My cute little baby rattie boy yawning

Arkanys, black irish dumbo rex rat, born April the 16th 2010.

He is the sweetest baby rat, the most cuddly, licky, playful and loving boy I've ever had (he can sleep on my boyfriend and I for hours then licks our hands when he wakes up, always asks for cuddles and adores to play with us).
I have always wanted to adopt black or agouti rats but I had never had the opportunity to adopt one as I do not chose my rescue ratties colors/coat/ear shape at all, I just take them home the way they are. Since Ægir is always asking for rattie friends to play, I thought it would be great to adopt young rats for once (my old ones are not playful enough).

Arkanys comes from an unwanted litter from a rescue doe, Harley, who had been abandonned by her previous owner. The foster family who rescued her didn't seem to know males and female rats shouldn't play on the same area together and the girl who adopted Harley soon discovered that she was pregnant...
I saw a video showing Harley's pups and my boyfriend and I just melt when we saw Arkanys cute little nose and white socks... So we adopted him and I must say this rattie is the cutest thingie ever and I can't believe such a small rat has so much love to give

Odin is an amazingly special cat. Named for the one-eyed God, Odin has a journey of a story which I feel compelled to share with those of you who are interested to listen.

Odin had a hard life at the beginning, born to an abusive, neglectful family, he was an outside cat who got more than his share of beatings from both animals and people nearby. Scars are apparent on his ears, and especially his nose, of past battles. However, Odin wasn't brought into the shelter until his eye was shot out with a pellet gun, possibly by his previous owner or a neighborhood kid.

The shelter removed the pellet, but unfortunately his eye was lost. Our shelter isn't innocent in some of the pain caused to him, however. The shelter obviously placed no trust in the fact that he would make it, because his eye wasn't properly sewn, and they left in his right tooth, which was fractured from the impact, to abscess.

I saw images of Odin (called "Winky" by the shelter) on their website in March of 2008, and something about him pulled me. I begged my husband, who at the time didn't want another cat, to at least let me go and take a look at him. He was about a year old at the time and still had the stitches in his eye when he was brought out to us. The woman handed him to my husband and he laid his head against my husband's chest.

Call it love at first sight, the next day we were taking him home. He was clearly hanging on. A strong cat, he pulled through another surgery to remove the abscessed tooth and we discovered through the vet that his blood work returned with his blood sugar through the roof, meaning that not only was he suffering from his ordeal, he was diabetic.

My husband worried for ages that he wouldn't make it, but I kept hoping, kept praying. I applied medicine to his eye to help it heal and kept a close watch on the spot where his tooth was.

Now nearly a year later, he's gained to a healthy weight, his eye has healed marvelously, and his blood sugar is still maintained through insulin shots. He's well behaved, never once fighting me while giving him shots. He sleeps on my legs at night, and purrs nearly every time I touch him. I believe that love, more than anything, kept us going, and has allowed him to be this part of my life.

Even after everything he's been through, he's still beautiful in my eyes. Some may cringe, but I look at him and see an angel.

Edit 11.19.2011 - Good News! After a trip to the vet today to check his glucose, they've told me that they suspect Odin is in remission from his diabetes! All your sweet thoughts and comments have been amazing, and I greatly appreciate everything. I will update again once they have completed the tests and he is officially deemed in remission!

Well, it's that time of the.. week? Another photo. This time it's a young kitten named Simon. He's a red Persian kitten. Although I'm not a big fan of Persians myself (too much fur!), these kittens were a big surprise! I had always thought Persians were docile and calm cats. I was hoping I could just pose the kitten any way I liked, and it would stay put. No such luck. They're as active as any other kitten, not sitting still for very long at a time. And running around the floor like crazy. It was a fun visit.
Simon grew up at the av Flamingo Persian and Exotic cattery.

BOO! Didn't see that coming, did you ?

This is my little fellow, Alma. She was found with her mom and siblings dumped in a ditch. Luckily the local animal shelter found them and here she is now, as happy as she can be! She's got funny paws because they're very furry. Sometimes that is a problem for her because the fur makes her paws very slippery when running.

This is one of my own favorite photos of all time. I think Paws captures the intricate nature of what I consider to be the personality of the most mischievous and bad-behaving kitten I've ever had the pleasure to have as my life companion.

The photo was shot standing under her against a book shelf. Meaning, the background is the ceiling. Me and my spouse got so excited about this photo that we plan to print it on canvas : ) (UPDATE: we did it, and it looks really cool; winkety-wink .. !)

Workflow: B/W conversion, sepia, contrast, vignette

BTW: The picture isn't out of focus; focusing on the paws was a conscious decision. Consider it a portrait of her paws.

this is an amazing coincidence that was captured by a dear friend of mine, !caserupper and i know that her account is deactivated, but her dad is the one who took this.

Another one from the visit to the (N)Jungle Heart's bengal cattery. Kittens are incredible when it comes to landing on their feet they were to fall. Their instinct is to always be feet down, and this kitten is no exception. After a split second she was able to turn around and get the world right side up again.

Lorich comes from an unwanted litter. His mother was pregnant in a pet store and was about to give birth to her babies, she would soon have become snake food. Fortunately, a girl who was there to buy some bedding found her and took her home

Yes, most of the rats shown in my gallery are mine but some of them were rescue ratties I fostered last year until I could find them good homes.

Actual status: went over the rainbow bridge because of a deathly cat flu caused by feline calicivirus The organisation did their best but he died in the age of four weeks

Some bad facts about them:
They were found together with 18! other cats in a dirty and messy flat. The cats had to sleep in their own junk, had nearly no contact to humans and had not enough to eat. Cookie and its siblings sat together with their skinny Mommy on the dirty floor Luckily someone informed the police and all cats came into the cat house (the first ones found a new home yet ). Here all get pampered and we make sure that their first impressions of live will be full of joy and love And they can grow up under loving conditions and care!

*Sad update* As you can see in his status: It was not granted to him to grow up. He died of cat flu in the age of 4 weeks. We assume that the whole rescued family is the product of incest which weakened their immune system

Yet another photo of (N)Jungle Heart's Silver Angel. In this photo, I'm holding her in my hand, and I think she's was growling at me. Maybe she thought I was going to take her toy away. Silver Angel moved from the breeder some time ago and she's got a nice family to play with.
