Inspired by H.P.Lovecraft, this is my rendition of a seductive Cthulhu empress. Also this is a part of another series i´m working on since a few years, called "transgenetic metahuman" Illustrations of human species that is crossed with either plants, animals, or insects to survive on another planet.
Call it the next step of evolution.

As a small child, I decided the best way to stay safe at night was to make sure I kept on good terms with any monsters that might have been living in my room. I was never eaten, so I assume it was a successful strategy.

Bit of a different technique this time; scanned a pencil sketch and added colour in photoshop. I waffled back and forth about putting some kind of mature tag on this, just because I never know which family members will find their way onto my page, but... it's not that bad. I think. Hard to judge your own stuff.

[EDIT] Holy jackalopes, you guys! XD This now has more faves than the entire rest of my gallery combined. I'm not sure what I did right, but thanks to all of you; I'm glad you like it!

It's the front cover for actor/writer Matthew Ewald's (who I also worked for on other projects) horror novel Human Nature.

The skeleton and the other elements were completely modelled in 3D, I remember putting a lot of time into this, pushing my boundaries on modelling back then. Done in Wings 3D, so there wasn't even sculpting involved oO
Rendered in Cinema 4D if I remember correctly. I did the compositing in Photoshop then, tons of layering.

Maury Povitch: "Grim Reaper...YOU ARE THE FATHER!!!"

Well, I joined the ranks of all of the Grim Reaper spawn in the Monster High fandom with my very own Grim Reaper spawn with Marion Reaper.

Marion isn't just the spawn of the usual Grim Reaper, but she is also the Daughter of Lady Death, the Diva of Death, the Queen of All That is Dead and Dying. etc (I'm basing my Marion's backstory around that of the original Chaos! Comics Lady Death prior to bankruptcy).

Along story short, The Grim Reaper kept taunting Lady Death for years and constantly kept pointing out that Hope, the human girl who would become Lady Death, never truly died, but merely renounced her humanity. With that in mind, the Grim Reaper also pointed out that Lady Death was not immortal, and was his whenever he so desired.

Of course this revelation enraged the Diva of Death, who, as usual, unleashed the FUCKING FURY while all manner of attack passed through the Grim Reaper...and he LOL'd. So, Lady Death gave in and gave him a mercy fuck...

...too bad no one told her that the Grim Reaper doesn't use condoms.

Soon after Marion (named for Lady Death's Mother) was born. Lady Death saw this as an opportunity for making up for her father Matthias' past mistakes and with the help of her loyal friend Cremator, raised Marion, teaching her to fight and never back down to anyone, no matter how strong or powerful they may be.

She does get to see her father on weekends though. He's nicer to her and let's her watch TV. He also makes sure she gets a proper education (as well as made herself some friends) by enrolling her at Monster High, because let's face it, leaning to fight isn't going to help you balance your check book.

Personality-wise, Marion has a bit of an innocent quality, but that doesn't mean she is a pushover. She has yet to fully understand the extent of her powers, nor does she really want to. Her dream is to find a nice atrocious mansterl, settle down in the Blood Burbs and cultivate a little torture garden.

Ripper Grim is also her cousin. He mom DID warn her about her countless siblings and other family members.

Boy howdy I've in an art slump and it's been going on for almost a month now. Hell, I forced myself to get this finished simply because, I haven't felt like doing anything arty. It really sucks and I just hope it soon passes.

Anyway, I thought I would try and finish some new Monster High artwork, but unlike my previous Monster High characters, this guy was first created when I was...12? Either way I had just seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie) and got inspired.

When he was first created back in...'93-'94, Raven here was originally a vampire, but I could never think of any real back story for him, let alone any distinguishing personality traits (aside from chivalry, does that count as a personality trait?), so after a good 10 years of trying to work with the poor guy, he wound up being cast off like so many of my older OCs.

Then recently, I re-watched The Monster Club (in all it's cheesy, low budget glory, which featured Vincent Price's only portrayal in his entire movie career as a vampire), which was one of my favourite movies as a kid (I remember telling *Enamorte awhile back about the "Stripper" scene in the film), and Raven awoke in the back of my mind, demanding a bit of a makeover as it were.

