The first known owners of the Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence are Düzoğlulları family. As already known, the waterfront residence of Düzoğulları was demolished completely and was reconstructed by Aristarhis Family in the year of 1863.

Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence had become the property of Prince Abdülhalim Pasha in the year of 1876. But in that period, it was reconstructed to its current appearance by journeyman architect, Petraki Adamandidis of Dardanelles since it was not big enough and it was in ruins. The property inherited to nine children of the Pasha after Abdülhalim Pasha was deceased in the year of 1890.

Sait Halim Pasha purchased the shares of his sisters and brothers and owned the whole residence in the year of 1894.
The building was transferred to the Bank of Tourism in the year of 1968 and was used as a casino only for foreign people. The casino was transferred to Hilton because of danger of fire and similar reasons in the year of 1972.

Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence which was modified in the year of 1974 had its real big renovation by TAÇ (Turkey Monument and Environment Protection) Foundation by the Bank of Tourism between the years of 1980-1984.

The owner of Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence became Development Bank of Turkey when T.R. Bank of Tourism was turned into Development Bank of Turkey in 1989. The garden of Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence was operated as a restaurant in summers and some of its rooms were regulated as a museum. Apart from this, it was also used as summerhouse of Prime Ministry and official meetings were held in here.

Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence was restored after the fire of 1995 under the name of “Prime Ministry Official Guest House”. This restoration was completed in the year of 2002. Sait Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence was restored into the form of 1860s instead to the form before the fire; I was not used until it was transferred to the operation of Göçtur Turizm A.Ş.

It has been operated by Yeniköy Turizm Yatırımları ve Tic. A.Ş. since the year of 2007.

They are discussing matters of great importance and I can only pick up bits and pieces of the details. The echoes of our footsteps reverberate tremendously through this great hall and make eavesdropping all the more difficult. The Fuehrer and Goebbels are immune to the distraction, they're focus is that of the conversation, not the ambiance which has me awestruck.

Moving along we pass these enormous doorways, each one manned by two SS guards in their immaculate uniforms. Their red armbands radiate a bright crimson and their gloves are whiter than the sheen of light reflected from their highly polished helmets and boots. The SS guards are tall, clean, and rigid staring straight ahead, motionless. I can't take my eyes off of them, my palms become moist and my heart rate increases. The mobile meeting between the Fuehrer and Goebbels has become even more difficult to ascertain, their voices have become mumbling to my ears brought about by my fixation on the guards.

I'm overwhelmed, I desperately want to hear what is being said even though it doesn't concern me but I can't. This incredible hallway, the sounds, the clean smell and the cool temperature have completely enveloped me causing an overload to all of my senses. I can't even control my movements, I find myself keeping pace and proper distance from the powerful duo in front of me.

My sight seemed to be all that I did have authority over but not any longer, its been surrendered to the SS guards and we're getting closer to them. Our distance closes to about 7 feet when the guards abruptly bring their heels together and extend their right arms out in front of them! The sound of their boots clicking together sent a shock wave right through me and it continued down the hall, bouncing off of everything as there was nothing to absorb it. The hallway itself makes one feel small but not insignificant, the guards evoke a similar sensation, they grew 2 inches taller when saluting.

My eyes shifted back onto the Fuehrer and Goebbels still engaged in discussion, they continued past the guards without any noticeable acknowledgement. It wasn't a snub, the respect was palpable. The guards returned to their previous posture, at attention with eyes fixed straight ahead. They were intimidating but I didn't fear them, in fact they made me feel safe and for some reason I was proud of them.

I became aware that I had regained control of my actions and movement. I turned around to continue my pursuit of the two powers who were now gone! It was like they just vanished within seconds. The Wolf and the Doctor had given me the slip! I heard the echoing "thud" of a door closing at the far end of the great hall but all I could see were shadows. All that was visible in the darkness ahead were little red ribbons with small white blotches, the armbands of the sentries.

I began to think about conducting a search for the Fuehrer by opening doors until I found him, but I quickly scrapped that idea as I remembered the guards whom I was enthralled with moments ago. It was a wise decision as they aren't there just to salute. And if they were to find me opening doors at random, I'm certain they wouldn't hesitate for a second to remind me of that. They won't care how proud I am of them or how much I admire them, they've got a job to do. Besides, getting thrown out of this wonderful place isn't my intention, I'm not even sure how I got here but I know I don't want to leave.

I took a seat in a nearby chair. I remained sitting upright with my hands folded in my lap. I waited...


The above story is a recurring dream that I have from time to time. The hallway in the photo isn't exactly like the one in my dream but portions of it are. These hallways are culminated all together in my dreams and they look different every time. The only constants are the Fuehrer, the SS guards and all the senses. Sometimes the Fuehrer is talking with Himmler and sometimes with Heydrich. Last night it was Goebbels. Sometimes I can hear what is being said and sometimes I can't. Sometimes my presence is acknowledged by them, sometimes its not. I've had other dreams about the Reich and its people that occur in different locations but the one I had last night, described here, is most common. ]]>

"For a panoramic view of the city of Copenhagen, climb the spiral ramp (no steps) leading up to the top of this tower, which was built in 1642. "For a panoramic view of the city of Copenhagen, climb the spiral ramp (no steps) leading up to the top of this tower, which was built in 1642. The spiral walk to the top is unique in European architecture, measuring 268m (880 ft.) and winding itself seven times around the hollow core of the tower, forming the only link between the individual parts of the building complex. Obviously not wanting to walk, Peter the Great, in Denmark on a state visit, galloped up the ramp on horseback, preceded by his carriage-drawn czarina. Rundetårn is also the oldest functioning observatory in Europe, in use until 1861 by the University of Copenhagen. Now anyone can observe the night sky through the astronomical telescope."
