Note: This is actually still incomplete. The pencil need some more work and i need to work on the shadows on the hand. but i worked on this so long anyways, i hope you guys like it ^^ and excuse the lame title lol.

I haven't used my Copics for over a month now, so I colored a doodle to warm up again. I felt a bit rusty at first with hand inking and coloring, but getting back in shape now!

I went to downtown Disney this week, and it was a lot of fun :'D Please don't sue me for using your Mickey Mouse logo, Disney OTL;;
She's not from anything, but I thought Apple would make a cute name for her.

Yan is a Candle Woman. Technically, she is 100% body fat, being composed entirely of lipids and fats. She becomes rigid and uncooperative at low temperatures, and lethargic at high temperatures (often just lying in a puddle of her own hair). The flame atop her head is an outlet for the energy she burns at the cost of her body mass. To this end, she requires a greasy diet in order to maintain her existence. It doesn't mean she eats rich foods necessarily (she cannot process carbs and proteins), but she does eat tallow like bread and drink oil like water.

Steiner is a Lamp Man. He was created by dressing up a lamp post in a suit, and then given lectures on How To Be a Gentleman by a professor of Gentlemanology. And now he is the very model of chivalry. Ironically, though he emits light from his head for all to see, he is blind. Apparently that is how lamps normally are. Nobody knew this about lamps until they noticed he didn't seem to know what people were talking about and kept politely declining all invitations to move in any direction.

Well, this was a fun picture to work on! In particular I enjoyed coloring and lighting this piece (which I guess is pretty much everything you see in it...?). I suppose more specifically, I enjoyed trying to make stronger shadows than I normally would. I think that will be something I'd like to work on more in the future: playing with the hue and saturation of shadows, and experimenting with the balance of it in the composition.

half of the reason why i made this comic is because i want to make a story dedicated to the people who are having a hard time telling others about their problems or feeling the need to keep them to themselves only. either it's because they're afraid to do so or because they feel the need to maintain a good image in front of others and not wanted to be looked weak and so on.

i made this comic because i always feel this way. this is probably why people hardly ever see me making rant journals and everything ^q^)>

but i feel much better recently when i force myself to open up to some of my friends and my parents. it feels less lonely and kinda nice since like... you know someone seem to understand and want to support you kinda thing.

i hope those who are having the same problem will find the courage and try to open up themselves too to the others and get a move on with their fear. :'D

...and with a mighty heave and a heavy sigh, I climb over another Artist's Block. These things just get longer and longer...

Anyhow, in case you haven't guessed it yet, this is a suspicious cat. Who is he and what is he doing? Is he waiting for someone? If you keep staring, maybe the answer will come to you!

Alright, so this is one of my less interesting/original ideas, but it was fun enough so that's all that matters (for me). I had originally planned out this other pic armor and guns and everything, but halfway through laying down the linework I realized I was dissatisfied with the form and was not enjoying the detail, so instead I drew a cat with a mustache. Not regretting it so far.

It was a nice change of pace to just draw something impulsively without much planning; I think I may want to do more things like this in the future as opposed to intricate character designs.

I think the thing I'm most pleased with is the color and bloom. The thing I'm least pleased with is the confusion in light source and perspective. Oh well, live and learn.

EDIT: I suspect a number of you are having trouble perceiving the distance. The cat is in the foreground, sitting on the same bench as the girl.

EDIT2: Since so many people keep asking me about this, the secret to the bloom (or the glowy light, if you're unfamiliar with the term) is to create a radial gradient (white inside, black outside) as a movieclip and put it on the stage with blendmode = add. Slide the colors around and adjust the brightness, and you get a nice subtle glow. If none of that made sense to you, then you're probably not ready to try it yet.

You'd have to play Portal to understand. (Or not, this is pretty senseless.) I'd been meaning to do something Portal related forever. Great, great game. One of the greatest endings ever, to boot.

