how people are defined by basic instints, and the meat called as 'body', how they escape it in hope to become purer, how they become rotten in the process...and so on.

Inner was a working title for a book, can mean 'soul', but, I don't think it's the best choice ;_; 'if I ever return to this project, I hope to be blessed with the idea for something better.

In a place known as hell

The evil creature of the dark

Jury of Death hold the good
The Redo-er does as should

Clenching the blood book softly

Time ceases as of the fate
Single is to contemplate
Magic is burning in palm
The Magician smiles calm

Time returns back once again

The Silence

There's something you should know about me. Randomly I take inspiration from taking two random words and trying to make something related to my practice with it. You know, picking out random words from a book and just rolling with it? Anyways, that's what ended up happening for me. Using this creativity boosting technique to make something different.

So this is a mix of digital and physical materials. Playing with glue and paints and such while using my digital manipulation techniques. I decided that I would create an additional barrier on myself to make something with both forms of mediums. My two "words/phrases" ended up being the following...

-Hijab
-Doctor Who

Hijab was in a Time magazine and I got Doctor Who from a magazine which I am assuming was just advertising the show. Having never watched Doctor Who I just kinda rolled up some of the imagery from the show that I liked. I found some characters named "The Silence" (Correct me if I am wrong.) that seemed fairly interesting. According to my brief research about them it sounds like their identity or image is erased from your memory whenever they chose?

Hijab is the headscarf/covering that Muslim women wear. Which is a cultural identifier when I visualize Muslim women in my own typical American point of view.

I merged the two together in my own image/interpretation. I am not sure what I want to speak about with this image but it's kinda creepy, and all I know is that I like it!

The Green Ribbon

Fragments From Nowhere

This volume has its own logo, stylized pages, and a completely original cover, all created by Jeffrey Smith (*veinsofmercury).

This is an incredibly personal, important release for me. The wealth of emotion that went into the creation of each of these pieces of writing is something difficult to describe, and to those of you who may take on this emotional journey in reading it, you have my bottomless gratitude.

I see this book as the beginning of a long, arduous road. A road where everything I’ve ever been through and felt is released onto page after page of writing, in the hope that these pages may comfort someone else through difficult times of their own.

This is the first of many more projects to come, and they will only get bigger, more personal, and more emotional from here.}

Started out as a random sketch in my sketch book, i wanted to do a sort of vanity polaroid picture drawing.
But then once i took it into photoshop i just started trying to make it look darker. Past the point of a mere vanity shot but where it maybe is just an old photo or maybe an old case file photo to a murder case? what do you think?

Locked Together in Hatred

I got some new pencils when I went up to the city and one day decided to test them out and drew my two favourite vampires, Claudia and Lestat from Interview with the Vampire (Anne Rice totally pawns Twilight by the way, now those are what vampires are all about, none of this sparkling vegetarian bullshit.)

These are ruthless killers.

The most dysfunctional yet well loved family in 20th century literature. They are exactly alike and hate each other for it. And Claudia is one angsty bitch, and we can all understand why.

"You see that old woman? That will never happen to you. You will never grow old, and you will never die."
"And it means something else too, doesn't it? I shall never ever grow up. "

It's such a great film and book and I was gonna discuss it further but I don't think I'll ruin it anymore for people. This novel and film truly is a master piece.

Anyway after that I decided to experiment in photoshop with the sketch and had fun developing a new painting style which I think really suits the feel of the story. I used a paper texture from [link] and
scanned some pages from the book and put in the background. And then had fun painting some touch ups and with grungy textures.

The passage is a series of quotes from the film.

The only mistake I did when making this was thinking "ah yeah it's only experimental, it won't go far" and so only did it a small resolution and a standard web size and then was like 'damn' this is wallpaper material I should have done it bigger and made wallpapers out of it.

I wasn't sure about the title either, another quote from the film, I was thinking of doing a different piece with this title, but I couldn't think of anything, so I just settled for it.

Hope you enjoy, now I need to figure out which group this is best suited for, but I'll do that tomorrow, I'm really tired now. Been lacking so much energy today.

This is a much older drawing that I gave a huge update over haul. She used to be one of my most popular on other sites, and then my style changed and she got left behind. Here's to looking back and seeing how far we can go.

The design is based (but not copied, I never trace or COPY) from "Baby Doll" in The Big Book Of Manga from Ikari Studios. Yes, it is similiar but I assure you most of the similarities are purely an accident. I only took the pose, everything else just kinda happened.

A book cover commission for ~TheWonderCat. She wanted something similar to my Medical Conundrum piece, but with a fully mechanical steampunk styled heart and arm/hand. I'm pleased with how this turned out. It took me forever to make though. Oh, how I hate you school and how you suck the time right out of my life.

I decided to do a Vampire Dedication series for my friends who have supported me and been there on DA and off.. so for the next while my art will be for my vampires. Alot of them using the likenesses of celebs who also inspire me

My first dedication in the series goes to Sandra , the owner of the WDC group in which I help moderate..and friend. This is a thank you for being my friend on here, and for being patient with me on my lack of participation due to life's circumstances. And thank you for the birthday gift

This piece is a mixed inspiration of Anne Rice, True Blood (Charlaine Harris) , and The Lilith Lore...

Mina "She Lost Her Heart"

Yes..inspired by no other than Bram Stoker's Dracula ..My all time favorite novel and movie.... and to those who ask which movie?..I'm a fan of the old classics, but the version that came out about 20 years ago was my fave..with Gary Oldman and Wynona Ryder..it was the closest adaption to the book so far...

Another big and complex vampire work by me. Lately I am having many ideas and little time (well, I have time, but it always takes a lot to create something like this). I am quite proud of the lightning on this, we may say I discovered new ways of making light. By accident.

Based on my imagination and listened music. My vampire works are influenced by everything vampire-themed I watched/read/listened for 12 years. Lately I read Dracula and I re-watched the movie and I am waiting for a new, thick book to arrive. So, we can say my vampire mood is raging. Well, I have albums 1, 2, & 3 completly, lyrically written. Album 5 is done as well. Album four is still a work in progress. And while I have other ideas for the artwork of other albums I didn't know what I was going to do for #4, so I did this idea while it was fresh. The album title is: Can you read my message? It's a random album, unlike the others whose songs follow a central title theme. So here it is, the lyrics will be displayed on old pages, but the back cover of the album will most likely be the band's mascot holding the book. Well that's it guys.
