My Neighbor Kurama

You have no idea how creeped out I was working on this, all the while being stared at by Totoro-Kurama. Hahaha! He's kinda cute though, at least fluffy and nice to hug maybe?

Background info on the artwork:

One of the more recent developments in Naruto that really gets me is the transition of the relationship between Naruto and Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. It's been rough, but now, oh man. That brofist in the Niwaka Ame Nimo Makezu anime opening... ~~BEST BROMODACHIS 5EVER~~

Ahem.

To commemorate their new bond, I wanted to draw a series of artworks of Naruto and Kurama as other famous human and creature companion pairs. First up is this — My Neighbor Kurama

Little Naruto was fun to draw in the style of Studio Ghibli. I hardly had any difficulties with the little tyke.

Kurama is another story, though. I don't know which is scarier, the original form of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox or this thing I've drawn. Hahaha! Also, I've learned that it's a bit of a challenge positioning nine tails.

To be honest, Totoro has always kind of scared me even though everyone keeps going on about how cute he is. It was quite amusing to take that fear on another level and splice him with the Kyuubi. I'm definitely scared now!

I suppose this is also appropriate considering that during Naruto's early childhood, the Kyuubi was this thing lurking inside him that he didn't quite understand and caused much dread and apprehension.

(Just to share, I was creeped out by Totoro even before finding out about the Sayama Incident theory. Whether or not it is true, I do enjoy that idea and I felt it gave the movie much more depth. Read at your own discretion! Possible childhood ruiner if you don't like creepy things, hahah)

Process:

I had a lot of fun working on this, and am quite happy with the end result! The process was pretty simple.

I started the sketch on paper, scanned it, then inked and colored it in Photoshop. Just normal round brushes on Naruto and Kurama. I painted the background in Photoshop as well, using some textured brushes. One was called Flat Charcoal, and the other was like, Oil Pastel or something. I'm bad at names, hahah.

I'll post an entry about this (and the two other pieces in this series) on my art blog soon!

"After Boo was saved, Sully and Mike realized they no longer required scares for cash, thus forcing Mike into a new line of business; comedy.

As Mike continued his stand-up routine with the children in hopes for laughs, Sully partied and wasted money that he didn't have. The problem is: the world didn't care, it was Sully, a hero and role model. And everyone loves Sully. Everyone but the one living in his shadow.

Mike was tired of it. Tired of lowering himself to telling jokes, only to hurt himself in the process over, and over again. Mike decided to have a talk with Sully about it, but was continuously avoided. Angered, Mike followed Sully one day, only to realize he was headed for the home of Mike's girlfriend, Celia.

Mike rushed home, shocked to find the two talking. His anger got the best of him and he attacked Sully. Out of defense, Sully struck Mike, catching his one-eye. Out of confusion and anger, Mike launched his nimble body into Sully, peircing him with his horns, killing him.

As Sully laid dead on the floor, Celia screamed, blaming Mike for the death of him. She then told Mike that he wanted to surprise him with a new job, and was just talking with her to help surprise him.

Devastated, and now wanted by the Monster City Police, Mike ran. He had to go where no one could ever find him, so he travelled to the old Monster's Inc factory. Mike opened one of the Doors, and was transported to Earth to live amongst the humans, banishing himself from Monstropolis.

This is where Mike was broken, and dwelled on the city streets, among those that looked down upon him.

To this day, no one knows what happened to Mike, and no one ever will."

Spider-Man and Batman are two of my all time favorite Characters....which lead me to have this idea for a while of combing both of what I love about Spider-Man and Batman and combine the both of the 2 worlds together. The definition of a Dragon Caller:

When I saw an image of Muromi, I though "urrrgh, that must be an horrible shoujo anime about mermaids...", but I decided to give a try and watch at least the first episode (I always try to give a try since Madoka). It turned out to be a shounen comedy show, lol
I can say that Azazel and Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san are the most insane animes of this season. So, if you like nonsense, if you don't care about pretty style and want to laugh a bit, I recommend them

Digital Optimization of a sketch of Ms. Marvel (Carol Susan Jane Danvers). After meeting the Kree hero Captain Marvel, Carol was exposed to radiations that transformed her into a superior warrior. She took the name of Ms. Marvel & established herself as a key heroine. She also became a member of the Avengers.

This sketch was created by the amazing Humberto Ramos (famous for his contributions to DC Comics (Superman, The Flash, JLA), Marvel (Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers...) but also for Fairy Quest or Crimson, that he created) - I did some washing, boosted the colors, played with few effects & added the background.

Elvish: will be translatedIt is a love story between Thranduil and my character, Elysia from 'Roar of Doves'. I couldn't resist doing a series of pictures for it because I enjoyed reading it so much!I'm basing them on classical paintings to give that 'authentic' look to a story with a fairy-tale/legend theme to it. This second picture is inspired by Leighton's painting called 'Godspeed'[link]

The illustration is based on an incident in the second chapter: TSATS, Chapter IICHAPTER II – The Swan and the King

Happy Birthday, Ahmad! Birthday present for my amazing friend . This is supposed to be a surprise (hopefully I've been trying very hard not to blurt out during conversations that I'm finally painting her). I've been promising to do this painting for endless ages and I decided that it would be a great BD surprise.

This is the Evil Queen Regina from "Once upon a time" TV series played by the gorgeous Lana Parilla. I totally adore her character too so this painting was a great fun and pleasure to work on. Not to mention the collar was a delightful challenge. I think I'm no longer afraid of painting a shitload of sparkling bling-blings.
