To the duck

The Haubenente (German word for crested duck) is a very rare duck breed, that is bred by only 48 breeders in whole Germany.
It is deemed to be a mutation form of the land duck. The principal form might have lived in Germany and Holland.
The duck can be found in different colours and patterns of lines - all created by breeders. Mostly they are white.
Every crested duck has a feather bobble on its head. Underneath the tuft often the whole skull plate is absent. The consequence: brain rupture, derfomations that cause pain.
Recently there is litigation among breeders and animal welfarists.

To the photo

On my trip to Stegaurach near Bamberg - visiting a friend who's working there - I went to a local pond, looking for some nice motives. First of all I was very frustrated, because all the ducks flew to the other waterside. You must know that I've only got a 18-55mm Kit, so I've to get really, really close to something I want to photograph.
Dashed I went on and to my surprise I spotted a duck couple a few steps after this.
They were swimming near to the shore and very curious in what I was doing.
When I had taken my shots I went on. On my way back, as I reached an impasse, I saw the ducks go ashore. I asked myself how close I can get till they escape.
I moved very slowly and made it to 1 metre distance. Then I took this photo.
When I tried to identify the duck via www, I noticed that I had taken a photo of something really rare. Not only the duck itself, but also its colour, as they are mostly white.
Well, a fortunate coincidence that I had the chance to take a photo of them in the wild and not at a breeder.
