Mmm llevamos hace como tres semanas haciéndola... un proceso muy muy largo y de muchooooo cuidado y paciencia... especialmente los últimos detalles. Todavía siento que le puedo meter más cosas... pero son detalles mínimos que casi ni se notarían..

Estoy contento de como me quedó superó mis expectativas. Lo más dificil fue el pelo... ya que en illustrador cuesta darle tanto realismo a las cosas, ya que ese programa es mas que todo para vectores y cosas planas... Pero me gustó mucho la experiencia y creo que me quedo muy bien para ser mi primer trabajo realista a compu Comenten!!

Edit: Somebody told me there is a sweet tool in Illustrator CS5 called the Width Tool. It lets you change the width of lines at specific points without having to convert strokes to outlines! I suggest you use that. Check out this tutorial: [link]
All you need to do is add a width point at the end of the stroke, double-click it, and change the total width to zero.

Edit two: I was informed of the "Draw Inside" tool also found in CS5. This tool automates the usage of clipping masks and makes them much easier to use. Check out a video here!

I redid my last deviation in vector art in illustrator. This is the first time I've done anything with Illustrator, I'm really happy with the result. The finished lineart was rasterized in photoshop where I did the coloring and shading and added the background. Just a warning, this is a huge file. It's also the right aspect ratio to be used as a desktop wallpaper, and because the quality is so high, I may even make this a DA print if anyone has any interest.

An original fantasy landscape/cityscape, done entirely in Adobe Illustrator CS6. Though it is entirely my own creation in both composition and subject matter, I definitely had inspiration from numerous sources; the cities of Minas Tirith and Osgiliath from the Lord of the Rings in particular. It was the final project for an Adobe Illustrator class at college this past semester. I put probably 20-30 hours of work into this.

The original is 39" x 16", and yes, I actually got to print it out at that size on a school printer.

It isn't perfect; someday I'd like to go in and make a few more tweaks here and there. Someday...

Well, I decided to do Phasers2stun in Adobe Illustrator, in the first step of turning her into a butterfly. Johnny Depp was easier, because he is such a character and so dirty and messy. Phasers2stun is so delicate, and the difference in tones are so minor that you have to be a magician to get the slight nuances that make up her hair and eyes. One of these days I'm going to learn how to paint with Adobe Photoshop, and learn how to paint with it. I love the effects people can get, including my son, and I need to make time and learn it. Well, now that I've done her head I guess I have to get back to figuring out what kind of Butterfly she will be.

I swear to god that this graphic design assignment by my down-to-earth lecturer Kurt Fischer was a combination of emotions during it's process:

Frustration and erm... More frustration? (lol)

Seriously I felt moments of disbelief and dare I say hints of despair working on this +40 hour project. I mean what is the point when you can do this with other better graphic applications?? For $@!#?! sake!!! Garrgh!

I've lost count of the amount of layers, vector points and hours applied on this piece... It almost felt pointless doing it at a lot of instances, but I just knew that I had to finish it.

And so I did, today.

I guess what I can honestly gain from this assignment is a product that I can look back onto for the enduring experience of learning how to manipulate a photo realistic image through Illustrator. At least I have gone though the hours learning how to utilise some tricks to achieve visuals I wouldn't thought possible in Illustrator - techniques involving the 'gradient mesh', 'Gaussian blur', pattern-texture making etc...

I can say to myself that I would have probably learnt something that would have taken months to do but instead opt for a non-stop 40 hr trip condensed exercise. I was mad enough to go through two burnouts (never experienced this before and I don't wish it upon others either).

So yeah this was one of those assignments that looked really awesome from face value but until you delve into it you're going to go through some hell to make it worth your time. I'm just thankful that it's finally over...

Anyways I'm done, I'm through, I had enough of this project - I still got nine more assignments due in 5 weeks time. Better get onto it!

Illustrator Stroke Width Tool Tutorial

You need Illustrator CS5 or later to use the techniques discussed here. While this guide discusses vectoring ponies, the techniques can be applied to any stroke width modification.

