Like the name suggests, I went back and tackled the expression meme I did two years ago with raging vengeance. Which soon diminished into a half-hearted figurative crawl after realizing it's a royal pain in the bum to draw the same character's face 50+ times in a row.

I changed up some nuances in the emotions/body language because the passive ambitious part of me wasn't gonna let myself off easy by tracing the same expressions twice

And in case anyone's curious, here's the very first version I did in 2009 [link] I hope justice has been served.

These are just a few facial expressions I wanted to try, except this time I wanted to draw a little more than just the face like I usually do. Also done with the style changes I've made.

EDIT: A little change to Niki's blush in her crying expression. I just wanted to try it out to see how it looked and ended up much more pleased than with the way I originally had it. Much more natural looking I think.

Some expressions that I haven't been practicing on, so I decided to practice =3 It was so fun to draw them all XD Maybe I'll upload more~ owo
I really recommend to you all to try this out. You dont have to put that much heart in it, just draw and try not to use the eraser that much, just draw, for me if I just draw and ain't trying yo make it "perfect" it really turn out better than if I would. At least thats my way, but that doesn't mean that it works for you ^,^

btw, I have some phrases that is with the 'chibi expressions':

hahaha I wasted today away doing this ): I think I tried to do this a year or so ago but I sucked at it and I knew it was going to take FOREVER so I gave up... and decided it would be a GREAT use of time to give this a try again today.

I was thinking about doing Blackbird instead because it would be a lot easier, but then I thought WOULDN'T IT BE WAY MORE FUN TO DRAW SOMEONE WHO IS INCAPABLE OF OVER HALF OF THESE EXPRESSIONS? So I did veloce instead. I didn't know what a few of the words meant and like 7 of them look the same because of how she is... but thanks to this meme she actually looks like she may have a personality even though she doesn't

Worked on this off and on for several weeks in between commissions n' whatnot.
Accepted the challenge because...well I really needed the practice. And still do by the looks of it. xD
This kinda stuff is hard, y'know? Gotta keep so much in mind.
Length of the face, where the cheek bone falls and where the tip of the nose should be in relation to that, the curve of the nose for that particular character, eye style, hair style, lip characteristics.
Thank GOD I'm not an art major. xD

I wanna do another of these someday with pure exaggerated anime expressions. I got so many hilarious ideas while doing this and had a hard time not putting them on Uni. lol Yo can see i kinda gave in a little on the Drunk one...that's cause she doesn't get drunk, so I decided to have a little more fun with it. :]
Anywhoooo.....
I guess this'll be a good refrence for fanfic purposes. Yup.

Sooo i'm kinda in art block...

So i thought I'd make up for my lack of tutorials I said I'd be doing and draw eyes! With expressions :3

basically its just how i draw eyes, but i labeled how I would draw the expression. That way if you need help on it, you could just look here and you could see how to draw it! C:

Finally, after having a huge fight with his parents, he ran away and decided to become a bounty hunter after seeing Ami drag in a bounty. Utilizing the skills he learned from fencing/sword lessons back at the mansion, he became an easily capable bounty hunter when he wasnt slacking off or complaining about the conditions in the atmosphere prey are found in.

Okay so.... this is old. Like REALLY old. Like... I did it two years ago old. But I found it while looking through my photobucket and decided, "Yannow.... I really liked that." So I'm putting it up here.... two years later. Gooooo me!

So, here we have the 25 Essential Expressions Challenge done for my character, Ellurielle Moonlyre. She's a bard in *direndria's amazing DnD campaign, The Chronicles of Iryshka. Ellurielles and Avian, a race also created by *direndria, which is a sort of bird-elf, and Ellurielle's a blue-jay, hence the little tuft of hair sticking up all jaybird-like on the back of her head!

She also has a charisma score high enough to essentially take away your free will. No joke

I did this following a fellow player, ~TheMaskedHomie did one for her character. Hers was coloured though. She's a lot more hardcore than me.... lol. But this thing DID take me forever. I enjoyed it though. The 25 expressions meme is a really great way to get associated with your character and how their facial/body expressions will work. I should really do more of these.... maybe I'll do one for Lae'estril.... HMMMM.

Several people have challenged me to this in the past, for the most obvious reasons, but yesterday I finally got around to scribbling this up. I even picked the most inexpressive character I have to do it too.

This was going to be "serious"...but then I started copy-pastaing. and chibifying. and beyonce-ing....and dear lord I didnt even know how DB would look drunk SOOOO.