Ree is somewhat of a companion cube, she's friendly and always there for you. Lilith on the other hand, well. She'd probably look up to GLaDOS like the psychotic, antagonizing A.I. she never had growing up. So this just had to happen eventually.

(Oh. And I know that Ree's arms disappear in the second to last image. Sue me. Haha. She had a bad run-in with one of the friendly turrets.)

Brought about by a conversation between ~Ganondorfthethird and myself. Will probably move to scraps later due to sheer, tragic silliness.

Seaside Love

Was watching the brother play Ariel's stage in KH2 when I realized how frightened I would be if I saw a woman out in the middle of the ocean. So I thought to myself, "Hey! I should ruin the beauteous image of mermaids for everyone!" And then I remembered that I already did. Hm.

Anyhow, here's my rendition of how a half-fish half-woman creature ought to appear. Pale, pasty skin, flat yellow eyes, sharp teeth, gills, and the inability to survive out of water. Hawt.

This piece was pretty fun to color. The sand is made of a radial gradient with three white gradients on top to make mounds. Similarly, the water was made from a murky-blue-transparent gradient, which reminds me: for beginner artists, remember that shallow water is clear. These waves turned out to be the funnest to draw for me, though I still need to refine the technique. Man, water is so exciting.

It's been getting cold here lately, so I wanted to draw something warm and cozy. Or just something that gives peaceful, happy vibes :>

I'm sure many of you guys have already seen a peek of this if you've been coming to my Livestreams since I did most of the color there. It's finally done after hours and hours of procrastination, distraction, and spilling ranch powder on the picture :'D

This was my first time doing an indoor setting so it's a lot of hit and misses. Especially the window, which I dreaded doing and put off until the last minute 8D;; When I finally got to it, it was basically like LALALALA IDK WTF I'M DOINGGG *slather on random colors* but it turned out alright so yey /shot. Don't underestimate coloring bricks either. I made the mistake of doing so, thinking I'd draw a few bricks and be done w/ them in an hour or two, but HAHAHA YEA RIGHT. I used like 10 shades of brown/mahogany/red/gray on each brick. Ffff never doing bricks again.

I took plenty of work in progress photos, so expect a walkthrough/tutorial of this coming up soon 8D

I can't wait for winter break ohohoho /hibernates

This is a little study I did today. I compiled 19 different manga eyes for myself and for you. I wanted to show everyone all the options that fall under manga eyes and this isn't even close to all of them. This is just the biggest selection I have together in one place. So pick tell which one is your fancy which one is the closest to the style you use, is there something here you like that you may not have tried yet. give me feed back. They are mostly female manga eyes but most of them can be used for men if you trim down the eye lashes a bit. 16a and 17a are the surprised versions of 16 and 17. 16 is probably my fav and the one I may try to stick with (but that may not be true) I think I like the manga eyes that lean more toward the realistic eyes. I actually had fun doodling her, but I'm in some sort of "identity" crisis so this ended up with a sort of "neutral" anime style.

How to Create New Characters

Hypothesis:
I really have just one original character, and my gallery is a result of failed attempts to reproduce it over the years.

But in all honesty, this is something that's been bugging me recently. I have difficulty drawing my own characters consistently! I don't know if this is the reason I keep making one shot characters or just a result of the practice.

Please bear I mind that I'm not suggesting this is *the* way (or even a preferred way) of rendering manga female body proportions. This is just a method that works for me, and delivers a somewhat stylized--but not wildly exaggerated--final result.

She is just a half goddess, she has no great power like the others, and she lives in the human world. She feels so sad to see, one by one, her friends get sick and pass away because of the death winter. So she searches the sun pieces one by one until they become one again. Her warm and kind heart makes the sun shine again and brings the earth back to life again, and it's spring... ^^.

Updated with a new file and a new print on Sept. 1, 2009. One of my personal favorite pieces.

Why wait until Halloween to revise the print and deviation when you can have it IN TIME for Halloween?