And then Raven became a Shadmock rather than a vampire.

What is a Shadmock? Well, Shadmocks are best left described by the vampire Eramus to horror writer R. Chetwyn-Hayes in the movie:

Eramus: "You see first we have the primate monsters: Vampires, Werewolves, and Ghouls. Now a Vampire and Werewolf would produce a Werevamp, but a Werewolf and a Ghoul would produce a Weregoo, but a Vampire and a Ghoul would produce a Vamgoo. A Weregoo and a Werevamp would produce a Shaddy. Now a Werevamp and a Vamgoo would produce a Maddy, but a Werevamp and a Vamgoo would produce a Raddy. Now if a Shaddy were to mate with a Maddy or a Raddy, the results would be a Mock."

R. Chetwynd-Hayes: "A Mock?"

Eramus: "Frankly that's just a polite name for 'Mongrel'. You know it's quite simple really. All you have to do is remember the basic rules of Monsterdom. Vampire sup, Werewolves hunt, Ghouls tear. Shaddies lick, Maddies Yawn, Mocks blow, but Shadmocks only whistle."

R. Chetwynd-Hayes: "Shadmocks?"

Eramus: "If a Mock were to mate with any of the other hybrids, their offsprings would be called 'Shadmocks'."

R. Chetwynd-Hayes: "And they only whistle."

Eramus: "Well they don't do it very often."

R. Chetwynd-Hayes: "It doesn't sound too terrifying."

Eramus: "Ohhhhhhh, but you should see the results of a Shadmock's whistling. Shadmocks are the lowest in the monster hierarchy, and yet they have this Power!"

R. Chetwynd-Hayes: "What happens when a Shadmock whistles?"

Eramus: "I heard of a man once who saw the results of a Shadmock's whistling. That's all he saw...and yet...and yet..."

And that's a shadmock. Shadmocks are considered the lowest in the monster kingdom (making them most likely lower than zombies in accordance with the Monster High canon). Despite this, shadmocks are normally feared by other monsters as well as humans who do not even realize their heritage. Even Raven's own parents gave him up out of this fear...fear the shadmock will whistle in the event that they were upset (this ability isn't used often and it's only used if the shadmock is upset, frightened, or threatened. Shadmocks have little control over this ability so one would have to be very careful in their presence).

Lucky for Raven, he was adopted by the vampire Eramus (who has a vast knowledge of monsters) and was raised by the old vampire. Raven eventually became employed as a waiter at the Monster Club to help him get over his anti-social behaviour. Later, Eramus would send Raven to Monster High is hopes that the shadmock would make some friends...friends who would see past his mixed heritage and not fear him.

This is another one of the things I worked on while my internet was out, and I'm overall happy with it despite a few errors (example being the foreshortening on Hotaru's arms make her arms look well, short). Hopefully no one will notice any of them.

Before now, I was never fully happy with Hotaru's design, then a few months ago, I realized the problem: I was so worried about her being a Mary-Sue that I wound up severely watering her down her character in both appearance and personality (or lack thereof). So, after looking her over, I said "fuck it," redesigned her, and decided to treat her as I would any other of my OCs.

In her new design, Hotaru (formerly known as SAMA Unit-666) has a slightly larger part in the NeverRealms as the the third Horseman of the Apocalypse "Famine" (who should be called "Inflation" considering the Book of Revelation actually speaks of the prices of food skyrocketing when associated with this Horseman) at the suggestion of ~AnarchicQ who said it would work for her since she is "Cold and Empty." It makes much sense. To compliment this, I also destroyed the right side of her face, added a face plate a la Mortal Kombat's Kano and redesigned her old outfit. Also, weapons-wise I gave her a Farmer's Scythe since her original "Retractable Scythe" was a just plain stupid idea, although its still not at stupid as sparkling vampires. I also gave in and gave her some boots with heels. Why should a cold and empty cyborg care about how comfy her feet are?

And now I just realized why Hotaru and Dr. Ryan don't get along very well.

