Hecate is the Greek goddess of the crossroads. She is usually seen with two ghost hounds that were said to serve her. Hecate is most often mispercepted as the goddess of witchcraft or evil, but she did some very good things in her time. One such deed was when she rescued Persephone, (Demeter's daughter, the queen of the Underworld and the maiden of spring), from the Underworld. Hecate is said to haunt a three-way crossroad, each of her heads facing in a certain direction. She is said to appear when the ebony moon shines.

Hecate or Hekate is a chthonic Greco-Roman goddess associated with magic and crossroads.

Hecate was the only child of the Titanes Perses and Anstaria and is a very complex goddess. My interpretation depicts her standing at the crossroads protecting travellers from evil spirits. She holds a lantern to light the way for the lost, and a spiritual compass to help them find their way. There are no destinations on the signpost because everybody arrives for different reasons and their choice if they are alive is an individual one but if dead, their destination is predetermined and in either case Hecate makes the journey easier.

Hecate or Hekate is a chthonic Greco-Roman goddess, asociated with magic, witches, ghosts, and crossroads. Hecate also came to be associated with ghosts, infernal spirits, the dead and sorcery. Over time, the association with keeping out evil spirits could have led to the belief that if offended, Hecate could also allow the evil spirits in. According to one view, this accounts for invocations to Hecate as the supreme governess of the borders between the normal world and the spirit world, and hence as one with mastery over spirits of the dead. Whatever the reasons, Hecate's power certainly came to be closely associated with sorcery.

Hecate, Hekate ( Hekátē ), or Hekat was originally a goddess of the wilderness and childbirth originating from Thrace, or among the Carians of Anatolia.In Ptolemaic Alexandria she ultimately achieved her connotations as a goddess of sorcery and her role as the 'Queen of Ghosts', in which guise she was transmitted to post-Renaissance culture. Today she is often seen as a goddess of witchcraft and Wicca.

H is for Hecate, the Greek goddess of darkness and the new moon.

This is part of a Photoshop Class assignment that we have. Essentially, we have to pick a theme, and then find a magazine picture or draw a drawing for each letter of the alphabet.

I chose the theme: Greek gods and goddesses. Because I love Greek mythology, and I'm stupid enough to draw 26 of them. I'm even taking it one step farther: eventually, I'll have 52 of them drawn to create a full deck of cards. Fun X).

So... despite the MANY MANY flaws that I see in this pic, I think it's my favorite so far. I WANT HER OUTFIT >=0.
LOL... I spent WAAAYYYY too much time on this picture... I mean, I planned to have it done by 4 pm... it's now 8 pm here... ROFL O_O;

Um... YEAH, I SUCK AT DRAWING MOONS/PLANETS >=0!!! And my comp was like dying when I was trying to make a background, so I just... airbrushed some black on it. Seriously, my comp did NOT like CGing this pic.

I might make this a print... I dunno, I kinda like it.

It's still kinda crappy though... I see a lot of problems with it. Oh well ~_~;

And to those who ASSUMED I'd be doing Hades... HAH O_O FOILED.

My version of the greek goddess, Hecate . here names, "she who works her will." she is also as the Triple Goddess. and the chief goddess presiding over magic and spells. she is also the goddess of the crossroads because she was triple-formed, with three bodies standing back to back, probably so that she could look in all directions at once from the crossroads.
also she is the guardian of the household and protector of everything newly born and she was the protector of shepherds and sailors.
Hecate represents Maiden, Mother and Crone also mind, body and spirit and birth, life and death, and as the goddess of the moon, she represents the three stages of the moon cycle of New, Full and Dark.
Hecate teaches us an important lesson, which is that the feminine should be valued for itself, not because it brings sexuality or -power, but because deep within it there is an eternal wisdom. she teaches us to be just and to be tolerant of those who are different or less fortunate, yet she is hardly a "softy" because Hecate dispenses justice "blindly" and equally.

One of her symbols is the torch, for the Dark Mother also holds the light which illuminates the Unconscious and reveals its treasures. With Her torches she guides those who are seeking the mysteries. The light from these torches will lead those wishing to understand the mysteries.

Finally done for now...the dog is based on my dog Echo.

HEKATE (or Hecate) was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. She was the only child of the Titans Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and sea.

Hekate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone, guiding her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion became she Persephone's minister and companion in Hades.