Alright, here is a picture I actually spent time (started about 2 weeks ago)!

Caroline is an artificial daughter developed by a creepy guy with a lot of time and money and no children. However, the research and construction took a long time. By the time she was completed, he had found a woman who loved him for his money and not for his looks, and she had borne him a stumpy little babyling to call his own. So! Now she is kind of like the really expensive juke box that the family likes to show off to guests.

Because the technology for making artificial people is complicated shit, Caroline's head is purely decorative. Her face is painted on, and she cannot process visual stimuli. She can, however, hear what is happening around her and emulate a voice using whatever musical instruments are at hand. Speaking of which, her arms are a viola set!

Caroline stores her memories as melodies, which she likes to play back on occasion to remember them. Sometimes she will also make up melodies about what it'd be like to be a rhinoceros and tip over carriages.

This was a real fun one. I tried using multiple shades again like I did in Mamenoko Jack, but this time with much more vibrant colors and lighting. I was hoping to capture the feel of Capcom's arcade graphics from the 90's, but I didn't actually have any references so this was mostly from "impressions." For the background, I actually referenced some Totoro art! I should do that more often - they have some beautiful trees.

Some of you may remember my "100 Ways to Draw Manga Eyes" video for YouTube and its accompanying graphic here on DeviantArt. I decided to adapt this idea as part of my new how-to-draw-manga book for Impact Books. Rather than simply make them identical, I started from scratch, adapting some of the eye designs used in the video and also introducing entirely new designs. As I said before I keep on drawing with my new copic markers just to get better at it. This time I decided to colour the beautiful lineart [link] made by awsome . It wasn't easy for me - I tried three times to colour it. Two previous attempst were a disaster because of the wrong colour scheme I chose;;;.
However, colouring with copic markers is surely a great pleasure. They're expensive like hell but shading with them is just gorgeous*_*.

Why mixed media?I t's because only the lady is made traditionally, I addded the rest in Photoshop.

Lady Bug ~ Silver Butterfly

She is a girl who was known as the most beautiful girl at that time. She was so obsessed by it and wanted to be more and more beautiful. One day, she wanted to make a most beautiful dress for herself, that would make her a most beautiful person. She secretly stole the gods cloth and threads to make the dress. When the gods found out about it, the became so angry and warned her to stop, but she ignored them.

Until one day, when the dress was already done. She became so shocked, 'cause although at that moment she was wearing the most beautiful dress there was, she now became so bad and ugly.
She didn't know that the gods had already put a curse in the cloth and threads, so that everytime she stole cloth and threads, she became more and more ugly.

She died in desperation while still wearing the dress, and became a butterfly. That's why butterflies have an ugly body, although their wings are so beautiful.

Materials: Multiliners, Copic Sketch markers.
Time: 10 hours.

I've been really busy with school, but recently found some time to doodle and color something for stress relief \o/

The characters are original, so they're not from any series o3o I love designing clothes for characters, I think it's really fun and gets my creative juices flowing.

The background is very experimental; I wanted to do something abstract (a floral silhouette outline), but turns out it's a lot harder to do by hand OTL;; Same with the polka dot pattern, which I tried to use a ruler for as guidelines. It messed me up more than helped, so I ended up eyeballing the rest of the pattern and it finally came out looking more natural \o/

I hope I'll have more time this semester to draw. Upper division classes are a killer OTL;;;

Anime Eyes-WHOA

Okay, so I was somewhat bored this weekend, and I was teaching one of my friends how to draw anime eyes...and then I suddenly started shading it... and then my friend wanted to learn how to draw other kinds of eyes...and then suddenly I started shading the second...and so this turned into a giant page of anime eyes XD! I actually really enjoy working with pencil now! The only thing about it is that it smears so much DX!

Sorry, I've been slacking on the comic a little bit because I was visiting old family and friends this weekend, but I'll have the last part of the chapter up here in the next couple of days ^^!
