First things first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETERNALBLADE!!! And for the first time this year, I don’t have to add ‘belated’ before everything else! (What a shocker! XD) It helped that I was noted three months in advance…
Anyway, how did this come about? Waaaaaay back in December last year, one of Eternalblade’s good friends, sent me a note regarding a request – not for himself though, but for his pal as a Christmas gift. Knowing my chances of getting a pic done in time for Christmas were low, I decided to postpone the gift for Eternalblade’s b-day, and the day has finally arrived… er, sorta. I’m actually two days early – his b-day is on the 22nd. But it feels nice to be early for a change instead of horrifically late as I always am. Hmm, I could get used to this… XD

(Before I go on, I’d like to point out again that requests are still CLOSED, with a few exceptions. This was one such exception; have a look at my journal for more details.)

With that out of the way, it’s time for introductions – this here is Gavin, who Himizu asked me to draw for Eternalblade, and one of the characters who features in his main prose work here on DA. This is the second time I’ve drawn one of his characters, the first being Kell who I drew as part of one of the first ever trades I’d gotten on the internet, and that was about two years ago now… time passes by so fast, eh? ^.^ Lol, you need to colour Gavin more often EB… I was only guessing that his colour scheme hadn’t changed after all the other alterations you gave him, and I had to get Himizu to find out what colour his eyes were. He was fun to draw anyway!

So er… for the rest of you… what’s going on here? The title implies that something’s up, and I guess that could be true. Okay, well, the thing is that throughout the whole drawing process, I’m always sifting through possible titles in my head, because that determines what the final look is going to be. This was no exception, so because I wanted an excuse to show Gavin’s special abilities by using shiny light effects () I homed in on the word ‘glimmer’… and because I wanted to try my hand at drawing long grass, I homed in on the word ‘field’. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise how the title came about next then… The concept of a Glimmer Field does not feature in Eternalblade’s story, but you’re always welcome to use it in the future if you wish dear. ^^ Secondly, I wanted some sort of justification for Gavin’s slightly ordinary pose, so whatever’s “come” to the Glimmer Field is about to be engaged in battle and so Gavin’s pose is defensive. Speaking of battle, in Eternalblade’s story, the spear which Gavin is holding plays an important part and he is able to “draw” from it… hey, it was a good excuse to break out the dodge tool! XD (By the way, I did not use any lens filters when making those light effects; people often think that I use them in my pics but I definitely do not rely on them, and use them only once every ten pics or so.)

And so we reach the technical stuff – let me just say OH MY GODFATHER!!! O____O If this were real life, Gavin would be having one hell of a bill on his hands from an overload of cosmetic surgery… His face underwent at least six alterations all the way through the pencilling, inking and colouring until finally, at 8 pm, I was able to officially say: “The eyes are even at last…!!!!!!!” Don’t forget the nose, cheek, mouth and chin jobs either. XD XD I had to give the eyes a serious makeover though, they were constantly lopsided and saggy, and I was after the sharp effect that Eternalblade created in his most recent frontal pic of Gavin. Lol, when I finally got them fixed though, I found myself squinting hard, wondering where I’d seen the face before me in the past… and then I was like, “Oh my Lord! He looks like Sephiroth now – without the fringe…!!” O_____O;;;; *Runs off screeching* Er, it’s not that bad though.

Ho hum, well, that’s all I can think of to talk about so I’ll leave you all now to get some sleep… enjoy the pic and have a happy birthday, and thankyou also to for getting the ball rolling in the first place! A sacrificial pawn used in the False God Project - where a group of higher up individuals in the Land of Grass seek to literally create their own Kami. Deemed a failure, Tara is to be escorted to the Land of Volcanoes where she will be 'disposed off'. Her escorts are completely unawares but begin to fit pieces of the secret puzzle together from brief moments when Tara regains her sanity, or whatever is left of it anyways.

