Suddenly you hear footsteps approaching the door in front of you. Alright, you are finally going to defeat Feliciano!! You get into a better shooting position, your grip tightening around the trigger of your hand-gun. Slowly the door swings open.

"HA! I FINALY GOT YOU!!" you shout jumping out of your secret hiding spot firing your Nerf gun as fast as you can!

"Vhat ze heck?!?!" a startled Ludwig shouts after opening the door to Feliciano's house and being harshly attacked upon entry. The Nerf darts you fired strike him in the face, one sticking to is forehead another on his cheek and the rest just fell off, because they hit his hair.

Unfortunately, you notice too late that the person behind the door was indeed not Feliciano, but Ludwig (whom represents Germany), one of Feliciano's best friends.

"Curses...Feliciano has evaded my deadly hail od Nerf Darts..." you sigh. "Sorry Ludwig...We're in the middle of an epic battle..." you say turning around spreading your arms out and overlooking your "war zone".

It was messy! During your heated combat with Feliciano, you two had managed to HORRIBLY mess up his house! Couch cushions ( used as shields) were lying discarded on the dining room table, various nick-nacks lying around on the ground because they got in the way of fire (or just hed the unpleasant luck of being the victim off poor aim). And THAT was only the living room.
Ludwig viewed the whole scene with disgust. "Vell, I'm glad it's some sort of training. But, this mess is un acceptable." he says face-palming.

"FELICIANO!! LUDWIG IS HERE!!" You shout into the depths of the house, knowing that wherever he is, Feliciano will hear you.
It takes a moment but Feliciano runs into the living room and ducks behind a potted plant, looking around a moment to make sure It really WAS Ludwig, and not a trap.

"Ve!! So greata to seea you again!" Feliciano says running over to Ludwig and shaking his hand ecstatically

YES! Now is my chance!! I shall win! You think while aiming your Nerf gun at Feliciano, but he spins around quickly shooting you in the chest first.

"No!! I had so much to live for!" You say falling to the ground in slow-motion, lying there sprawled out on the floor face down.

"Nice try though! You almosta had me!" Feliciano says flopping down next to you, lying down. "Veeeeh...I'm tired that was so fun!" he says exhausted "Oh!! We should eat pasta now!" he says catching his second wind and dashing off toward the kitchen.
Ludwig's hand grabs his shoulder before he can make it though.

"First, Ve need to clean up. Look at your house. It's a terrible mess...I honestly vish Alfred had never even introduced you to Nerf Guns." he sighs "Vell, I guess you can clean the kitchen, und after you finish zen make pasta...I'll clean the living room." Ludwig looks over at you, "Oh und (Your Name) you clean Feliciano's room. It might not be from your guy's "war" but it should still be cleaned." Ludwig orders.

"That sounds like a plan! I'll try my best!" Feliciano smiles and gives Ludwig a thumbs up sign. Feliciano often got board of cleaning and gave up, so trying his best often ment Ludwig or you would still have to help him in the end.

"Y-yes Sir" you say standing up and hanging your head. Ugh! Cleaning Feliciano's room will take such a long time! Though he's probably your best friend, he's VERY messy. He NEVER puts anything away, or even in some form of order! You think heading upstairs.

When you reach his room, you push open the door, bracing yourself for the worst. It wasn't as bad as you thought it would be honestly, but still not approvable as clean, by Ludwig's standards.

To start off, you clear off the top of his dresser placing things nicely in drawers or on shelves.
Ugh, now time to pick up all the dirty laundry strewn across his floor...gross...that pasta better be the best pasta I ever eat! You think as you pick up an arm-full of dirty laundry and drop it in the laundry hamper.

On Feliciano's bed all the covers were all twisted up along with the sheets that hung sideways off the bed, his pillow is lying on the ground on top of another blanket. The bed looks like it hasn't been properly made in quite a long time! You smile to yourself pulling the sheets up and tucking them in to the sides of the bed.

"Ok, nearly done" you say to yourself walking over to the other side of the bed to fix the covers. Suddenly your foot catches on something and I fall down. "Owch...what the fruit?!?" You say discovering that the blanket made you fall, you pick it up then realeasing a bunch of small pieces of paper with Feliciano''s handwriting on them, on to the floor.

UGH! MORE TO DEAL WITH. You think yanking the bed spread into correct position, throwing his pillow on top of the bed, then bending down to pick up the papers.

