WHENEVER I walk to Suffern along the Erie track

I go by a poor old farmhouse with its shingles broken and black.

I suppose I've passed it a hundred times, but I always stop for a minute

And look at the house, the tragic house, the house with nobody in it.



I never have seen a haunted house, but I hear there are such things;

That they hold the talk of spirits, their mirth and sorrowings.

I know this house isn't haunted, and I wish it were, I do;

For it wouldn't be so lonely if it had a ghost or two.



This house on the road to Suffern needs a dozen panes of glass,

And somebody ought to weed the walk and take a scythe to the grass.

It needs new paint and shingles, and the vines should be trimmed and tied;

But what it needs the most of all is some people living inside.



If I had a lot of money and all my debts were paid

I'd put a gang of men to work with brush and saw and spade.

I'd buy that place and fix it up the way it used to be

And I'd find some people who wanted a home and give it to them free.



Now, a new house standing empty, with staring window and door,

Looks idle, perhaps, and foolish, like a hat on its block in the store.

But there's nothing mournful about it; it cannot be sad and lone

For the lack of something within it that it has never known.



But a house that has done what a house should do, a house that has sheltered life,

That has put its loving wooden arms around a man and his wife,

A house that has echoed a baby's laugh and held up his stumbling feet,

Is the saddest sight, when it's left alone, that ever your eyes could meet.



So whenever I go to Suffern along the Erie track

The Four Corners region of the United States is well known for its wealth of cultural treasures. Ancient people had made use of this area for thousands of years before the common era. The Anasazi, or Ancestral Puebloans are the best known of these inhabitants largely due to their impressive architectural skills, which can be seen in areas all around the Four Corners region. Probably the most famous example are the spectacular cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park. A remote canyon area of Southeast Utah, far removed from the more famous National Parks like Arches, Canyonlands and Mesa Verde, is littered with these cultural treasures. If you keep a keen eye while hiking along these canyon bottoms you will see many signs of Anasazi life. Cliff dwellings, graneries, pottery and rock art adorn the canon walls. The most intriquing to me, by far, is the ruin often reffered to as "House on Fire" or "Firehouse Ruins." Everyday, a unique set of circumstances transforms these ruins into an optical illusion that is hard to beieve with your own eyes. An interesting pattern in the sandstone roof above the ruin is responsible for creating the illusion of fire. However, in late morning, when the sunlight is being reflected into the ruins from the surrounding canyon walls, House on Fire takes on a whole new life. The fiery orange rocks come to life, creating an uncanny resemblance to a raging inferno pouring from the roofs of this spectacular ruin.

Our visits to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland have been met largely with inclement weather and even a blizzard once! This scene was shot from the wharf at Arnastapi on a gloomy but still day. If features in www.inspiredbyiceland.com 's video at about the 2:00 minute mark. There are many images of this white house from the area but most focus on the rock formations along the shore. I tried to come up with an image that was different to the norm and so, I walked out on to the rocks of the breakwater /harbour to see what was possible. This was the result. ]]> Iceland

A friend of mine told me there was this abandoned house up there and that it was just off the Hwy. His memory was faulty. I had to climb over 2 barbed wire fences with a sprained wrist and carrying my camera bag...and the snow was fairly deep...too deep to be wearing dress shoes! But it was worth it! ]]>

In the middle of the Inner Mongolian grasslands there stood this hut-like building made of stones. An old mongolian woman stood alone with the building selling the little blue and white sashes you see tied on. For 5 kuai (roughly 60 cents) you buy the sash and circle the building three times then tie it on, mongolian tradition says this is to bring good luck.

As me and my two good friends circled the building and tied our sashes together then onto the building, I notice that there were hundreds upon hundreds of these sashes tied on, and i couldnt help but think of all wishes of good luck and memories made atop this little hill in the middle of nowhere.

It is a memory i will hold onto forever. ]]>

Quick tutorial on color theory:
This photo has a lot of compositional value.
See the recurring use of the same greens and reds?
It is pleasing to the eye and keeps the picture balanced.
In comparison, having just one spot of red in a picture wouldn't add anything, in most cases.
Make sure you are reusing colors in several places ]]>