Dislikes: YOU! Being broke, annoying little kids, when children (or husbands in Mel's case) aren't properly disciplined, clowns (she's mildly Coulrophobic).
Pet (s): Cats...lots and lots of cats.
Vulgar Display of Power: Hotaru starts to walk away from her opponent, shaking her head as if in defeat. When she gets about six feet away from her opponent, when turns around suddenly, slamming the blade of her scythe up between their legs and thus impaling them. Her opponent shakes and screams in agony before Hotaru quickly wrenches the scythe back, nearly slicing her opponent in half. Their limp, nearly evenly cut body then slides to the ground as she strikes a win pose.

Extra Information

Hotaru is the only prototype of a type of cyborg known as "SAMA Units", which were designed by one Dr. Richard Lang to serve as infiltrators for his Lord and Master Damien Lucifer. Unfortunately, Dr. Lang was murdered by the Horseman Adramalech (at the request of Damien) and Hotaru was reprogrammed to serve as the Horseman Famine.

90% of Hotaru's "scanning equipment" was destroyed beyond repair during the battle/slaughter of the Neo-Children team The Tyrants (said equipment was contained in her head). As such, she is no longer capable of detailed scanning beyond giving the Name, race, and measurements of an individual.

What better than a short, dumpy woman in drab clothing to make a better infiltrator, hmm?

She was given the name "Hotaru" by the vampire Akumu when she was captured by the first incarnation of his group Obscuro for interrogation purposes. It was during her capture that she met Dr. Ryan, who she would come to torment on a regular basis by demanding rent money at every turn.

Akumu named her "Hotaru" because he saw her as a dead soul.

When Hotaru is injured, she does not bleed blood, but rather 'oozes' what appears to be silver mercury. In fact, these are her nanites, which repair her body in the event that she is injured. Too bad they could not repair her scanning equipment.

When it comes to money, Hotaru is extremely greedy and will stop at almost nothing to obtain it.

... As such, she and Niles Craven (The Personification of Greed in the SDS) get along quite well.

Hotaru dislikes most children, but doesn't mind Beluxi. This is probably because Beluxi is a clean child who is easily entertained and rarely ever cries.

On the other hand, Hotaru doesn't really like her baby brother-in-law Shyam Rofocale, probably because of his unwarranted sense of self-importance and the fact that he is spoiled rotten. She only tolerates him for the sake of her husband and her father-in-law (whom she adores because he's rich).

When it comes to a mission, cause and consequence rarely effects Hotaru. She is very single-minded and cares not who dies...just as long as the mission is accomplished.

She's also extremely right-brained dominant.

And she HATES both Ovaltine commercials and Coupon Bug commercials with a passion.

Hotaru normally holds the grips on her scythe when fighting, but can use the scythe as a staff as well.

Dr. Ryan's nicknams for Hotaru is "Booger".

Ancient ruins tend to be infested with various kinds of creatures of the night...

Here, we see the sweet sorcerer Vedrana, who has fallen prey to the undead inhabitants of the Nineveh ruins.
Don´t blame the poor vampires... they haven´t seen a woman in decades... XD

Prey: Shanti
Predator: Kaa ^^

Do you remember the dreamy little girl Mowgli followed into the village at the end of Jungle Book? Well, she grew up...and Kaa can be glad he missed the first opportunity to snag the petite beauty.

This "pairing" is a true classic in my opinion. There is no real story behind it, because it's not really Kaa's style to rush things like that. I have begun a new series with these two, re-imagining the legendary, lovely hypnotizing scenes from the cartoon - this is basically a prequel, an alternative ending to a long love story

Again, I really like how this render turned out. Apart from a few tears on her cheek and a bit of saliva dripping from his mouth, I haven't done any retouching to it. It is vivid, dynamic and well...a tad more violent in comparison to my usual work. There are two things missing in my opinion: a set of silky black hair for dear Shanti (this one looks kinda matte, maybe the texture was broken) and an appropriate background. I thought about playing around with the morphs for the Python, but I eventually discarded it.

