This is probably my least favorite from the series. For some reason she just looks the most labored of all of the images. She also ended up bearing a striking resemblance to the Night Elves in Warcraft (which is kinda weird cuz I modelled her off of my design of Apollo). I guess I shouldn't feel too bad considering the Night Elves were clearly inspired by Artemis anyway. Well, here she is, the twin to Apollo, virgin goddess of the hunt and herald of the moon.

*EDIT****** because I have been asked the same question a dozen times already.
YES I am aware there are ten nymphs instead of nine. Unfortunately, seeing as this is a pretty perfectly symmetrical image, I'm sure you all can see the issue with putting only nine nymphs, so there is a set of place-holder legs to balance out the image XD

(All in good fun guys, this assignment wasn't meant to be 100% accurate to the myth, it was meant to be a fun reinvention that's all<3)

The idea behind this project was to depict the mythical goddess artemis in a contemporary setting. artemis was the goddess of the hunt and nature (in greek art she's always depicted in a forest with a deer and occassionally dogs, but i decided to nix those) and she had nine beautiful nymphs that followed her around wherever she went, and she decided at an early age she never wanted to marry a man and wanted to be 'chaste' for the rest of her life. she also ran around shooting beautiful maiden's in the chest with arrows, and there was another myth where she, (another god in disguise) had an intimate affair with one of those nymphs.
so when i was thinking of modern day hunt, and all of these things, i decided artemis should be a pimp XDDD

this is a really new kind of thing for me. i never do designy stuff like those trees, and i rarely do such flat simple coloring, but the line drawing was so detailed i decided shading would be too much.

so enough rambling! XD

everything in this that appears any kind of sexual is purposeful, before anybody asks XD yes the candle is phallic XDDDD

and all those nymph hoes were SUPER fun to draw >D

She's the older twin sister of Apollo and she loves to be out ni the forest and the wilderness hunting and trekking together with her nymph friends. She never married, probably she didn't want to be trap in an indoors life with changing diapers on children and picking up laundry after some sloppy bloke. (Smart lass )

For those who were subjected to assault and had no way out of it, save to pray at the temple of Artemis. There they would find a plume of saffron to lay in their assaulters chambers and mark them for Artemis to exact justice. . . and that she did.

This was for Illustration II class. We were assigned to do a greek god/goddess with a specific, pre-determined month, I picked Artemis, the moon huntress, and she was paired with the month of October for the assignment. I had fun with this!

Artemis is one of the ancient greet goddesses . Daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of apollo.
She is the goddess of forest and hills , the goddess of the night, goddess of childbirth, lady of the beasts, and the goddess of the hunters. She is the personification of the moon and the eternal virgin.

Artemis association with nature, and the wild , are a symbol of her untamed spirit,, she had great huntingskills, and was a fearless and responsible hunter. But she also was very consistent in her protetion of the gentle animals that were the prey of many.
She was known to be impulsive but also vengefull when needed.
As a moongoddess she had the devine duty of bringing light into darkness ( new moon fase ) ..

Artemis-Goddess of the hunt and the moon.

Ah cold and pure Artemis... personally one of my favorite Goddesses and figures in the pantheon of Greek deities. Artemis asked Zeus if she could remain a wild and free maiden, hunting in the woods. And he, of course, said yes XD He gave her lop-eared hounds and a fleet of nymphs to hunt with her when the moon was full, shimmering off the grassy hills. Being the amazing huntress she was, she captured and tied four golden horned hinds to her silver chariot. After a wild hunt, the Goddess liked to bathe with her nymphs... that's when the fun starts >D God bless the Greeks... Actaeon, a simple hunter... with incredibly bad timing, happened upon Artemis while she was bathing one night... well, no human, especially a man, was allowed to see Artemis naked. So she turned him into a stag and basically let his own dogs rip him to shreds... nice eh? XD There was a prayer for mothers to Artemis but honestly, I bet it fell on deaf ears... as she was a chaste Goddess with no intention of having a family or so it would seem.
I went with a cool, silver, blue theme, since Artemis was Goddess of the moon and hunt. I mostly see her with drab browns and greens in drawings and paintings... well, I don't think she would have been drab lol I hope you all like it XD I am not sure who to do next but I am kinda leaning toward Cronus for some reason >.>'

This was completed around May I think. This is my version of the goddess Artemis for the Legends and Lore card set coming out this August. She's supposed to be a sniper/gunner of some sort in a post-apocalyptic setting. The tattoo on her hip means "arrow" matching her twin, Apollo.

Legends and Lore go on sale August 1 and they ship out August 15.

The Greek goddess Artemis. The group wanted she and her brother's towers/poses the same.

Straightforwarded on her allusions...the three-column design echoes Apollos, and a really bad (and I think inappropriate) allusion to her Roman coutnerpart, Diana, goddess of the moon; the triple-phase of the moon. The tree makes up for it, as she is the goddess of the forest/hunting/animals.

The Greek goddess Artemis was very protective of her purity, and punished any man who attempted to dishonour her. Actaeon, a hunter, accidentally came upon Artemis bathing naked in a secluded pool. Seeing her in all her naked beauty, Actaeon stopped and gazed, but when Artemis saw him, she transformed him into a stag. Then, incensed with disgust, she set his own hounds upon him, who tore him apart.