Two metamorphosis myths describe the origins of her animal familiars: the black she-dog and the polecat (a mustelid house pet kept to hunt vermin). The bitch was originally the Trojan Queen Hekabe, who leapt into the sea after the fall of Troy and was transformed by the goddess into her familiar. The polecat was originally the witch Gale who was transformed into the beast to punish her for her incontinence. Other say it was Galinthias, the nurse of Alkmene, transformed by the angry Eileithyia, but received by Hekate as her animal.

Alors, qu'est-ce qui a changé?
Au premier coup d'oeil vous verrez une chose et vous allez me dire ' les coussinets ne sont plus bleu ! ' Vous avez une bonne vision, mais ce n'est pas tout! Le reste ne se voit que lorsqu'on a l'ancienne version sous les yeux. Pour commencer, le gris foncé du pelage est plus foncé et un peu plus bleu que sur le ( précédent avait l'air verdâtre alors qu'il était bleuté o_O ).
Ensuite, les yeux et le signe sous les yeux sont un peu moins bleu et un peu plus gris ! Et pour finir, ici ça ne se voit pas beaucoup, mais le noir de son museau se prolonge un peu sur les poils des joues.
Et Voila!

J'espère qu'elle va vous plaire comme ça! ^-^

Edit : C'est Hecate et pas Hécate, oubliez ce ' é ' ça fait belle lurette qu'il existe plus! A bas la francisation

So this is the new ref for Hecate. The change are : they grey of her body fur is a bite darker and bluer. The bleu for the eyes and the sign is more grey. The black on her nose go on the jaw. And the bleu on the paw pads just go away for a dark grey color

My english sucks, so forgive me for it and don't cry cause I don't make exactly the same comment than in the french part ... I wish I could speak english like I speak french ... Amen ! XD

Hecate was a Goddess of the Underworld in Greek mythology. She was later associated with sorcery and witchcraft, haunting crossroads and graveyards, wandering only by night and seen by dogs, whose barking told of her approach.

Hecate was often represented with a pair of torches, a phial, a key (to the occult) and an athame, or dagger.
The pomegranate symbolises the Underworld, and the Theta symbol the lifeforce, or spirits, that Hecate watched over.

Here, I have taken the liberty of introducing some elements associated with Hecate's Norse counterpart, Hel, ruler of Helheim. These include the half white, half black hair, and the Ravens: Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory).

Voila le nouveau character sheet d'Hecate. Il n'y a pas grand chose qui change en fait xD c'était surtout pour en avoir un tout nouveau tout propre!

* Nom : Hécate
* Sexe : Femelle
* Âge : 3 ans
* Taille : 115 cm
* Corpulence : Mince et grande
* Famille : Pathéa et Ira (sur de lait), Nightquest (père adoptif), Tuomas (frère de lait), Eris { sur biologique dont elle ne connait pas l'existance }
* Rang : Assassin

* Caractère : Hecate est une louve qui n'aime pas vraiment la compagnie des autres loups. Seule les personnes avec qui elle a déjà noué de VRAIS liens sont les bienvenues à ses côtés. Elle aime parler en utilisant des phrases lyriques voir parfois poétiques.
De grandes pattes et une silhouette fine lui permettent d'atteindre une grande vitesse. Elle a une longue queue et des yeux unicolores.
Elle parle souvent avec froideur au autre, mais lorsqu'on arrive à passer au travers de ce masque, on trouve une louve qui à beaucoup de cur et qui mourait pour les gens qu'elle aime. En revanche, si elle ne vous aime pas, elle ne se privera pas de médire sur vous et de vous montrer sa rancune même si elle frappe plusieurs années après votre coup bas.
Hecate ne se confie pas facilement car sa naïveté lui à causé beaucoup de tort dans le passé. La louve déteste les louveteaux. Elle a tendance à souvent être perdue dans ses pensées, rêvant aux fées et aux dragons qu'elle aimerait tant voir (elle est persuadée qu'ils existent).
Elle ne supporte pas bien le soleil car elle et sa meute vivent dans un endroit très sombre. Le soleil l'ébloui au point de ne plus rien voir et est dangereux pour ses yeux. . Elle considère les corbeaux comme ses frères. Étant complètement butée, elle ferait n'importe quoi pour aller au bout de ses rêves les plus fou! C'est à cause de cela qu'elle fonce souvent tête baisée et qu'elle ne fait pas suffisamment attention au danger qu'elle ignore souvent volontairement.
Hecate n'est pas vraiment bagarreuse, elle ne cherche pas vraiment à se battre, même si un petit combat de temps en temps lui fait du bien. Elle préfère de loin défendre une noble cause en combattant que de détruire et se faire détruire pour des queues de cerises.
Elle détient en elle une rage endormie qui se réveille lorsqu'un sentiment de peur ou d'énervement trop fort s'empare d'elle. La louve ne peut alors plus se contrôler mais cela la fatigue beaucoup, se qui la met en grand danger si elle n'arrive pas à se reprendre.