Crysta Cabbat - Zombie Hunter

Spending years stuck in the mail sorting offices of her local supermarket complaints department, the quiet and shy Crysta Cabbat dreamed of something different. Day after day, she had to sort out people issues into categories such as wet floors, messy aisles, and cranky staff. Finally, offered a once in a lifetime oppertunity to become a comic book artist, she departs for the big city, with a new exciting life awaiting her.

Upon her arrival she is shocked to see a zombie apocolypse had taken hold of the globe. Something inside this timid young lady snapped. Having her one true dream stolen from her before it could even begin.

Taking up some shotguns, knives and her trusty chainsaw; Marty, she chose a different route to the other undead survivors. Instead of going into hiding and fighting for survival, Crysta went head to head, seeking sweet and bloody vengence, slaughtering any zombie unlucky enough to cross her path.

Another Apophysis-GIMP hybrid. Like Lonely, this piece started as an Apophysis render. The flame, by itself, is probably not that remarkable. However, the bright bulges in the original render resembled eyes. I added more detail and a background.

After I drew the blob itself, I realized the inspiration probably came out of the old Alone in the Dark game. Out of a bit of nostalgia I installed it on my machine and promptly re-learned the game doesn't end as soon as you first make it to the front door.

This will probably become a chapter footer in the second book of my WIP. I generally don't do footers... since the chapter headers take so long and I generally write a lot of short chapters. But this is a good cliff-hanger. Hence, I'll leave the fate of the character to your imagination for now.

Legacy of the Mountains

One of my favorite H. P. Lovecraft's books is Mountains of Madness. The story goes with a expedition in Antarctica that discovers an extraterrestrial city older than the dinosaurs, built by ancient aliens and frozen in the ice for billions of years.

The great thing about Mountains of Madness (I liked it so hard that I red the book with winter coats, with the air-conditioning in the maximum, just to feel like Antarctica ) its the originality of Lovecraft's aliens, the "Old Ones". Usually Sci Fi depict extraterrestrials as humans in latex with oversized stupid heads... the Greys, the Alien, the Predator... always humanoid creatures with weird heads.

The Old Ones are quite original, once they are more like protocordates (that barrel-like nasty horrors that lives in the deeps of ocean) with star-shaped heads and leather wings. A brief description and they really look weird, outworldly, but functional (capable to walk, eat, develop technology and so on...)

Six feet end to end, three and five-tenths feet central diameter, tapering to one foot at each end. Like a barrel with five bulging ridges in place of staves. Lateral breakages, as of thinnish stalks, are at equator in middle of these ridges. In furrows between ridges are curious growths combs or wings that fold up and spread out like fans. . . which gives almost seven-foot wing spread. Arrangement reminds one of certain monsters of primal myth, especially fabled Elder Things in [the] Necronomicon.

Love's Secret Domain

After several years of silence, “Ryan” sent the Pyramid-Gallery a new parcel containing an old photograph and a hand-printed letter. Analysis of the hand writing as well as overall writing style along with the fact that there was no return address would indicate that this is the same Ryan who, years earlier had sent a parcel containing information in regards to the puzzle known as “The Odyne Configuration.” His letter reads as follows:

“I really wish I had more information in regards to the photo since my research has turned up nothing. Maybe you recognize it? My son brought the photo over a week or so ago and told me that he found it stuffed between a couple of old occult books while antique hunting with my granddaughter. He also handed me some notes he had taken while he was at said antique store since after he found the photo, he decided to inquire with the shopkeeper, who in—turn told him a story which may interest you. Since his hand writing is a mess, I’ve taken the liberty of deciphering said notes:

“The shopkeeper told my son that sometime during the autumn of 1992, the previous shopkeeper, a 'Mr. McCurdy” had an accidental run-in with a young man; a boy of no more than eighteen years of age. The boy was carrying Box in the photo, which he referred to as 'Love’s Secret Domain.' Mr. Mcurdy, being a collector of both LeMarchand’s and Acerbus’ work, not only recognized the Box as a Configuration, but he recognized it as a Box previously unrecorded in LeMarchand’s Dreams. He offered to buy the box from the boy, at which the boy outright refused, holding the Box tightly to his chest as if his life depended on it. Mr. McCurdy’s offer inflated well into the four digits and yet the boy still refused before finally running away, Box in hand.