While not mentioned above, you can save stroke width profiles for later use. To do this, select the path, then in the (fully expanded) Stroke pane, click the down arrow next to Profiles, then click the Add to Profiles button. The next time you need that profile, simply select the path, then click the proper profile.

[link] has stroke width profiles that can be easily applied to common things such as legs and eyelashes. Use my technique above for more complex items, such as the muzzle.

il soggetto non è un disegno inventato da me, ma è una ricostruzione fatta ad illustrator gia esistente...è stata una faticaccia perkè è da poco che lo usiamo come programma e ho dovuto inventare un po e trovare qualche scappatoia, ma posso dire che è lo sputo perfetto del disegno originale, che ovviamente ho lasciato a scuola nela pennetta del prof. ma che sia uguale alla fine non importa,credo che sia un bel lavoro (almeno spero) ed è in vettoriale

Gotta love the mesh tool.

right top: source image, of Boa I think.(downloaded off some image board somewhere while looking for reference for cloth folds).

EDIT:
Done some more on this.

Started on the face. I do like how the nose came out. The left eye needs the lashes added and a few details more. Also I need to edit the area of skin around the eye to blend it in better. The eye and mouth are seperate meshes put on top to allow me to detail them without making the face mesh overly dense. Also I need to Add the other eye and eyebrow.

Added a few more areas of cloth. (I think though that i will be redoing a lot of the clloth areas witha different topology that will enable me to keep the mesh density down and add cleaner detail to the stitching. The method used atm is too dense and if I were to use this method to add the stitching in would be a nightmare.
The hair will be a lot of fun methinks, but prob gonna curse many a time before it's finished.

1931 Buick Illustrator Final
Illustrator CS4, 11X17

Finals assignment for Illustrator class, execute an object using Gradient Mesh. I chose to do my 1931 Buick as posted in my gallery in a photograph for Photo Imaging class earlier [link] .

I got a good start on this, focusing on getting the headlamps and driving lights first, then on to the bumper, horns and grill. And then i ran out of time and had to fly through the rest of it. It’s a shame! No tread on the tires, no louvers on the hood, no door hinges, no side-mirror lights...and the rear tire is just a repeat of the front tire scaled down. And no reflections in the body or window of the car...and i needed more time to get the dark shadow spots near the tires coordinated with the shadow of the body.

But that’s school work, especially at Final’s Time. So i presented what i had, the Professor loved it, and i ended up with an A in the class. The client was happy, and that is enough for now.

Illustrator 10: Hugh Jackman

(Also submitted to my portfolio page at ~JocelynCombe. Just so no one accuses me of stealing from myself XD)

A collage done in Illustrator 10 for my class. We were required to choose a celebrity, and the style we were asked to take from was mostly based on the art-direction of the film "Through A Scanner, Darkly".

Hugh Jackman, flanked by his wife and children on one side. The 'cowboy' on his shoulder represents Broadway (one of his Broadway roles was as Curly in Rogers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!".) Above the shoulder is Wolverine from X-Men, which represents his involvement in Hollywood. The background (and also showing through his chest) is the Union Jack (Australia's flag), representing his birthplace. The treble cleft in the middle of it is my own addition, further symbolizing his love for music.

I chose Hugh because he is a family man, and a triple threat (he can sing, dance and act.)

I wasn't going to upload this, but it's been A MONTH since I uploaded anything. D: My computer is still broken, sorry guys. I know I need to finish my art trades. T_T My goal is to upload at least one picture per week, so it's actually worth watching me...

ANYWAYS THE PICTURE YAY! So I am taking an Adobe Illustrator class, and our first project was to make 3 distinct patterns that go well together, using only the shape tool. So I made this madness using ONLY circles and triangles. Then I put it all together pretty much by hand...in the next session I learned all the shortcuts that would have allowed me to make this in half the time. I thought I did the project wrong, but the other students and my teacher really liked it. He told me when the class is over, I will be an Illustrator ninja. YES, I am finally going to school to become a ninja, it was only a matter of time...

One last thing, the raw file is huge and clean...I don't know why the jpeg exported so crappily. When I figure out how to make it nicer, I'll change it.