One paper in particular stands out, a pink one with a read heart on it, that's not what caught your eye though, it says "To: (Your Name)" on it. Normally, you wouldn't snoop around, but it WAS addressed to you after all. On the paper you read

WHAT!?!? Is all you could think! You quickly look at all of the other pieces of paper, seeing they are ALL addressed to YOU, with some sort of romantic poem or quote, or simply the words "I love you", you sit there and blush staring down at them.

"Y-you found them...My..ah, L-love letters...for you..." Feliciano quietly says as he enters his room sitting down next to you blushing and not making any eye contact.

You look up from the Love letters and stare at him. "Feliciano...I-I had no idea..." you grab his hand "But, why didn't you give me any of these! They're so sweet..."

"I-I wanted to! But I didn't think they were good enough for you (Your Name)...You deserve better than those..." He says back his amber eyes staring into your (eye colour) ones.

"Well, they are very cute..." you say pausing "But the only better thing than those love poems is...you." You say pulling him into a hug.

"Ve? Really!! Ti amo (Your Name) !" Feliciano says hugging you back with the cutest little smile on his face.

"I love you to Feliciano!" you say giggling with glee! He pulls away from the hug, looking you in the eyes.

"W-we can kiss! I-if you want to..." He says blushing his eyes darting to the left out of his embarrassment.

You lean forward slowly closing your eyes, untill you feel Feliciano's soft lips connect with yours. You two share the most magical kiss for a moment when

*AHEM* Ludwig says poking his head in through Feliciano's door, startling the two of you, and making you end your first kiss. ( :C I'm sorry )
"Sorry for interrupting. I thought you vere just going to tell (Your Name) that the pasta is ready..." Ludwig says awkwardly, leaving to go downstairs and eat.

"Oh! We probably shouldn't keep him waiting, huh?" you say to Feliciano standing up and dusting your pants off.

"Yeah!" he grins "I am pretty hungry, from beating you at Nerf Wars!" he laughs

"Whatever! Hey, let's race then! First one to the dining room table wins!" you say running downstairs as fast as you can

"Hey!! That wasn't fair!" Feliciano stands up and chases after you.

And yes, that pasta was indeed the BEST pasta you have ever eaten. Not because of how it tasted specifically, but just the fact you got to enjoy it with your new boyfriend made it taste a million times better!

Ugh, now time to pick up all the dirty laundry strewn across his floor...gross...that pasta better be the best pasta I ever eat! You think as you pick up an arm-full of dirty laundry and drop it in the laundry hamper.

On Feliciano's bed all the covers were all twisted up along with the sheets that hung sideways off the bed, his pillow is lying on the ground on top of another blanket. The bed looks like it hasn't been properly made in quite a long time! You smile to yourself pulling the sheets up and tucking them in to the sides of the bed.

"Ok, nearly done" you say to yourself walking over to the other side of the bed to fix the covers. Suddenly your foot catches on something and I fall down. "Owch...what the fruit?!?" You say discovering that the blanket made you fall, you pick it up then realeasing a bunch of small pieces of paper with Feliciano''s handwriting on them, on to the floor.

UGH! MORE TO DEAL WITH. You think yanking the bed spread into correct position, throwing his pillow on top of the bed, then bending down to pick up the papers.

One paper in particular stands out, a pink one with a read heart on it, that's not what caught your eye though, it says "To: (Your Name)" on it. Normally, you wouldn't snoop around, but it WAS addressed to you after all. On the paper you read

WHAT!?!? Is all you could think! You quickly look at all of the other pieces of paper, seeing they are ALL addressed to YOU, with some sort of romantic poem or quote, or simply the words "I love you", you sit there and blush staring down at them.

"Y-you found them...My..ah, L-love letters...for you..." Feliciano quietly says as he enters his room sitting down next to you blushing and not making any eye contact.

You look up from the Love letters and stare at him. "Feliciano...I-I had no idea..." you grab his hand "But, why didn't you give me any of these! They're so sweet..."

"I-I wanted to! But I didn't think they were good enough for you (Your Name)...You deserve better than those..." He says back his amber eyes staring into your (eye colour) ones.

"Well, they are very cute..." you say pausing "But the only better thing than those love poems is...you." You say pulling him into a hug.

"Ve? Really!! Ti amo (Your Name) !" Feliciano says hugging you back with the cutest little smile on his face.

"I love you to Feliciano!" you say giggling with glee! He pulls away from the hug, looking you in the eyes.

"W-we can kiss! I-if you want to..." He says blushing his eyes darting to the left out of his embarrassment.