“After this incident, Mr. McCurdy obsessed for weeks with little to no sleep as he tried in vain to recover information both on the boy as well as information on Love’s Secret Domain, but as far as anyone knew, he efforts turned up nothing. Six weeks later, Mr. McCurdy vanished without a trace, leaving only this old photograph of the Box in question lying in a pool of blood.

“The shopkeeper, now looking fearful after telling the story, practically threw the photograph at my son and even sold him another Puzzle Box which his previously been in Mr. McCurdy’s possession for a mere $5. This Box referred to as ‘The Equestrian Order,' although as of yet I have very little information on that particular puzzle.”

It's been awhile since I did anything truly Hellraiser-themed, hasn't it.

Anyway, I've found myself slowly but surely getting back into the Hellraiser franchise (I'm not going anywhere near "Revelations" though), and therefore a new Box (which is also a possible submission for Pyramid Gallery) as well as a new Gash are in order. The members of the new Gash who are summoned via this Box will appear shortly, I just haven't finished designing them and one, which I have mentioned several times in regards to a certain fandom outside of Hellraiser needs a little redrawing. Also, I plan to draw the Puzzle Guardian for this particular Box.

Much like "The Odyne Configuration," Love's Secret Domain was made with ~steelgohst's "Box of Gateways Tutorial". Personally, I think this is a step or two above the previous Box, simply because I've gotten better at PhotoShop.

Oh, Hellraiser how I've missed you so.

Qurodorah the Tar-Pit Demon

As you know, me and my dear friend (Hawanja) on the verge of starting our own independent giant monster movie entitled "Night of the Giant Monsters". Which we hope to fully complete sometime in 2014, to correspond with the hype for Legendary Pictures' "Godzilla" reboot. And of course, to also ride on the plausible wave of success, from the upcoming film "Pacific Rim" ([link]).

Unless the common movie-going public's complaints of 'it looks like a "Transformers" rip-off' is universal, and "Pacific Rim" crashes and burns because of which...Okay, that might be my natural cynicism speaking here, but let's face facts, and admit that a lot of people aren't recognizing the Kaiju Eiga influences of "Pacific Rim". And it is a real factor, that could hamper the film's box office performance...

I've already shared the planned film's lead alien rivals - ex-con parrot girl Para Paltu, and the mad calcium-based scientist The Terrible Tooth in the portraits featured below:

So now it is time to start talking about the film's Kaiju (giant monster) cast of characters, starting with one of its two gargantuan villains.

Qurodorah is a prehistoric demon made of dead bone and black tar, who lived around the more volcanically active regions of Late Cretaceous era America. Literally a mobile tar-pit, Qurodorah subsisted on various animal victims less out of survivor, and more for cruel amusement. Although Qurodorah did feed off the psychic misery and distress given off from his numerous tortures and kills.

However, the demon didn't reach truly gigantic proportions until the asteroid that triggered The Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction Event impacted the then ancient Earth. In the proceeding nuclear winter, the collective psychic misery of all of Earth's struggling creatures empowered the lone freak Qurodorah's growth, who soon after had a villainous holiday, by tracking down, torturing, and ultimately absorbing any of the unlucky survivors it came upon.

But like all the fleeting predators of this dark time, the prey started to lessen, Qurodorah started to weaken and ultimately die himself from lack of psychic livestock. And this fate was no doubt (if not ironically) escalated by Qurodorah's own simple-minded lack of hindsight...Though that idiotic behavior is to be expected with practically all villains in post-apocalyptic situations.

And that would have been the end of the horrible skull-faced Qurodorah, had the remains of the prehistoric demon not found their way into The Summoning Book of Vulthoom; a magical tome which houses hundreds of Kaiju from across forgotten history...and all ready to be released forth in our own modern times!

