2013 Eta Aquarids meteor shower. The radiant for this meteor shower was rising in the north east in the early hours but after observing all the sections of sky the longer and brighter meteors seemed to be predominately in the opposite direction, but if you traced their paths back through the sky most were coming from the radiant point. The meteors that I observed near the radiant were all very short lived and faint.
I had my camera shooting continuous frames. This picture is compiled from one base frame for the landscape, sky and the meteor to the left of the tree. I then went through the other frames with this composition and selected the ones with meteors and masked them on top of the base image. Thin, high level cloud has bloated some of the stars and made them appear much larger and brighter than normal (particularly the star on the left).

Did anyone else go meteor hunting?

WOW!! What a perfect night for stars!!!

This was taken this morning around 3:30am in Banff, AB! I was delighted with a small meteor show. One happened to sneak into this pano! As well as some faint Aurora glow to the north!

The remains of the solar wind that struck our magnetic field between the 25th/26th still gave me some awesome Northern Lights show yesterday evening !

I had no plans about going out, but suddenly there was a lead prediction for a active show in 50 minutes (KP5) ! The weather was forcasted to be cloudy and snowing, but none of that weather had yet happend ! I had a clear sky filled with stars and bright light from the fullmoon !
So i checked my gear, got dressed up and went out again ! Just stepped out of the door i could see a weak long line of lights from east to west
I started driving the usual road, and thought that i wanted to go to the northern side of town, the local palces Mjelle and Festvag.
When i got to Løpsmarka where you can see the Landegode Island it was surronded with weak lines, so i parked at the parking spot there where i have shot a lot of pictures before and did some again !
But I told myself about the lead prediction and i wanted to get some better pictures of the landscape at Mjelle ! so I kept on driving !
Second stop was at Mjelle, did some few pictures there from a top. It was new powder snow everywhere, that reached me up above my knees ! The only bad thing was that i couldn`t see the hard ice below the snow, so I fell over a couple of times there !
But no problems with my camera gear !
Having bin around Mjelle for allmost a half hour the lights had not kicked in yet So i started checking predictions, and it was still ment to be active lights. So i drove to the original planned destination. When I arrived at my third parking spot I walked up on a top beside the road. From there i had a clear view to Valviktinden and Steigtind peak, surronded with a great landscape covered in snow !
The Lights where still just weak lines arround me, 3 or 4 lines. I shot some pictures with different settings to find a good exposure for the snow and if the lights where going to be extreme !

After 15 minutes of waiting there, suddenly to the west of the peak Steigtind a line filled with 5,6 rays with good distance between each of them started to lit up and move quite fast ! I pointed the camera at them and started firing away some pictures !
In no time and from nowhere as usual with this awesome phenomen it lit up the whole place with strong, intense, vibrant and fast moving Northern Lights ! I got pictures of the Valviktinden peak as i wanted, even got some new of Steigtind peak ! This was the prediction it was only 15,20 minutes later then predicted. I was at the right place to the right time with my patient for capturing a new set of good pictures, which i got !
I had my 3 hours of photographing the lights this evening again, the weather was all clear, the fullmoon gave bright light and life to the winterlandscape where the snow reflected some light !
I saw the clouds waiting at the coast. When the auroras got weak again, into this massive "aftershow" the clouds started moving in, so i got my open window of clear weather and a great show, the second time in a week !

Thong Pha Poom, Kanchanaburi, Thailand is a peculiar place where everything seems to be related to elephants. Two notable places are Mountain of White Elephant and Hill of War Elephant. Plus, the milky way in Thai means "Path of White Elephant." Put three things together, and you have three elephants!

Here, I depict two of them - Hill of War Elephant in a stormy night, and Milky Way!

The picture is a panorama of 4 pictures. I hope it's not too long vertically

Finally, my favorite shot from our chase near Great Bend, Kansas. As the sun set, we had a perfect view of this supercell! Sun setting to the west, updraft to the northeast, and a trailing striated shelf cloud in between Definitely the strangest storm structure I've shot. Can't wait to see more this season!

Title speaks for itself. Incredible sunset on Monday, May 13th in Omaha, Nebraska Some good news related to this image... the subject? A canon 40D, coupled with an intervalometer fresh from Amazon! Fixed the old 40D and got the intervalometer just in time to timelapse this sunset!

Another rather incredible sunset from this week, this one from Tuesday night. The scene really came together in Boys Town, NE, as a family of geese strutted into my frame. Geese, the Boys Town water tower, and a fiery sunset above the lake... can't ask for much more than that! Also took a timelapse of this scene, which will be forthcoming in a future timelapse film

_{Just Minutes after a storm came through. It's ironic how when you're not looking for weather to photograph, it always seems to present itself in the most beautiful and majestic ways. This is probably one of my favorite shots of this year during the storm season. Those to me are always the best shots, the one's you're not expecting!

Frame is a soft monochromatic, with a soft dropped shadow. This picture was not enhanced or edited in any way, other then framework and minor correction to correct camera distortion. Everything else was Mother Nature's doing! Hope you all enjoy!}

For those that don't know "Empyrean" means "Sky". I have changed the category from 'waterscape' to now 'weather and sky'. Sorry for the error.

Bright evening sunlight shines behind a storm as its updraft elongates over central Kansas. This was shot just west of Great Bend, KS on April 7th. A good start to the year! Unfortunately, since then, there hasn't been much else to shoot Not a terrible thing though, as I've basically just been saving my money for later in the season. Should be good to go once June/July roll around for some high plains chasing in South Dakota Until then, enjoy these images, and keep up to date on my facebook page!

April showers bring May... snow?? Last night we received 3 inches of snow in Omaha, Nebraska, setting a record for the highest amount of snowfall ever received in May. Pretty surreal, considering I was shooting lightning and storms about 24 hours before Looks like we should be done with winter for good now. Bring on the heat and storms!

_{Ok, so what do you get when you cross incoming storms and a camera? An extremely happy Michael! This was taken just a few hours ago! We finally had our first strong thunderstorm and I couldn't be happier. This cell was documented as a meso by the NWS, with echo tops at about 21,000ft. Moving NNW at about 21 mph, so I was literally there to see it form into this beautiful thunderstorm. Seeing this develop way out over Long Island and slowly watch this cell turn into a monster of a storm was absolutely amazing. It's very rare that I ever get to see, let alone capture the birth of a thunderstorm; so I am just beyond elated! Extremely soaked, but just in awe!

Frame is complimentary color scheme, with a sepia tone (since the predominate color is blue). Gradient inlay and a soft dropped shadow. Taken in Panoramic format. There is minor editing done on the picture to correct color and minor camera distortion, but other then that, nature provided the rest. Hope you ENJOY!}

_{I realize that this could very well be submitted into a 'waterscape' category. However, since the storm is what I was photographing, I have decided that this belongs in 'weather' more then 'waterscapes'.}
