Continuing my Summer of Austen reading, it was time to re-read her masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice, published 1813 (review here: [link]. This one had SO many characters, I just had to narrow it down purely for space! But I really like how a lot of these turned out, especially Bingley and Lizzy and Collins. Darcy was driving me crazy at first, but I think he turned out all right. (Incidentally, it was difficult to get the A&E cast out of my head while I was reading/drawing, so many of them are just so perfect and so ingrained in my brain as their characters.) Such a brilliant story! And plenty of Miss Bennets to go around.

Winter was finally behind us in my Equestria dreamscape, [link] and throughout Equestria ponies were starting anew with planting new crops and starting new projects. Out at our little cottage [link] Rainbow Dash was continuing in her studies and preparation for the Best Young Flier Competition.

After some initial uncertainty [link] Dash has been a pretty good student. [link] Once Petina and Carousel were able to get Dash through the first hurdles and got her focused she attacked her training with the same gusto she attacks anything she's passionate about. Within in a couple weeks she was getting a knack for the pole. Now came the tricky part.

RD wasn't interested in just learning pole dancing, she wanted to incorporate some of Petina and Carousel's stage tricks into her flight routine to make it something that would be truly unique. This was tricky since Petina and Carousel are not pegasus ponies. They have plenty of experience with exotic dancing [link] [link] but aerobatics was uncharted territory for them. So myself and Rainbow Dash were sent on a covert mission to the Ponyville Library to acquire books on the topic. Petina figured that two pegasus ponies borrowing books on the topic would raise less suspicion with Twilight than her and Carousel trying to check out books on the subject. Also we were asked to look for any books on traditional pegasus dance to see if there were any elements that could be included into RD routine.

The expedition was of moderate success, and we were able to check several books on the subject of pegasus aerobatics. Unfortunately there was little on the topic of traditional pegasus dance. Although Celestia's star student said she could make an inquiry with the main library in Canterlot to see what they might have. Hopefully she'd have an answer in a couple days. If that didn't work there always was the Cloudsdale Library to try. RD thanked her friend and then we left with our reference books.

Then the roles were reversed and for the next couple days Rainbow Dash was the teacher as she lectured my two roommates on basics of flight and aerobatics and gave flight demonstrations over our little cottage. After a few days the three mares had a plan of action and were ready to start expanding Dash's stage to the clouds. Next on the to do list was seeing what Rarity had come up with for RD's performance.

Aang the Ninja, Airbender/Naruto CrossOver

I started sketching for my Avatar: The Last Airbender/Naruto crossover images.
This is Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender as a Ninja in the world of Naturo by Masashi Kishimoto.

Overly Detailed Explanation of Character:

Aang is an air bender, and I have always thought that his tattoos are definitely part of what makes him so recognizable. So, I wanted to keep a good part of them visible. I gave him a mesh undershirt (very Naruto) and mesh armbands that mirror his sleeves in TLA (The Last Airbender). I pulled the basic colors from the airbender monk outfit, but I kept the zori (ninja shoes) blue, which is traditional for most ninja.

I was torn between making Aang's Hitai-ate (Forhead protector) with the air symbol from TLA, or Kumogakure (Village Hidden in the Clouds). I decided to go with the air symbol from his host show. He wears it around his neck because he is sensitive about hiding his arrow (referencing to his objecting to the headband in the beginning of book three). It also mimics the collar from the traditional Airbender monk uniform.

I chose for Aang to have wraps around his lower legs because one, I didn't want him to have even more mesh, and two, it helps reflecting the basic shape of his clothing from TLA. While I really really like the pants, I know that his Shuriken Holster is absent from his thigh, which isn't very ninja-like. While not all ninja wear them, most do. Maybe Aang is just special. haha

In his hip pouch, he carries the traditional kunai and shuriken as well as scrolls used from summoning. He is able to summon spirits to assist him, such as the ocean and the moon spirit, as well as Hei Bai. He can also summon Momo. He can also use a summoning technique to summon all kinda of air bison, but he almost always uses Appa. I am planning on drawing Momo and Appa in the Naruto style with Aang in the near future.

On Aang's chest, I created a kind of airbender logo. I figured that because I do not speak any language fluently besides English, I really shouldn't try to put Japanese (or Korean [Avatar is Korean based]) characters anywhere.
I designed a couple staffs for Aang. One of them is basically his normal staff with the airbender symbol i designed and is recolored. The other one is simular to Temari's fan, which I thought would be a good bridge to use as reference for a glider in the Naruto world.

Ignore the writing/blur on the top of the left page. That is for a different project.

i hope i finally shaded the nose right. i think it looks preeeeeetty good i guess. and as always, i suuuuuuuuuucked at drawing the eye >.< that's like the most important part in a close up! welp, i 'm sure i can fix that in photoshop (still have that robot eye i made last year. i'll just use that)