Qurodorah, which is a play on the Japanese word for the color black, will be played by yours truly, and happily so. And will be accomplished as a combination of full-body creature suit and puppetry, as I'll be holding my arms and hands outward, to operate the oily neck and skull.

The blob-ish body itself will be created through a mix of cloth sheets, shreds of black tarp plastic, and latex for the additional skin texture. While the skull puppet will be sculpted from thick Styrofoam, and than given a coat of Acrylic Gesso (or Spackle) for improved strength and painting surface.

Small, yet bright LDC lights will be placed within the semi-transparent prop eyes, though this last idea might be abandon, if it proves too difficult to execute.

The tentacle arms will be made with simple garbage bags wrapped into whip-like shapes, and then held together by glue and maybe even duct tape. And will be operated by outside strings, as well as simple reverse editing / camera effects, and related fight choreography.

And as you can tell, we really have Qurodorah's construction fully planned out, and as such, it will be the first true prop / creature costume you'll be seeing from us in the VERY near future...Possibly even for a certain Japanese animation expo, that happens once a year in Los Angeles, perhaps?

Okay, it looks like I might not be able to finish the other picture I had started before #SRTF's "CWCollateral: Hedgeclipper" event, but I got this done, despite a few last-minute add-ons so I think I'm okay for the moment. I'm also in the process of creating my own CWCollateral spin-off story, and making the cover for that took up a bit of time...along with school...and tests...and cooking and cleaning...

But I digress. At some point Marty's D. Walsh's pet, best friend, and accomplice Franken-Sonee will evolve into his "adult/mature" form, going from Undead Hedgehog Pokemon Larva to full on Undead Hedgehog Pokemon...in a sort of "Tomgirl" sense *points to face and tail*. I shared the rough sketch of this image with the #SRTF chat a couple of weeks back, and I got enough feedback that I decided to finish it.

In his evolved form, FrankenChu is faster, stronger, packs more electricity (and CWC Orange Soda), and has upgraded his diet to not just sonees and roseys, but sonichus and rosechus as well. The rosechu portions of his face and his tail have a tendency to confuse chus both young and old, thus causing them to let down their guard, which in-turn gives FrankenChu a much needed opening to attack and feed. Also, thanks to a LIESA-style voice box implant, FrankenChu is capable of full speech, unlike his "baby" form Franken-Sonee, who could only hiss and utter the word "Nee!" when he wasn't tripping and falling...a lot.

While I worked on this, I decided to create a layout that looks like it could be a sort of book cover. I'm actually going to use this template more in the future...such as for my spin-off as well as a few SRTF-themed gift covers for friends.

The little pink thing in the picture with FrankenChu ~Manajerkop's character "SUZI", a killer robot (LIESA Unit) in the guise of an electric hedgehog Pokemon larvae (rosey). She's sad that her friend "grew up", but all is not lost. They're still friends, plus TESLA-Chu is still her size. For her references, I looked at some of ~TatsuNoKoori's SUZI-themed art...because she draw the cutest version of SUZI EVER. She originally had TV-style scanlines over her eyes, but they got lost in the resizing. T_T

Mockup cover for a made-up book on John Carpenter's The Thing. This was done as an excercise on making and using custom brushes, and using textures and other elements. The skull was vector traced, then brought into PS to be manipulated and weathered. The rest was done with some painting, custom brushes and a little texture work.

Esta pintura surgiu a partir de um estudo feito a óleo sobre tela. Tire várias fotos, as quais utilizei como referência para posterior pintura digital no Photoshop. É interessante compreender que as regras básicas de uma pintura digital são muito semelhantes às ferramentas tradicionais, mas infelizmente muitos ainda ignoram o potencial que os atuais programas como o Photoshop têm a oferecer. Hoje, procuro sempre que possível unir estes dois pólos.