Haraboshi Hokuto - The Insufferable Player-
A self obsessed glory whore and all around nuisance to his village yet still a capable ninja, when he wants to be at-least. If he had his way he'd be a professional footballer [hence his unavoidably bright get up] and have dozens of girlfriends and fans screaming his name. This love for the sport and fame carries on into his special jutsu which earned him the questionable name 'Glitter Boots' [he doesn't seem to care, it only adds to his infamy] Hokuto has the ability to cause such intense friction it seems like there are red 'sparks' around his feet which he uses in conjunction with taijutsu. So absorbed in his own little world he fails to acknowledge his teammate Masai or his mission in general, but he has taken to the notion of trying to turn Tara into his fangirl.
Name Meaning: Field Star, Big Dipper

Recently released from Hozukijo [also known to many as the Blood Prison] for crimes he didn't commit yet still considered a possible criminal, Masai is hell bent on revenge. For that he has had special handcuffs sealed onto him, limiting his abilities. However he has learned to use anything to his advantage. The Village believes he could prove useful in a certain escort mission but what they don't realize is that Masai knew Tara before she became as she is now and he suspects that this mission is more than it seems. However his teammate for this assignment is unbearable and Masai is finding it hard to keep his own sanity on this case.

I think I might be late, since the contest was already closed. But the deadline was June 24 and I completely forgot about the time zone difference, so I just went according to my North American time, by which it's on time.
I really hope you'll still accept it because I did put a lot of work into it. If you look through my gallery, you can see that I've literally never drawn so many details and folds in my life. I only found out about the contest two days ago and yesterday my family suddenly decided to spend the day out so I had no time to draw.

Anyway, I wish you happy birthday nonetheless!

Onto the drawing itself:

I can finally relate to people who condemn their scanners for killing the colors. Ok my scanner in the past wasn't very good either, but I thought that if I colored dark enough, it wouldn't be affected too much. Well I certainly pressed hard enough this time, but all the colors got kind of muddy after scanning not to mention much lighter. Next, forgive my tactless abuse of photoshop brushes >.<! I wanted to just paste a photo in the background but then making the background transparent would take too much time XP Besides, this hides some of the hideous folds of the dress. I forgot to add more butterflies T.T

Dress design loosely based on that of Princess Garnet from Final Fantasy IX and Giselle from Enchanted. ]]> 's contest: this is her character Izka-chan dressed as a princess.

I think I might be late, since the contest was already closed. But the deadline was June 24 and I completely forgot about the time zone difference, so I just went according to my North American time, by which it's on time.
I really hope you'll still accept it because I did put a lot of work into it. If you look through my gallery, you can see that I've literally never drawn so many details and folds in my life. I only found out about the contest two days ago and yesterday my family suddenly decided to spend the day out so I had no time to draw.

Anyway, I wish you happy birthday nonetheless!

Onto the drawing itself:

I can finally relate to people who condemn their scanners for killing the colors. Ok my scanner in the past wasn't very good either, but I thought that if I colored dark enough, it wouldn't be affected too much. Well I certainly pressed hard enough this time, but all the colors got kind of muddy after scanning not to mention much lighter. Here's a version I took with my camera: [link] Shows the colors better?

Next, forgive my tactless abuse of photoshop brushes >.<! I wanted to just paste a photo in the background but then making the background transparent would take too much time XP Besides, this hides some of the hideous folds of the dress. I forgot to add more butterflies T.T

X.x I don't think I'll be doing that again.

Does anyone have tips on how to scan pencil art better? I've seen some really well-scanned traditional art, but mine always seem to scan badly.

This image starts a new six MiSha pin-up pics long series, with a theme that's closer to nature than the previous series. You will see MiSha posing with at least a wooden fence and a tree. She will also lose one piece of clothing every two pics, so look forward to some exposed skin.

Even though I asked suggestions for the colour of her shorts/pants, I decided to go with a colour similar to the original plan, just a little more blue. I dunno, I think blue clothing matches her hair so cutely and nicely. ^_^

As for the picture itself, I had to go experimental on a lot of things, starting from the water. I realized I've only done static water before. @.o I hope it looks good enough. I gotta think of some new grass patterns too for less repetition.