Artemis is being played by boom929-stock, and the waterfall is from heLpME-stocks, and the water comes from my own stocksite, stocktake.

Here is an old illustration that I was working on about a year and a half ago, the Greek Goddess Artemis. Never got to finish it because I lost my PSD files on my old desktop. But not so long ago I recovered it with a few others. I decided not to add a background because the inspiration I had at that time was lost. Long story short always back up your work lol. Enjoy!

She was often depicted with the crescent of the moon above her forehead and was sometimes identified with Selene (goddess of the moon).

She was armed with a bow and arrows which were made by Hephaestus and the Cyclopes.

god number 4 Artemis goddess of the hunt and wild animals
for her design i gave her a shorter and more free looking outfit than i was originally going to, and instead of gold i used silver to reflect her occasional stutus as a moon goddess, two of her animals are reflected in this too, her silver deer was used as inspiration for the bow and for her shoes ( made to look like hooves ) and i mixed in some buzzards feathers as well. lastly she was going to be a brunette to start with but i know my version of apollo will be blonde and since their twins so is she

anyway this was all done on paint like all my pictures so tell me what you think ^^

A poem of Callimachus the goddess "who amuses herself on mountains with archery" imagines some charming vignettes: at three years old, Artemis asked her father, Zeus, while sitting on his knee, to grant her six wishes. Her first wish was to remain chaste for eternity, and never to be confined by marriage. She then asked for lop-eared hounds, stags to lead her chariot, and nymphs to be her hunting companions, 60 from the river and 20 from the ocean. Also, she asked for a silver bow like her brother Apollo. He granted her wishes. All of her companions remained virgins, and Artemis guarded her own chastity closely. For the Contest, you had to create an equine God. I decided to create Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt. I really quite like this picture too. I used leaves in mane and tail for the wildness about her. Also they could be used to blend in with her background. She also has a quiver of arrows around her neck to help with hunting.

The designs on the quiver of arrows is in there to remind us of her grace and godlike qualities. She is wild, but still a Goddess.

I also added dapples on her body to look like jaguar spots that also help camouflage into the dark. I drew all the leaves, dapples, and quiver of arrows, and the mane and tail.

Artemis, daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister to Apollo, was the Greek goddess of forests and hills, child birth, fertility and the hunt.
Fiercely protective over her loved ones, compassionate and entirely self-assured, when reading about Artemis recently, my character Lavater came to mind.
She may not be the daughter of Zeus but she sure is an amazing lady.

My second submission of the day. This took me some time to do mostly because I repainted over some things to give them different looks (mainly just color and things no I'm not that good to repaint a dress or anything like that, LOL!!!) Now I have another piece in my gallery ([link]) that might seem like the same theme but that one wasn't meant to be a goddess but this one is. This one seems more goddessy (yes that is my word and it IS awesome) because she is all glowy and everything. I found this little bit of info about Artemis:

Artemis - possesses an introverted and independent temperament (polar opposite to Athena)--represents the goddess of Nature--concerned with matters of the outdoors, animals, environmental protection, women’s communities--she is practical, adventurous, athletic and preferring solitude. She symbolizes regenerative earth power over all living things. Both Artemis and Athena bore arms as protectress goddesses. Historically, Artemis was born quickly by her mother, Leto. However, due to a curse from Hera, Artemis was the one who, immediately following her own birth, assisted her mother’s delivery of her brother in a long and difficult labor. hmm i'm not sure why but the colour doesn't look as good on dA as the original file does on my comp screen SUCKS! kk anyway...this is for *sabanna's mythological contest here though now with the crazy deadline extension i think i'll probably have forgotten it by the time judging comes around... haha

i'm really excited about this piece!! it's the first one that i really put so much thought and detail into, i was trying my best to flesh out every bit of the forest and play around with light and colours and stuff. i hope it turned out well!

so anyway, this picture is depicting Artemis, goddess of the hunt, as she appears in my imagination. according to myths she was given a pack of seven dogs by Pan, two black and white, three reddish and one spotted, so here i depicted two of these dogs here according to how i imagined they would look like.

...but i guess they don't really look like dogs, since they came from my imagination! i thought the bigger one looked rather more like a fox or cat

in the myths Artemis caught six golden-horned deer to pull her chariots, so i wanted to depict her in the process of hunting down the first one. don't worry though she's aiming to incapacitate, not kill, the deer there's also a hawk accompanying her on her hunt because the buzzard hawk is apparently the favourite bird of Artemis.

and the moon in the background...well...obviously because Artemis is sometimes also called the goddess of the moon. so yeah there you have it

...also, point commissions are open, if you care to check it out here though i probably wouldn't do this type of super detailed time-consuming piece for points, i'd probably charge money instead. yup kk that's all

This is part one of a four part series where I am re-imagining Greek goddesses into something like modern day super heroes.

Artemis is the goddess of transition, hunting, and virginity. I wanted her to appear wild and of her element. Symbols of hers I included are the moon, forest, double axe, the wolf, lightening, birds (feathers), face paint, and the symbol of Artemis, which is on her arm.
