Anyway, something that has always fascinated me with cameras (namely still, but video sometimes surprises me) is what happens when people try and make abstract art with them. Cameras, practically by definition, are devices designed to record reality. Sure, they can be quite easily manipulated into creating new realities, fantastic places full of unlikely people doing impossible things, but what about non-realities?
What can you say about a photograph that doesn't look at all like a photograph? Moreover, what can you say about a photograph that doesn't look like a photograph of anything? Photography is essentially painting with light, so why not swap actors and sets for brush-strokes? There's a great group I belong to on Flickr called artefakto laboratory [link] that explores this notion with some really cool results.