Next pin-up pic coming hopefully this weekend.

I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to make this.
Tools used: Mouse!

1. I drew Nawdile lightly with a pencil and then traced it with a Sharpie no-bleed pen. Scanned and fixed the lineart.

2. In Photoshop, I made the layer of my drawing set to Linear Burn and set the opacity to 65%. I then made a new layer underneath it, which is my color layer. So I colored it, added shading, and adjusted the brightness.

3. Using the Pen Tool, I made the shape of the ground Nawdile will be sitting on. Colored and shaded. I also used the Smudge Tool to blend the grass and sand. The grass blades was stroked with Pen Tool.

4. On the background layer, I used gradients to create the sky.

5. Added plants. First I made a new layer and used the Pencil brush to draw the leaves, by mouse. It was difficult but I had lots of practice. I then filled it in with colors, selected some parts of the leaves, and adjusted the hue. Then I deleted the lineart using Select>Color Range. Repeat for other plants.

6. Now for the tree leaves. This what pretty quick. Using the Pen Tool I made the shape of one leaf and colored it. Copy and paste and transformed to make more leaves. Also added falling leaves.

7. Made a new layer which will be the field and mountain. Pen Tool used for the mountains. Clouds made by brush and later smudged. Blended colors for the field. Also made the tree using Pen Tool.

8. Time for lighting. I made a new layer, set to Overlay, and using the Ellipse Tool to make the light effect. Filled it in with a bright yellow. Then I warp transformed it. Duplicate layer, move it just a little to the right and set the Opacity to around 50%.

9. Added the sun, many trees, and houses. Also added some more plants outside the forest.

10. Added more clouds and additional touches on the field.

11. New layer and move it up all the other layers. This layer was used for the shadowing in the forest. I used a dark blue color and using the Gradient Tool. Adjusted the Opacity to around 40-50%.

12. Added a grungey texture. New layer and move it up on top of the shadowing layer. Using Pen Tool to create larger leaves and I Box Blurred it.

13. And...finished! On the final product, I played around with Color Balance. ]]> Beyond The Forest.

For the Picture Challenge. From left to right: Matt, Mello, and Near (as children).

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE bullies. According to my sister (haha) I've always been a bit of a bully and whenever someone asks me to roleplay I always want to be the meaner character. Mello is so awesome, I can imagine so many different scenes with him bullying Near... but this is the one I decided on for this theme. Mello stole Near's toy and is throwing it to Matt (who has a pink shirt ahaha). Hum. I kinda want to do a follow-up after this.

ARGHH. But my perspective... angling... whatever, it all looks so... so... wrong. I rarely use reference (well, I want to but I seem to have a hard time finding any) so I just kinda had to wing it. I'm not sure if Mello and Near should have been drawn smaller (further away) or if the frog or something is just misplaced or what. If anyone can help me in that area I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to get better so I'm purposely drawing more difficult things like this. xD; And I know I'm still not using enough color. It's really hard for me to do for some reason, but I shall keep trying/practicing.

i love how it turned out, though i had a muck up, some weird glitch happened with GIMP, otherwise i would have been able to have one of tomoyo as well.. but i was only able to do kaori. but the rest turned out well.
'xept the shade effects sucked....
... and i just remembered i forgot the shadows on the ground... meh.
when i was doing the background the picture made me thing of a happy field for naga to slither around and play and eat without fear of intruders, its a nice theme ^ ^
so thats where she is, haha

She's in both a manga and visual novel for PC I'll be working on (~SteveKB will be coding it). I hope she and her story can be an interesting one. UvU

My grandmother is sick, so I’ll visit her house deep inside the forest to bring her some bread, fruits and milk.

Alone I walk through the woods. There I met a cute wolf, and it’s so adorable, I want to hug it! But then I remembered my mother’s words, that wolves are scary and dangerous, thus I must not trust them. It seems she’s a bit too worrying, for the wolf in front of me doesn’t look scary at all.