You lean forward slowly closing your eyes, untill you feel Feliciano's soft lips connect with yours. You two share the most magical kiss for a moment when

*AHEM* Ludwig says poking his head in through Feliciano's door, startling the two of you, and making you end your first kiss. ( :C I'm sorry )
"Sorry for interrupting. I thought you vere just going to tell (Your Name) that the pasta is ready..." Ludwig says awkwardly, leaving to go downstairs and eat.

"Oh! We probably shouldn't keep him waiting, huh?" you say to Feliciano standing up and dusting your pants off.

"Yeah!" he grins "I am pretty hungry, from beating you at Nerf Wars!" he laughs

"Whatever! Hey, let's race then! First one to the dining room table wins!" you say running downstairs as fast as you can

"Hey!! That wasn't fair!" Feliciano stands up and chases after you.

And yes, that pasta was indeed the BEST pasta you have ever eaten. Not because of how it tasted specifically, but just the fact you got to enjoy it with your new boyfriend made it taste a million times better!

Utilities are looking for the holy grail: reliable baseload electricity derived from a sustainable, low carbon source and available around the clock, whatever the weather.
Biomass, despite the rapid growth in its use, is still not ticking all of these boxes. It has also recently received bad press from environmental and scientific agencies as they question whether it reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared with fossil fuels.
In November 2012, the UK's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace called on the UK government to cancel plans to subsidise the burning of trees in coal power stations. The RSPB report 'Dirtier Than Coal?' says that generating power from typical conifer trees results in 49 per cent more emissions than burning coal, and calls on the government to withdraw public subsidy for generating from feedstock derived from tree trunks.
Binding climate change targets and government support for low-carbon energy are bringing about widespread use of biomass in electricity. Coal power stations are co-firing biomass, and dedicated biomass facilities are springing up. As the sector develops, so does understanding of the impact of the large-scale use of fuel made from recently living plant material. It is increasingly clear that the diverse forms of biomass come with different life-cycle carbon emissions and varying green credentials.Initial national policies were based on the assumption that biomass energy is carbon neutral. Biomass has been included in energy portfolios as an infinitely renewable energy source like wind and solar, so it has been eligible for the same support. But closer study of the net greenhouse gas benefits of burning biomass shows that a more complex model of carbon accounting is required. This should include factors relating to the type, source and treatment of the biomass, modelling of forest growth, transport of the biomass and timing of emissions and sequestration.

Burning biomass to generate a unit of electricity does release CO2. It initially liberates up to twice as much carbon dioxide as coal and up to four times as much as gas used to generate a similar unit of power. The idea of carbon neutrality arises because replacing the combusted vegetation with new trees will lead to the re-absorption of the CO2. The time it takes for a new plant to absorb the same amount of CO2 released during the harvest, transport and combustion of the felled plant is termed the carbon payback.
Biomass feedstocks
Biomass is available from sources such as:
conventional forestry management: thinning, felling and coppicing of sustainably-managed forests and trees
conventional agricultural crops and crops grown for use in energy generation. These include short-rotation coppice, such as willow and miscanthus (elephant grass), which can be grown on land unsuitable for food crops
biodegradable wastes and residues, including wood processing residues - for example, sawmill residues and parts of trees unsuitable for the wood industry; agricultural waste such as straw and husks; sewage sludge; animal manure; waste wood from construction; and food waste
algae, which is not yet viable on a commercial scale but could be an important source of liquid biofuel and solid biomass in the future