* Histoire : Lorsqu'Hecate est née, on a découvert chez elle une sorte de maladie. elle avait les yeux unicolores. c'était le signe que la jeune louve n'était autre qu'une louve demi-déchue, une louve de Cien. c'est a dire qu'elle a du sang d'ange déchu dans les veines. les anges noirs se sont étains il y a des siècle, pourtant, la malédiction pèse encore... ses parents l'ont abandonné loin, très loin de leur terre, ils l'on laissé a la limite des terres de Cien. Hecate s'est retrouvée seule de terres glaciales alors qu'elle avait a peine ouvert les yeux... elle était sans parents. par chance, elle se fit recueillir par NightQuest. Il lui apprit à se battre et Hecate est fière de son apprentissage. Elle est maintenant très puissante, et tout le mérite revient a son ami qu'elle considère comme son frère.
autres caractéristiques ses yeux brillent lorsqu'elle est en colère ou heureuse, elle a des dédoublement de personnaliser lorsqu'une émotion très puissante prend le contrôle de son esprit. Elle devient alors redoutable. C'est d'ailleurs à cause de cette colère qu'elle a hérité de son collier.
Lorsqu'elle était plus jeune, une petite bande de chiens avaient décidé de s'en prendre à elle parce qu'ils trouvaient que les loups comme elle ne devait pas exister, que c'était des erreurs de la nature. Manque de chance pour eux, sa peur eut le dessus et la rage des loups de Cien monta en elle. Sans même se rendre compte de quoi que ce soit, elle devint une véritable machine à tuer. Epuisée et blessée, elle se laissa tomber sur le sol. Quelques heures plus tard, elle se redressa et compris ce qui s'était passé. Elle prit le collier d'un des chiens et le mis autour de son cou comme un signe de honte d'avoir tué des alliés. En rentrant chez elle, beaucoup prirent peur de cette louve pourtant si jeune que la rage avait envahi au point de tuer. D'autres la traitaient tout simplement comme une pestiféré, interdisant leurs enfants de l'approcher. Heureusement qu'une partie de la meute comprenait son acte, dont son alpha, Ezalia. Elle déclara qu'Hecate avait du se défendre, rien de plus.
Avec l'aide de son père, elle essaye de contrôler cette rage qui a tendance à s'évader beaucoup plus facilement si c'est déjà arrivé au moins une fois. L'entrainement est dur mais porte ses fruits.
Avec le temps, elle devint une assassin redoutable bien qu'elle a de grandes faiblesses qui pourraient un jour lui couter la vie. Mais son entrainement n'est pas terminé, il durera toute une vie au moins.

* Autre : Elle ne se nourrit que de la viande d'animaux carnivore ( ex : Lynx, loups, ours etc... )

Hecate is the daughter to the titans Perses and Asteria.
She is the godess of night, witchcraft, darkness and crossroads.

It is said that Hecate haunts (three way) crossroads at new moon and is acompanied by howling dogs and evil spirits.

Thats a bit about Hecate
I choosed her since everyone else entering the contest has choosen very wellknown gods and godesses. I didn't know about Hecate until I googled her up

Worked quite long with this piece, stared in late June and worked now and then on it. Didn't want to rush it so the resulte would be bad.

Put lots of hidden symbols that is associated with Hecate in the drawing, here is a list of them all:

- Notice that Hecate is standing on a crossroad.

- In the distance you can see cypress trees. Cypress is associated with Hecate and is a symbol of death and the underworld.

- It's newmoon. The time Hecate was said to haunt crossroads. Hecate's planet is also the moon, just like Artemis.

- There are evil spirits in the smoke to illustrate that she is a godess of death, evil and witchcraft.

