The American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) is a large aquatic bird from the order Pelecaniformes. It breeds in interior North America, moving south and to the coasts, as far as Central America and South America, in winter.

The American White Pelican rivals the Trumpeter Swan as the longest bird native to North America. Both very large and plump, it has an overall length is about 50–70 in (130–180 cm), courtesy of the huge beak which measures 11.3–15.2 in (290–390 mm) in males and 10.3–14.2 in (260–360 mm) in females. It has a wingspan of about 95–120 in (240–300 cm). The species also has the second largest average wingspan of any North American bird, after the California Condor. Body weight can range between 9.2 and 30 lb (4.2 and 14 kg), although typically these birds average between 11 and 20 lb (5.0 and 9.1 kg). Among standard measurements, the wing chord measures 20–26.7 in (51–68 cm) and the tarsus measures 3.9–5.4 in (9.9–14 cm) long. The plumage is almost entirely bright white, except the black primary and secondary remiges, which are hardly visible except in flight. From early spring until after breeding has finished in mid-late summer, the breast feathers have a yellowish hue. After moulting into the eclipse plumage, the upper head often has a grey hue, as blackish feathers grow between the small wispy white crest.

The bill is huge and flat on the top, with a large throat sac below, and, in the breeding season, is vivid orange in color as is the iris, the bare skin around the eye, and the feet. In the breeding season, there is a laterally flattened "horn" on the upper bill, located about one-third the bill's length behind the tip. This is the only one of the eight species of pelican to have a bill "horn". The horn is shed after the birds have mated and laid their eggs. Outside of the breeding season the bare parts become duller in color, with the naked facial skin yellow and the bill, pouch, and feet an orangy-flesh color.

Apart from the difference in size, males and females look exactly alike. Immature birds have light grey plumage with darker brownish nape and remiges. Their bare parts are dull grey. Chicks are naked at first, then grow white down feathers all over, before moulting to the immature plumage.(via Wikipedia)

My mom found this little guy in the corner of our front porch and thought that it may be hurt. Since she was about to leave the house, she told me to put the bird in a box and take it inside. When she left I put on some gloves, got a box, and tried to carefully get the little guy in the box. However, I quickly realized that the bird was not at all injured and was trying to get out of the wind, since it was extremely windy today. So as I was standing up, the bird noticed that the front door was open and it ran inside the house. The poor little guy was just cold and scared. So I got it inside the box, thankfully it made no attempt to fly, and I took it to my back yard where the house was blocking out most of the wind. I let the bird out of the box and the bird found shelter under some fallen bicycles.

Remember the 5 baby finches I saved from the storm last month?
Only 1 survived. 2 died from yeast infection, 1 from wrong dose medicine, 1 from getting choked with apple cider mixed water.
And so I think I'll keep this one for me... If there were 5 of them survived till now, I would consider releasing them back to the wild but this one is already bonded with me... and I can't stand another thought of dead finch in my head, even though I know birds die every now and then out there...

Anyway...
Pixie (I usually just call her "PHI" or Phi-phi) is the youngest of the clutch, but she's the most cooperative with me and the medication. She is now weaned & able to take a bath. She eats what my lovebirds eat and very much acting like a parrot. The only thing she can't do is climbing with her beak. The rest is the same: love getting her cheek scratch (here's a video of her: [link] ), love snuggling, preening my hair, and biting my finger to get attention. There is only 1 downside of her personality. She's lazy to preen her feathers, especially the tail feathers which are now broken or messed half way...

A robin with a buffet neatly arranged in her/his mouth for the young. I got to see them being fed, but didn't get a photo of that. After attempting to sneak a peek the second time the robin decided I was a huge threat and wouldn't go near the babies until I left, so, I left them alone!

I forgot to submit this ! Then my mind remembered when =CommanderEVE mentioned shutter speed, and I thought ... My faster camera !!!
I used my slower camera for my less-sharp photos ... It ruined them ... So I will use the faster one from now on, but it depends on what I can carry around !

So my mom wanted chickens like really bad so we ended up getting 8 chickens! 5 of them a gray and black, 1 is brown white and black, 1 is yellow and black and lil Gilbird is yellow! So i gave him/her the name Gilbird because Prussia from hetalia has a yellow bird named Gilbird xD so i said why not haha
Gilbird is by far the friendliest lil bird in the bunch and is such a cutie <3 he/she loves human interaction too so thats good~
