And first place goes to the one and only HUMMINGBIRD BAKERY!!! *round of applause*

why? one simple reason - while the others had nice tasting sponges, they didn't taste like chocolate.

this sponge actually did like chocolate.

And altho the icing is killer, its overall taste is the best out of the 4 for me

AND thats that now to work off all the cake I've eaten

while shooting this image a
hummingbird landed on the
top of my head and stayed
there for about 5-10 seconds
after i shot this... the whole time
making hummingbird sounds...
flew off... got about 6-8 inches away
from my face... still chattering for
a few seconds, then vanished...
strange...

Another little bird I found. This was the first one. It's a little naturally mummified hummingbird. I kept visiting him on the place he died, where he took sun and rain bathings for days, until I decided to pick him up. At first I wanted to clean it to have only the bones, but then decided that it looked beautiful like this. I keep him in a little box.

again, my hummingbird made of sugar.

This is where my Sugar Rose came into play.

As per all other submissions today, very little editing.

I made this hummingbird with sugar on a black surface. It was shot outside sometime after 2:00pm, while the sun was still bright.

This is my favourite piece from the day.

This presentation and recipe is straight from Martha Stewart, except, that's not completely true. It isn't from her because I am convinced that she doesn't come up with any of the things she backs. She's just a face for an impossibly impressive crew of people that get little to no recognition.

But those are just my sentiments, of course.

Whoever did come up with this is very creative, and I'm happy they shared their technique!

Hummingbird Cupcakes and related links

I also made some cinnamon sugar walnuts to accompany the cupcakes, but I didn't really measure, so here's an approximated version of what went down.

Cinnamon Sugar Walnuts: 2 handfuls of walnuts; 1/2 c (ish) sugar; Cinnamon, to taste; Water; Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350F.; Put the walnuts, sugar and cinnamon into a glass bowl, and add enough water to make a runny mess of it all. Microwave about 5 minutes, until sugar caramelizes, stirring every minute or so. Pour onto the baking sheet, breaking apart the pieces. Place in oven for 5-6 minutes until thoroughly dried and browned. Just be careful because they burn easily!; Chop further, if desired.

I've got a weird interest in food photography lately. ^.^

This is a Hummingbird Bakery black bottom cupcake, made by my fabulous auntie Louisa (her deviant name is skip2myloulou if you want to check her photos out )
I seriously recommend them to anyone who likes baking, they are DELICIOUS :3 dark chocolate sponge with cheesecake filling baked into them, and cream cheese frosting. MMM.