- In some sources Hecate was also said to be the godess of the perverse sexuality, so I did her a bit sexier than I planned. Big breasts and Angelina Jolie lips.

Here's what inspired her:

She remembered the night she met him. It was the first day she had been away from the buildings, the neon lights, the flickering of lit cigarettes - the first time she had gone so far away from what she knew, and looked up to the sky. It was then, when she saw the vastness of the night sky, the stars, the universes it held, that he appeared.

"Hecate," the voice called softly. It brought her back from the vastness of space, the loneliness it created, the terror of complete silence. A boy stood naked in the grass before her, one slim hand held out to her. "Hecate," He said again. The beauty of him brought tears to her eyes. He was the beauty of the universe incarnate, every star and every planet, each nebula. He had emptiness for eyes, black holes where the white, iris, and pupil should be. His hair was long, each strand the color of one star. It blew in the wind as the stars glittered. The tone of his skin was that of a crescent moon high in the sky. His lips the shade of the sky before dawn.

As she looked at him, her fear came back, striking her like a bolt of pure terror. She took one step back, her eyes unable to look away from his. "Hush, now," His voice soothed the tension from her body. He moved until he was inches away from her, the same hand cupping her cheek, his gaze studious as he looked upon her. "I am Ouranos, your Nightmare." At her gasp his hand moved into her hair, fingers twining themselves between the locks. "I am what you fear most. Do you know what that is, Hecate?"

Two forces within her were fighting for dominance. One was overwhelming fear, the instinct of flight, to get as far away from his as possible. The other was reassurance, that while he was here, she would never have to expirence again the loneliness of the sky, the pure silence, of being lost in a vastness incomprehensible. He lips formed the word "No," although no sound came out. He chuckled.

"You fear being alone more then anything else, of being without the sounds of the city and the earth, of your breath and your beating heart. You never want to be lost without a hand to grab again, do you?"

"Ouranos..." She whispered, finally finding her voice. He bent close, his lips close enough that she could feel him warm breath tickle her ear. "And within me lies your darkness. The part of you you deny, the desires that cannot be voiced aloud. I embody them; your need for power, for subtly, for complete control. For blood and money, revenge, lust..."

And true to Ouranos' words, she shoved him away. She shook her head furiously. "No! I can't possibly want those things, I'm just a girl... a girl who wanted to see the stars." Her gaze was disrupted by the tears in her eyes.

"You saw them, Hecate, and you fear them. I am your Nightmare, and I control whether or not you shall ever be alone as you are when you turn those eyes skyward."

And so Ouranos was born, and Hecate met her fears.

Hecate - or Hekate (ancient Greek Ἑκάτη/ˈhɛkət) is an ancient Greek goddess, associated with the night, the Moon, crossroads, magic, witchcraft, necromancy and sorcery. A lover of solitude, Hecate was, just like many other greek female deities (Artemis, for example), a "virgin" goddess, unwilling to sacrifice her independent nature for the sake of marriage. Walking the roads at night or visiting cemeteries during the dark phase of the moon, the goddess Hecate was described as shining or luminous.

Hecate´s cult may have originated among the Carians of Anatolia, where variants of her name are found as names given to children. William Berg observes: "Since children are not called after spooks, it is safe to assume that Carian theophoric names involving hekat- refer to a major deity free from the dark and unsavoury ties to the underworld and to witchcraft associated with the Hecate of classical Athens." She also closely parallels the Roman goddess Trivia, with whom she was identified in Rome. She is commonly depicted as a "tripartite" deity: either having three different human heads, three animal heads, or even having three different human bodies united in one (I portrayed this "trinitarian" feature in a different way here...)

