Earlier that day, she was just finishing up scrubbing the kitchen floors, and looking forward to seeing her puffins soon. Though the mother smiles she also yet weeps, for her child has been born under the sign of the shadow, and as is custom in Argonia the child will be taken and trained as a ruthless killing machine.
