Lightning bugs in the twilight sky,
Chemically,
Their bodies are glowing like fire.
The green humid air of summer dreams calls them in,
And they settle in the fresh grass,
Until the world begins to spin.
The whiz about gracefully
Making no sound,
Lighting the sky until the stars come ‘round.

We chase them, catch them,
And the little bugs fly free,
They play until dawn—
