Story:

Cocoa Bean is a unicorn who wanted to become just like his father, a carpenter earth pony. As he grew up and started learning the profession, he refused to use any magic - if his father could do it with his bare hoofs, so should he. But, as he was not an Earth pony - who are the physically strongest pony type - he couldn't lift heavy things or hold the instruments very well. Still, being stubborn, he didn't listen any advice and kept restraining his magic and over-working his body.

One day, when trying to fix a leaning tall bookshelf, he couldn't hold it anymore and it fell on him. The impact could have been terrible and Cocoa Bean would certainly break a few bones if his father didn't jump in and shielded him with his own body. Fortunately, he didn't get hurt, except for a little scar on his cheek, which never completely healed.

After that day, Cocoa Bean kept that memory as a reminder of all the bad things that might happen if he kept trying to be something he wasn't, and started trying to learn carpentry while using his natural gifts. A while later, he build his first thing by himself: a three legged stool, which in that moment became his cutie mark.

Done in Illustrator CS2.

Dundee "Invasion": Unicorns Converge On Scot City For Fun, Wedding of Human Friend

Every man wants their wedding to be a day they will never forget. William Macdougall of Dundee, Scotland has certainly got his wish--though he may be hearing more thundering hoof-steps than church bells in the years to come, for one name on Mr. Macdougall's guest list was that of Lyra Heartstrings, who graces the front page of this edition of the Times. Naturally, her presence at the ceremony caused quite a stir (as 500-foot unicorns are apt to do, but I am not one to place blame for what cannot be helped). Clad in a flowing, airy dress and wearing an assortment of fresh Equestrian flowers in her mane, Miss Heartstrings stood out for reasons besides her stature.

While she was certainly an eye-catcher on her own, Lyra was only one of a small gaggle of towering mares thundering through Dundee that day. (It is for the sake of good taste that I shall avoid making a pun on the phrase "wedding crashers"). As Miss Heartstrings peeked through one of Nethergate Church's stained-glass windows at her longtime friend and his bride--obviously too large to fit inside the house of worship itself--one Rarity Belle could be seen tracking down her unruly cat through Dundee's dockside districts, mumbling apologies to passerby and trying to somehow balance speed with carefulness as she squeezed between taller buildings and stepped over warehouses, cranes, and dockworkers in her search for the elusive feline. One witness described the irate mare's annoyed gait as "like an angry mother stepping through a minefield after a defiant child".

Unfortunately, details on the other Equestrians in the city that day are scarce. But for now, it is known that close friends of the aforementioned Misses Heartstrings and Belle were among them, and that at least one of the prodigious unicorns was likely at the nearby Royal Army fort at Edinburgh Castle.