In the UK, biomass electricity generators have been required to report annually on their performance against sustainability criteria for the biomass feedstocks they use. The reporting was intended to develop knowledge ahead of the introduction of European sustainability standards, which have yet to materialise.
The two sustainability criteria are:
a minimum 60-per-cent greenhouse gas lifecycle emission saving for electricity generation, using solid biomass or biogas relative to fossil fuel
restrictions on using materials sourced from land with high biodiversity value or high carbon stock (primary forest, protected areas, peatland and wetlands)
From April 2013, generators are required to meet the sustainability criteria in order to receive support under renewable obligations. The UK government says that further work is underway to include sustainable forest management criteria in future.
Calculating emissions
The RSPB report says that the payback period for electricity generated from using whole conifer trees is 80 years, but other studies come up with lower figures. The difference lies in the assumptions used in making life-cycle assessments.
Establishing the life-cycle emissions of biomass fuel is a complex calculation. It must take into account such factors as: location of the source, location of combustion, the type and derivation of the source material, treatment or preparation, and transport of the material.
If the biomass comes from an energy crop planted specifically to produce biomass fuel, then the calculation may need to incorporate a calculation of the indirect land-use change impact of the biofuel if net carbon loss occurs when forests and grasslands are cleared for food production that has been displaced by biofuel plantations elsewhere.
A 2012 report by the US Southern Environmental Law Centre - using woody biomass for a modelled expansion of power generation in the southeast of the US - found that it will take 35-50 years to provide carbon reduction benefit. Biomass Supply and Carbon Accounting for Southeastern Forests analysed 17 existing and 22 proposed biomass facilities in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Based on current trends in using wood in large power plants and exporting fuel pellets to Europe, biomass energy in the southeast of the US is projected to produce higher levels of atmospheric carbon for 35-50 years, compared with fossil fuels. After that, it will result in significantly lower atmospheric levels as regrowing forests absorb carbon.Biomass from composted waste or agricultural residues is an efficient way of reducing carbon emissions, but removing crop residues such as straw may deplete the soil's carbon stock, with resulting increases in fertiliser and irrigation use, and lower yields. Similarly, over-enthusiastic removal of forest residues and stumps for energy production will negatively affect soil properties and biodiversity.
Transport and combustion
Practical problems associated with the use of biomass feedstocks relate to the high bulk volume, high transport costs and large storage capacities. High moisture content can lead to biological degradation and block in-plant transport systems in freezing temperatures. Variations in moisture content complicate plant operation and process control.
Biomass can be processed or densified by turning it into pellets or briquettes. This reduces the moisture content, the transport costs and storage volume and makes for easier handling. Increased energy density and more homogeneous composition result in better combustion control, which offers higher energy efficiency during combustion. The major disadvantage is the cost of the pelleting process, which increases the price of the end product and adds to its emissions profile.
Wood has been used for heat and light since the dawn of history, making it the oldest and most universal fuel. Industrialisation saw biomass superseded by large-scale use of fossil fuels, but the pendulum has swung. Biomass is undergoing a renaissance as an emerging renewable energy source, the technology surrounding which is capable of generating reliable, flexible baseload electricity.
Sustainable biomass requires sustainable forests. Large-scale generation needs large-scale supplies. The development of commercial biomass operations must lead to increased emphasis on sustainable forest management to produce fuel with a reasonable carbon payback period.
During a life-cycle of around 300 years, unmanaged forests emit almost as much CO2 as they absorb. If carbon that would be released into the atmosphere during the unmanaged phase of decay is put to use in the form of fossil fuel substitute, then a managed forest acts as a carbon sink. Utilities are looking for the holy grail: reliable baseload electricity derived from a sustainable, low carbon source and available around the clock, whatever the weather.
Biomass, despite the rapid growth in its use, is still not ticking all of these boxes. It has also recently received bad press from environmental and scientific agencies as they question whether it reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared with fossil fuels.
In November 2012, the UK's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace called on the UK government to cancel plans to subsidise the burning of trees in coal power stations. The RSPB report 'Dirtier Than Coal?' says that generating power from typical conifer trees results in 49 per cent more emissions than burning coal, and calls on the government to withdraw public subsidy for generating from feedstock derived from tree trunks.
Binding climate change targets and government support for low-carbon energy are bringing about widespread use of biomass in electricity. Coal power stations are co-firing biomass, and dedicated biomass facilities are springing up. As the sector develops, so does understanding of the impact of the large-scale use of fuel made from recently living plant material. It is increasingly clear that the diverse forms of biomass come with different life-cycle carbon emissions and varying green credentials.Initial national policies were based on the assumption that biomass energy is carbon neutral. Biomass has been included in energy portfolios as an infinitely renewable energy source like wind and solar, so it has been eligible for the same support. But closer study of the net greenhouse gas benefits of burning biomass shows that a more complex model of carbon accounting is required. The RSPB report 'Dirtier Than Coal?' says that generating power from typical conifer trees results in 49 per cent more emissions than burning coal, and calls on the government to withdraw public subsidy for generating from feedstock derived from tree trunks.
Binding climate change targets and government support for low-carbon energy are bringing about widespread use of biomass in electricity. Coal power stations are co-firing biomass, and dedicated biomass facilities are springing up. As the sector develops, so does understanding of the impact of the large-scale use of fuel made from recently living plant material. It is increasingly clear that the diverse forms of biomass come with different life-cycle carbon emissions and varying green credentials.Initial national policies were based on the assumption that biomass energy is carbon neutral. Biomass has been included in energy portfolios as an infinitely renewable energy source like wind and solar, so it has been eligible for the same support. But closer study of the net greenhouse gas benefits of burning biomass shows that a more complex model of carbon accounting is required. This should include factors relating to the type, source and treatment of the biomass, modelling of forest growth, transport of the biomass and timing of emissions and sequestration.