I was so entertained by the energetic wolf that I played with it for hours. We run among the flower fields, like how the shepherd covers the wilderness. We chased butterflies, like how peasants seek for fortune. We also took a refreshing dip on a nearby river, like how farmers rejoice for the end of a long drought. Time passed by so fast, I and the young wolf were having so much fun we forgot how exhausted we are.

Tired, I lied down on a grass field, while the young wolf slept beside me. It is so cute while it was sleeping, that I couldn't imagine it being harmful. With the sweet chirping of the colorful birds that sounds like a lullaby serenading my wary body, my eyes slowly closes until I eventually fell asleep. Everything was like a dream, when I remembered my sick grandmother, the reason of my errand. I woke up in a daze. I looked for my basket in a hurry, but it was already empty. I noticed that the wolf has gone missing, could it be?! The sun is about to set, it's about to get dark soon, and the forest will once again be more fearsome than it ever was. I picked up my basket and run back home empty handed.

I arrived at our house with dirty clothes and an empty basket. I told my Parents that I didn't manage to get to Grandmother's place, for I played with a young wolf and fell asleep. I woke up with an empty basket. Only then that I realize what my mother was telling me all along, a mistake I paid with a broken heart. Wolves are really sly, and I fell for its cute front, and that makes them dangerous. next time, I'll remember my mother's words dearly.

Tomorrow's visit will be a different one. ]]> Visiting Red Hood

Okay, while some people are probably gonna say 'Dea, you are stupid, deadline is on the 14th, not the 11th!!' I got to tell you that my computer is broken, lagging like hell, crashing every half an hour, at first didn't want to even RECOGNIZE I had a tablet plugged in etcetcetc... I was really panicing I wouldn't get my computer running in time again OTL (well it still isnt running but it recognizes the tablet now... I can compensate the lag and constant crashes with iron endurance and patience! =v=b lol Jupp over a week no digital art does that to me...)

Usually I try finishing Gifts etc 2 weeks in advance in case something like this happened, the worst part is, I was almost done with this pic when my comp crashed =A=; File got corrupted and I was glad I had a save copy of when at least the LINEART was done... had to redo basecolors and background anyway OTL *died about 5000x on this pic*

BUT Im super mega happy with the clouds QvQ Think those are my best clouds yet~~~ So maybe that was worth all the fuzz and the crash xD;;; lol Plus I like the charas faces =v=

Okay, while some people are probably gonna say 'Dea, you are stupid, deadline is on the 14th, not the 11th!!' I got to tell you that my computer is broken, lagging like hell, crashing every half an hour, at first didn't want to even RECOGNIZE I had a tablet plugged in etcetcetc... Finally a sign that I am alive. I have so much work lately since I try to get to uni and everything. But anyway harsh times seem to be over soon. I needed to draw something nice so my lovely drew some pretty pretty outlines which I could colour.

I had a lot of trouble with the grass, you can probably tell that I filtered and blurred the crap out of it. Oddly enough, I went outside and looked at the dandelions as reference and noticed that the grass gets yellowish where the sun touches it. So thus, I came up with the idea of the sun patches, and that seemed to make it all better.

Amusingly enough, I couldn't decide whether to make Italy's dress red or green, I went with green in the end.

About wall

this time its also from the ending cause i loved how Tear looked there.
i decided to catch 2 screens of her, and to connect them.

i had a little trouble making whole background but it turned out really nice
i used flowers from ending too, and decided that since she is on grass feild i wanted to prolonge that field
also if you are wonderng why arent there pink dotes on the field behind her, lets just say that the flowers bloomed in the are she is in now.oh and flowers killed, especially clovers
if you get what i mean
anyway this time clouds are different cause i wanted them to look like that
and now they are smoother
no brushes used

vector was done in 6 hours. i decided to make not equivalent lines, cause i saw one of erderbemich works. you can say i was inspired by erd-chan.
also i experimented with colors and i think i like the smoothness now and i think it fits the whole background as well