famille: Pathéa (sœur de lait), Nightquest (père adoptif) et Tuomas (frère de lait)
caractère Hécate est une louve qui n'aime pas vraiment la compagnie des autres loups. Seule les personnes avec qui elle a déjà noué de VRAIS liens sont les bienvenues à ses côtés. Elle aime parler en utilisant des phrases lyriques voir parfois poétiques.
De grandes pattes et une silhouette fine lui permettent d'atteindre une grande vitesse. Elle a une longue queue et des yeux unicolores, mais cela n'influence en rien ça vie.
Sa solitude lui permet de beaucoup réfléchir sur son sort, étant une louve maudite... Elle parle souvent avec froideur au autre, mais lorsqu'on arrive à passer au travers de ce masque, on trouve une louve qui à beaucoup de cœur et qui mourait pour les gens qu'elle aime.
Hécate ne se confie pas facilement car sa naïveté lui à causé beaucoup de tort dans le passé. La louve déteste les louveteaux. Elle a tendance à souvent être perdue dans ses pensées, rêvant aux fées et aux dragons qu'elle aimerait tant voir (elle est persuadée qu'ils existent).
Elle ne supporte pas le soleil, étant une louve "vampire", elle serait immédiatement brulée si il la touchait et si elle y est exposé trop longtemps, elle finirait en tas de cendre. Elle considère les corbeaux comme ses frères. Étant complètement butée, elle ferait n'importe quoi pour aller au bout de ses rêves les plus fou! C'est à cause de cela qu'elle fonce souvent tête baisée et qu'elle ne fait pas suffisamment attention au danger qu'elle ignore souvent volontairement.
Hécate n'est pas vraiment bagarreuse, elle ne cherche pas vraiment à se battre, même si un petit combat de temps en temps lui fait du bien. Elle préfère de loin défendre une noble cause en combattant que de détruire et se faire détruire pour des queues de cerises.
Elle détient en elle une rage endormie qui se réveille lorsqu'un sentiment de peur ou d'énervement trop fort s'empare d'elle. La louve ne peut alors plus se contrôler mais cela la fatigue beaucoup, se qui la met en grand danger si elle n'arrive pas à se reprendre.
histoire Lorsqu'Hécate est née, on a découvert chez elle une sorte de maladie. elle avait les yeux unicolores. c'était le signe que la jeune louve n'était autre qu'une louve demi-déchue, une louve de Cien. c'est a dire qu'elle a du sang d'ange déchu dans les veines. les anges noirs se sont étains il y a des siècle, pourtant, la malédiction pèse encore... ses parents l'ont abandonné loin, très loin de leur terre, ils l'on laissé a la limite des terres de Cien. Hécate s'est retrouvée seule de terres glaciales alors qu'elle avait a peine ouvert les yeux... elle était sans parents. par chance, elle se fit recueillir par NightQuest. Il lui apprit à se battre et Hécate est fière de son apprentissage. Elle est maintenant très puissante, et tout le mérite revient a son ami qu'elle considère comme son frère.
autres caractéristiques ses yeux brillent lorsqu'elle est en colère ou heureuse, elle a des dédoublement de personnaliser lorsqu'une émotion très puissante prend le contrôle de son esprit. Elle devient alors redoutable.

Parce que je ne pouvais simplement pas te faire qu'un seul petit badge en sachant que t'allais passer du temps à me faire un effet fur magnifique ! ça n'aurait pas été équitable ! This is from my parallel universe where Usagi and Chibiusa are switched. so are Diana and Luna.

Here we have Hecate, which is Luna's black moon form when she joins Ebony and is corrupted by Wiseman. I was going for a pagan priestess look for her. and what she had painted all over her...i really don't know if it's blood or paint. XD and she has a cool little belly button piercing with the black moon symbol hanging from it.

Hecate Trimorphe Triodia Phosphorus @ Styx w/Cerberus ([link] explains epithets)

for: De-Cliche and Surreal It Challenge @ level 3

In this image, I tried to play with the concept of cliche, both approaching cliche, but backing away from it also, as per the challenge, via my treatment of the image: instead of some swooning woman in a graveyard, I took an image that might be used as such, or in steampunk manipulations, and turned her into the Goddess Hecate. Her image is straight from the stock photographer, except that I have combined 3 views of her into one (Trimorphe) so she has 3 heads, and 8 arms, similar to Vedic Goddesses. Further, at her side is her trusty canine Cerberus, also 3-headed. She stands at a triple crossroads (magically jutting forward and out and up to each side: Triordial)) and as she appears, the multiverse folds in/out on itself, with the River Styx splashing in the background and a magical fractal lightshow obscuring the (cliched) Moon: Phosphorus, with the very cliched, flat cauldron. I tried to create the image in a triangular construction, and the lightest and most colorful parts of the image focus on the faces of the Goddess, and secondarily the dog and background. The (cliched) triple nature of the Moon, obscured in it's full view, by fractals that echo the waxing and waning views, is hidden by the sur-reality of the magic of the fractals, as Hecate is the Goddess of magic, the moon, and crossroads, especially to the underworld.