Baseada numa passagem do Livro de Nod ( complemento de Vampiro: A Máscara), no qual os primeiros sinais da grande guerra começam a surgir.
''[...] quando a trevas consumirem a terra e o sol tremeluzir como uma vela ao vento então, e apenas então, nascerá uma mulher, a última Filha de Eva, e com ela será decidido o destino de tudo''. (NOD, p. 102, 1999)

This painting came from a study done in oil on canvas. Take multiple photos, which I used as reference for subsequent digital painting in Photoshop. It is interesting to understand the basic rules of a digital painting are very similar to traditional tools, but unfortunately many still ignore the potential that current programs like Photoshop has to offer. Today, I try whenever possible to unite these two poles.

Based on a passage of the Book of Nod (complement of Vampire: The Mask), in which the first signs of the great war begin to appear.

I've done all my illustrations for Man Bites Man traditionally with pencil/ink on paper and finishing it up on photoshop adding the effects to achieve the desired result.

In the face of great adversity, humankind thrives on its ability to survive. The question raised is How far would you go?

In Man Bites Man we are cramped with five seemingly normal people within the confines of their basement with no food or communication, during a Zombie outbreak. Trapped for so long, it starts to appear as though the only way to stay alive would be by eating their last resource...each other.

The book is illustrated in black and white and has a very dark comedic tone. The intended audience would be any fan of survival/horror or the zombie subgenre. Man Bites man offers a new psychological spin on the survival-horror genre that might just leave your mind twisted in knots.

but only women who would not submit.

For all those quick fingers
broken in the vise.

For all those soft arms
pulled from their sockets.

For all those budding breasts
ripped with hot pinchers.

For all those midwives killed merely for the sin
of delivering man

Lovecraft, written in February/March 1931 and rejected that year by Weird Tales editor Farnsworth Wright on the grounds of its length.[1] It was originally serialized in the February, March and April 1936 issues of Astounding Stories. It has been reproduced in numerous collections.

I was way to young to read it and it gave me nightmares for months, but it left a fever within me for the macabre and the scary that exists to this day. Connect the Dots for Spice

Some marketing geniuses in the 80s decided to do a series of coloring and activity books based on David Lynch's super-fucked adaptation of Dune. This included a connect-the-dots puzzle of the guild navigator, which resembles, well, the baby from David Lynch's Eraserhead. Holy fuck what were they thinking.

So I uh, did the puzzle. And colored it. Yep.

Cyclopean Study

This image just popped into my head one night. Cthulhu reading peacefully in an Edwardian-style study. . . with a lacy tea coaster and a kitty cat(thulhu) curled up by the fire. I found the juxtaposition amusing. And yes, that is eldritch tea, because why the hell not.

If you look really closely (which is to say its only visible in the full sized version) at the ship-in-a-bottle on the shelf, its labeled as the Alert, one of the two ships featured in The Madness from the Sea

Also, its not actually legible, but in case you were wondering the writing on the side of the tea mug is this passage from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (along with the associated illustration), which I felt was curiously appropriate to the aforementioned juxtaposition of eldritch abomination and cozy reading by the fire (also one of my favorite literary quotes):

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
'You must be,' said the Cat, 'or you wouldn't have come here.'

The picture in the frame on the bookshelf (to the right of Cthulhu's face) was originally going to be 'Delirium', one of the pictures from my Insanitarium series, but it turned out to be too distracting, and too easy to mistake for a television, which in turn made it too easy to accidentally think Cthulhu was looking at the ~~television~~ picture instead of the book. This is a commission for a comic book cover that the buyer was looking to get published so I cant' say much about it other than that I had fun doing it and that ghost girl I think looks cool as hell. Went a bit nuts crosshatching. I love working on this stuff through ebay because I get paid in advance and money is an amazing incentive to do good work. Shocking.

Malice Mansion Book Jacket Design

Worked on this on the fall semester of '09, but I think I should show it to you guys. This is Malice Mansion (Project MM). A mystery/horror story about a fourth grade class stuck inside a haunted house with an evil ghost that kills them in gruesome ways one by one. I'm kinda back and fourth on the whole "horror" aspect in the comic, because people will feel uneasy seeing ten-year-olds getting killed. Yet, it's a cartoon...and my style probably makes it tolerable. I dunno, the details aren't set in stone yet so I shouldn't worry about it now.
