As a general rule it is better to keep things simple, not just if you are a beginner. Remember the following points when you design your page:

1. Mock it up Try your design in Photoshop first (or which ever app you have) that way you can play with colours and styles without needing to refresh your journal too much.

As :devDjTalyn: stated very well, more than half of the job offers posted [on DeviantArt Forum] are fake. By fake I mean that you will submit your work and never hear from that person again. You won't get paid or receive any kind of compensation. There are genuine offers but they are so slim that you have to be very careful. First of all, staff have been deleting one of the most annoying types of "news" that we've seen a lot of in v5: self-promotion. Although the new news system was originally touted as a no-moderation zone, the "i just maked new dev check it out!" posts have, thankfully, been disappearing for a while now. Undelivered Mail: Return to Sender

Lately we have been receiving anywhere from 6-10 emails per day to payment-support@deviantart.com stating that an email cannot be delivered to the recipient. The most common reason for the return is that the recipient no longer exists.