A Look at Anime Expressions

A quick, messy sketch to illustrate some dynamics in drawing expressions. A lot of you have asked how I pack the emotion into my drawings, and so I figured I might as well do some 'splaining. Basically, every single part of a character is used to insinuate any one emotion. All of them must fall in line before you can really pull it off.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

-Eyebrows
An obvious part of expression. More stress needs bumpier, thicker brows, while more relaxed or happy emotions requite smooth, thin and relaxed-looking ones. Also note how raised they are from the eyes. The more upset or determined or concerned, or maybe the harder the character is laughing, the lower the brow. As for being happier or more excited, the opposite goes.

-Eyes
Another duh. But the pupil and iris included make the eye equipped with limitless variations of emotion. Adjusting where the eyes are looking is one thing. Happier or relaxed eyes are more focused and are looking in a definite direction. Though sometimes in shock, fear or anger, eyes wander slightly further apart, though not enough to make the character look as though they have a mental disability. Sizes of the pupils, shapes of the eye and how open the eye is are important considerations too.

-Mouth
When in stress, the mouth is stretched and contorted, and sometimes more rough and lined. Relaxed mouths are smaller and less open, to insinuate the mouth is nearer to a non-moving neutral position. Genuinely happy smiles should be wide and show a tiny bit of lip definition, and curl up at the ends, unless you're going for the tiny cute chibi-type mouth. And no matter what the mouth position, don't be afraid to show some teeth. =3

-Facial Lines
The more the face contorts, the more stress lines can be found around the mouth, nose, eyes and eyebrows.

-Shoulders
As shown in the picture, a happy person's shoulders can either be raised in excitement and glee or relaxed serenely and peacefully. Less than happy emotions can cause the shoulders to hunch in fear, anger or deep anguish. Also, not shown in the picture, shoulders can be thrust downward in shock or drooped in sadness.

-Hair
Yes, you heard me. Hair is as expressive as everything else. The hair pretty much follows the same rules as the shoulders. Except you can get even wilder with it...XD

-Hands
Hands aren't supposed to be part of this segment, but the hands should match what the face is doing. Pissed? Clench those digits up until you almost crush 'em. Gleeful? If you're a girl, spread your fingers as if to skip down a yellow brick road! Guys, make fists of determination and manly manliness! Feeling graceful? Have the fingers be doing soft, intricate movements. Or, there is always the neutral relaxed hands-at-your-sides position. But that's Bo-o-o-ring.

This is overall a pretty vague explanation of everything. The key is knowing how to match the intensity of an emotion with how you construct the face. Sometimes even drawing what you feel like at the moment is very good practice too.

Heyo look like Nasuada has been added to my "Many Expressions of-" series XD
This is pretty fun, I quite like drawing expressions....I imagine Nasuada saying all these things to Murtagh *fan girl squeal~~~~*...seriously.....I want to do a scrap page of just Murtagh and Nasuada scenes XD

So if you're wondering why her eyes are yellow, it's because of this verse she always recites when she's defending her mind from intruders:

In El-harim, there lived a man, a man with yellow eyes.
To me, he said, “Beware the whispers, for they whisper lies.
Do not wrestle with the demons of the dark,
Else upon your mind they’ll place a mark;
Do not listen to the shadows of the deep,
Else they haunt you even when you sleep.”

Assuming Surdans have similar hair, skin and eye colors, I chose to stick with the yellow eyes for Surdan borns XD

...I used to draw Nasuada with sandy colored, straight hair, pale skin and blue eyes....obviously I did not read very carefully and imagined her like that XD...as I reread the series I saw how incredibly obvious that she looked nothing like that so I revamped her design and I like this much better XD

...if you're an MxN shipper like me, have fun imaging her making all these faces at Murtagh...*drooooool~~~*

Yeaaahh!!! Guess what? It's Zack, my OC!!! XDD
Oh at least...i think i'll call him Zack... xP i like this name too much!!

It's cool that i finally managed to do this thing!!! I really had fun!! I could probably make another one when my style will become more "solid" and i will know better how to draw this character... (for now, my goal is to reach always the level of "Irritated"...xD i love how he came out there!!!).

Anyway...as you can see, i'm still a bit unsure sometimes when i draw him, but before doing this thing i had draw his face in is "definitive" form only two or three times >< so i have to say i'm quite satisfied!
I'd really like to know your opinion about this!! Thank you very much!!

I'm thinking of doing a series of these all with Inheritance Cycle characters! This time I drew then colored them unlike the Arya expressions study I did a day ago! I hope you like it~! I did it for the 100 Theme challenge...as an apology...perhaps I should be doing more solid pieces instead of studies for you guys. If you're an Eragon fan though I hope you don't mind!

I had fun playing around with our pretty little dragon rider~
I think the one of him I drew in the bottom right corner is kinda smexy~~~~...is it weird I think a fictional character I drew looks smexy? Maybe not XD
